Saudi team contest Malaysia Olympiad
RIYADH: A team of Saudi Arabia students are participating in the second International Nuclear Science Olympiad in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from July 30 to Aug. 6. The Kingdom will be represented in the INSO 2025 by four high school students who were selected after completing intensive training, the Saudi Press Agency reported recently. The skills program was organized by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, Ministry of Education, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy. In the previous edition, the Kingdom won one silver and three bronze medals. The Olympiad aims to promote the peaceful and safe use of nuclear technologies, and inspire young people to specialize and innovate in this vital field.

Saudi royal reserve launches eco campaigns
RIYADH: The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority has stepped up efforts to combat environmental challenges through campaigns aimed at reducing harmful behaviors and raising awareness about pollution, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The authority has warned of the cumulative impact of harmful practices, stressing that actions like lighting fires in open areas or dumping waste severely damage soil and vegetation and weaken the ecosystem's ability to regenerate and stay balanced. Pollution begins in the soil, it explained, where chemicals and solid pollutants affect its biological properties and disrupt its role in supporting plant life. The damage extends to groundwater and worsens as pollutants reach the air, releasing toxic gases from burning or decomposing waste. The authority said environmental protection depended on compliance with regulations, adding that cooperation between individuals and relevant entities was key to minimizing damage and ensuring ecosystem stability across the Kingdom. Covering 91,500 sq. km, the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve is the second-largest royal reserve, home to 138 wildlife species and 179 plant species. It is known for its rich ecology, stunning landscapes and heritage sites.

Diriyah Horizon program empowers creative youth
RIYADH: The third Diriyah Horizon youth summer program began on Sunday, organized by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority in partnership with several entities to build youth skills and promote cultural and national values. Collaborators include the King Abdulaziz Center for Cultural Communication, Saudi Space Agency, iLMI Science Discovery and Innovation Center, and Mahd Sports Academy. The program offers hands-on learning experiences to enrich participants and boost educational outcomes, the Saudi Press Agency reported. It reflects the authority's commitment to education and social responsibility by providing a dynamic environment filled with diverse, skill-building activities. Running until Aug. 21, the program features six specialized tracks inspired by Diriyah's heritage and values, including 14 workshops. The leadership track covers debate, volunteerism and public speaking. The heritage track explores archeological excavation and traditional mudbrick construction. The creative production track focuses on photography and filmmaking. The science track includes water systems, soil science, sustainable energy and aircraft design. The space track offers interactive sessions on astronomy, space technology and Diriyah's agricultural seasons, while the sports track features fencing and archery. Held Sunday to Thursday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the program aims to shape a conscious, capable generation rooted in Saudi identity. It fosters pride, cultural awareness, creativity, innovation and real-world problem-solving.
