Al-Azhar Grand Imam Meets Serbia's PM to Discuss Strengthening Academic, Religious Cooperation

Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has met with Dr. Đuro Macut, Prime Minister of Serbia, to discuss ways to enhance academic and religious cooperation in support of Serbia's Muslim community.
He affirmed Al-Azhar's commitment to addressing the needs of Serbian Muslims by training imams and preachers, equipping them to tackle contemporary intellectual and religious challenges. These efforts focus on promoting human fraternity, fostering positive coexistence, facilitating the integration of Muslims into Western societies, clarifying women's rights in Islam, countering extremist ideologies with reason and logic, and establishing an Arabic language center in Serbia to serve the Muslim community and teach the language of the Holy Qur'an.
He also emphasized that peace and mutual understanding should serve as the foundation for coexistence among all people. He further urged for efforts to instill patriotism in youth and to embrace diversity and differences, which he described as a divinely ordained universal principle essential for humanity's continuity.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Serbia expressed his pleasure at meeting His Eminence, highlighting Serbia's dedication to strengthening ties with Islamic countries and institutions.
He also commended the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders for his efforts in promoting dialogue, tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and human fraternity.

Egypt 'platform' for int'l cooperation amid regional, global uncertainty: Al-Mashat
Minister Rania Al-Mashat CAIRO - 19 June 2025 — Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat said that Egypt continues to position itself as a platform for international cooperation and investment, even amid global and regional headwinds. 'This report is being released at a time of rising uncertainty, even more than when it was drafted,' Al-Mashat said during her speech at the launch of the UNCTAD World Investment Report 2025 in Cairo. 'Yet, despite this challenging backdrop, there are silver linings, particularly in Africa, and in Egypt's case, projects such as Ras El-Hekma reflect both direct investment and debt-swaps, which the report examines in detail,' she added. She noted that the report also echoes recent global calls to mobilize more financing for the private sector; a theme aligned with Egypt's national priorities and recent efforts to encourage private-sector engagement in development. Referring to Egypt's recent hosting of the Development Finance to Foster Private Sector-Led Growth & Jobs conference, Al-Mashat said the country serves as an example of how multilateral development partners can work together to support investment and development agendas. She also touched on broader issues raised in the report, including developments in East Asia's green transition and the importance of international experience-sharing through South–South and triangular cooperation. She emphasized the importance of including all countries in global transformations, especially in areas such as digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence. 'The digital divide is no longer just about access to infrastructure, it now includes AI,' she said. 'Without inclusive approaches, we risk leaving countries behind.' Al-Mashat concluded by underscoring Egypt's role as a consistent host of international events focused on investment and development. 'We began this week with strong messages from global institutions on concessional finance and private-sector investment in Egypt, and we're ending it with another important global partner launching a major report from Cairo.'

Türkiye to Host 51st OIC Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting in Istanbul
Mohamed Mandour The 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) will be held in Istanbul on June 21-22, under the chairmanship of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Ahead of the gathering, a Senior Officials Meeting was held in April 27 and 29 at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as part of the preparations for the high-level conference. Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz assumed the chairmanship of the Senior Officials Meeting from the head of the Cameroonian delegation. Yilmaz delivered the opening speech, during the Senior Officials meeting, while OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha also addressed the participants. During the two-day meeting in Jeddah, senior representatives from the 57 member states discussed draft resolutions on various issues, and reviewed reports outlining the OIC's general policies and principles. The draft resolutions adopted by the senior officials will be presented for approval at the June Council session. When Türkiye hosts the CFM meeting in Istanbul, it will assume the one-year rotating chairmanship of the OIC — the second-largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations.
