Arizona Cardinals rookie G Hayden Conner not projected to make All-Rookie Team

USA Today30-05-2025

Arizona Cardinals rookie G Hayden Conner not projected to make All-Rookie Team Draft Wire projects the NFL All-Rookie Team on offense. As expected, Cardinals G Hayden Conner isn't among the projections.
The Arizona Cardinals only selected one offensive player in the 2025 NFL with their seven selections. That was sixth-round pick Hayden Conner, a guard out of Texans.
As a sixth-round pick, he is not expected to play much or at all in 2025 and there isn't a guarantee that he will make the roster.
So it should be no surprise that he was not among the players that Draft Wire's Curt Popejoy predicted would make the All-Rookie team.
Who is predicted to make the All-Rookie Team?
Predictions for 2025 NFL All-Rookie Team
QB Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans
RB Kaleb Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers
WR Travis Hunter, Jacksonville Jaguars
WR Tet McMillan, Carolina Panthers
WR Jack Bech, Las Vegas Raiders
TE Mason Taylor, New York Jets
OT Armand Membou, New York Jets
OT Will Campbell, New England Patriots
G Donovan Jackson, Minnesota Vikings
G Grey Zabel, Seattle Seahawks
G Jonah Savaiinaea, Miami Dolphins
Analysis
Johnson over Jeanty is a bold pick and it might be harder than you think for Hunter to make this team after Brian Thomas had the season he had in 2025. So the Jags will need to feed Thomas.
Also Taylor over Tyler Warren, who landed in a perfect spot in Indianapolis is a surprise as well.
If Conner somehow were to end up being one of the best rookies, that would be such a surprise. And it would have meant that one of the starters got hurt and he was a pleasant surprise.

What to watch for in today's NASCAR Cup race at Michigan International Speedway

BROOKLYN, Mich. — High speeds, harried restarts and high-pressure decisions will be on display in today's Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. Today's race is the 15th of the season. Eleven races will remain in the regular season after today. The green flag is scheduled for 2:19 p.m. ET on Prime. Here's a look at what to watch for in today's race: Restarts, restarts, restarts Today's race will mark the third for Christopher Bell with new spotter Matt Philpott, who took over after Stevie Reeves left the team after Bell's All-Star win last month at North Wilkesboro. Let Bell, who starts 25th today, explain what Philpott will face in spotting today's race: 'He's in a for a rude awakening at this race track, let me tell you, because restarts here are probably the most intense restarts that we get all year long,' Bell told NBC Sports. 'Massive draft runs. Lots of lanes to pick where to go. 'He's been doing a lot of studying. He's been doing a great job, too. I think for getting thrown in the middle of the season, he's done everything you could ask for. 'From my side, really, there's been a couple of really tight clears. I had my incident with a teammate Ty (Gibbs) at Charlotte that hindered his race, so that was a bummer, but we worked through that. It's just me understanding his language and knowing his tone of voice, stuff like that. 'I think Adam (Stevens, crew chief) has had a little bit of direction for him, but he's been doing a really good job every week and really taking care of our car and getting us to the end of the races. He's doing a really good job.' As Bell noted, restarts are a key part of the racing at Michigan because of how wide the track is, allowing drivers to use different lanes to get around cars. Of course, it also can create calamity and multi-car crashes. Seven cars were involved in a crash shortly after a restart in last year's race that eliminated Bell, Kyle Larson and Joey Logano. A new winner today? Six of the top 10 starters for today's race have yet to win a race this season. Those are Chase Briscoe (starting first), Kyle Busch (second), Chris Buescher (sixth), Ty Gibbs (eighth), Bubba Wallace (ninth) and Zane Smith (10th). Briscoe is starting on the pole for the third consecutive race. Busch is winless in his last 71 Cup races and finished fourth in this race a year ago. Buescher won here two years ago and finished sixth last year despite being involved in an incident. Gibbs finished third in last year's race. Four of the last five races have seen a driver score their first victory of the season. Those drivers were Ryan Blaney (Nashville), Ross Chastain (Coca-Cola 600), Joey Logano (Texas) and Austin Cindric (Talladega). Wait now or wait later With pit crews able to change four tires quicker than a fueler can fill a car with gas, crew chiefs will be left with the decision of having to make their driver wait on fuel or leave when the tires changed and with less gas. Fuel often plays a key role at this 2-mile track. While restarts will be pivotal, gaining track position with a faster pit stop also can prove key. Watch when teams wait for fuel and when they don't in today's race. Chase Briscoe talks about winning his third consecutive Cup Series pole, this time for the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, and turning his strong Saturday run into success on Sundays.

Four Arizona Cardinals 2024 draft picks with uphill battle make the 53-man roster

Four Arizona Cardinals 2024 draft picks with uphill battle make the 53-man roster Because of new offseason additions, these 2024 draft picks will have a rough time to make the roster in 2025 for the Cardinals. The Arizona Cardinals have a new crop of young players in 2025 and also many notable free agent additions. As a result, it will be tough for some players to make the roster. Of their 2024 draft picks, at least four will have stuff battles for the roster this season. Who are the picks from last season who are far from guaranteed to make the team this year? 2024 Cardinals draft picks with jobs on the line CB Elijah Jones: Drafted in the third round last year, he spent all season on injured reserve. But with the Cardinals drafting another two cornerbacks, he has an uphill battle. Star Thomas, 2024 second-round pick Max Melton, Garrett Williams and 2025 second-round pick Will Johnson are all locks to make the roster. They drafted Denzel Burke in the fifth round. They still have Kei'Trel Clark. Jones, Burke and Clark are battling for what is perhaps one spot on the roster. OL Christian Jones: Jones started his rookie season on IR but got to start at the end of the season because of injuries to Paris Johnson and Jonah Williams. Both starters are back and Kelvin Beachum was re-signed. Will there be room on the roster for Jones? Plus, they signed Josh Fryar out of Ohio State as a rookie free agent, and he was coached by the Cardinals' new O-line coach Justin Frye. WR Tejhaun Palmer: Well, Palmer didn't even make the roster after being drafted in the sixth round. He spent all season on the practice squad. The receiver room is basically the same, so making the final roster has the same hurdles. CB Jaden Davis: Like Palmer, Davis didn't make the team last year and spent all season on the practice squad. He has even an even steeper uphill battle to make the roster than Elijah Jones. LB Zaven Collins named layer the Arizona Cardinals should trade

At this time of year, when we look at NFL rosters, some positions on some teams look like they have players who will need a change of scenery, for one reason or another. For example, the Arizona Cardinals completely retooled their defensive line and their edge defender rooms. That could leave a contributor from a previous season with a lesser role. Advertisement Sometimes, they don't fit as well. Other times, it is a case of a contract. Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport named a player on each roster who should be traded. For the Cardinals, it is outside linebacker Zaven Collins. Back in 2021, the Arizona Cardinals made edge-rusher Zaven Collins the 16th overall pick in the NFL draft. But Collins didn't actually start his professional career as an edge-rusher—the 6'5' 260-pounder spent the first two seasons of his career as an off-ball linebacker before kicking outside in 2023. The results have been disappointing. Collins has shown some flashes, but he just hasn't been able to generate consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Last year's five sacks marked a career high, but with Josh Sweat now in the desert, Baron Browning back after joining the Cardinals in-season last year and BJ Ojulari returning from injury, Collins could find himself toward the back end of the pass-rushing rotation in Arizona. Collins signed a two-year, $14 million extension last fall, so his salary is hardly cost-prohibitive. There could be a team out there that believes it can do a better job of unlocking Collins' talent than the Cardinals have. And a change of scenery could be the best thing for the 26-year-old. As noted, the Cardinals spent big money on Sweat. They gave Browning almost the same deal that Collins has and Ojulari is coming back. Plus, they drafted Jordan Burch in the third round. Will Collins still get playing time? Well, we have to remember that the coaches on Arizona's staff love Collins. And while some might be disappointed in his sack totals, he did lead the team with five last season. And getting sacks aren't his greatest skill. Advertisement However, he is a very good player at all the other things an edge rusher should do. He sets the edge and plays the run extremely well. He moves in coverage well. He can kick inside. He works hard. We can expect him to probably be the base-down starter with Sweat. Would a change of scenery work for him? Perhaps, but he is in the final year of his contract. That will likely happen next offseason. Trading him now without knowing what the other players will be like, especially when the team knows that, in a moment, the best laid plans can be ruined by injuries (Ojulari last season, followed by Dennis Gardeck's torn ACL in the season). The Cardinals might make trades before the season, but don't expect Collins to be one of those guys.
