ENEC, Samsung C&T in deal to develop civil nuclear projects

Zawya19 hours ago
The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company and Samsung C&T Corporation have signed a MoU that will see the duo jointly evaluate and pursue opportunities in civil nuclear energy development and investment internationally.
The agreement brings together ENEC's global nuclear leadership and Samsung C&T's deep engineering and infrastructure expertise to support the deployment of clean, dispatchable electricity worldwide.
The MoU sets the stage for collaboration across several key areas, said ENEC in a statement.
These include potential investment in conventional nuclear projects such as new builds, restarts and brownfield Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) activity in the US; future deployment of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies in the UAE, US, and internationally and evaluation of opportunities in nuclear-powered hydrogen production in South Korea and other markets.
Also, it will pave the way for the investment in US-based nuclear service and equipment companies; and the joint assessment of the development and financing of a nuclear power plant in Romania, it added.
On the strategic collabortation, Managing Director and CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi said: 'Nuclear energy has a pivotal role in delivering clean electricity at scale to meet rapidly growing global demand."
ENEC, he stated, has demonstrated that with the right strategy and partnerships, nuclear projects can be delivered safely on time, and to the highest national and international standards.
"Through this MoU with Samsung C&T, we are expanding our global collaboration efforts to enable new nuclear deployment, investment, and innovation. Together, we will explore projects that deliver real impact for countries seeking energy security, decarbonisation, and long-term economic growth," he stated.
Samsung C&T President and CEO Oh Sechul pointed out that the nuclear power plays a vital role as a reliable baseload source to ensure the stable supply of clean energy.
"By combining the advanced technologies and global networks that both companies have built in the large-scale nuclear and SMR sectors, I look forward to creating synergies through close collaboration," he added.

US Federal Reserve leaves interest rates unchanged, warns about slowing economic growth

31 July 2025 00:27 WASHINGTON (REUTERS)The US Federal Reserve held interest rates steady on Wednesday in a split decision that gave little indication of when borrowing costs might be lowered."The unemployment rate remains low, and labour market conditions remain solid. Inflation remains somewhat elevated," the central bank said in a policy statement released after the Federal Open Market Committee voted 9-2 to keep its benchmark overnight interest rate steady in the 4.25%-4.50% range for the fifth consecutive policy statement did note that economic growth "moderated in the first half of the year," possibly bolstering the case to lower rates at a future meeting should that trend it also said that "uncertainty about the economic outlook remains elevated", with risks to both the Fed's inflation and employment goals, language that has anchored the central bank's reluctance to cut rates until the path of inflation and jobs becomes clearer. This week's meeting marks the first time in more than 30 years that two members of the Fed's seven-person Washington-based Board of Governors voted against a rate decision at the consensus-driven central bank.

The video-sharing app has some 170 million US said the feature will augment the platform's existing integrity measures such as labelling content that cannot be verified and partnering with fact-checking organisations, such as AFP, to assess the accuracy of posts on the cautioned it may take some time for a footnote to become public, as contributors get started and become more familiar with the platforms increasingly view the community-driven model as an alternative to professional fact-checking. Emirates Flight Catering lays foundation stone for Dhs160m laundry facility

Emirates Flight Catering has inaugurated a new laundry facility with an investment of Dhs160 million at Dubai Investment Park, marking a significant expansion for its laundry services unit 'Linen Craft'. The new facility will boost Linen Craft's operational capacity by over 50%, enabling it to serve 40 new clients in the hospitality sector and create 400 direct job opportunities. The new facility is designed for operational flexibility, utilising state-of-the-art automated laundry equipment to enhance efficiency, reduce manual labour dependency, and handle large volumes with consistency and reliability. It also features integrated backup systems in key operational stages to ensure uninterrupted service, even during peak times, alongside energy-efficient systems to minimise environmental impact. This expansion comes in response to projections of over 10,000 new hotel rooms by 2027, the UAE's preparations to host major international events, and ongoing expansions at Dubai Airport. The project is being executed by 'Asia Prime', a UAE-based general contracting and construction management company. The facility will add a daily operational capacity of 150 tonnes to Linen Craft's existing network, which currently handles 280 tonnes daily across four facilities. It includes two large hospitality-dedicated laundry units with a combined capacity of 142 tonnes daily, plus an independent garment processing unit capable of handling over 28,000 items daily. Linen Craft is the largest and most reliable laundry service provider in the UAE, serving over 100 clients across aviation, hospitality, healthcare, and corporate fashion sectors. It employs a specialised team of 1,300 professionals, reinforcing its leadership in the industry.
