Emma Raducanu opens up on 'genuine connection' with new doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz and reveals origins of their close friendship - after watching Spanish superstar at Queen's

Emma Raducanu has revealed that her friendship with new mixed doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz began during her dream debut run at Wimbledon in 2021, saying the five-time Grand Slam champion is 'just a really positive light to be around'.
The 22-year-old spoke for the first time here in Eastbourne about the superstar pairing announced last week for the US Open's revamped, $1million mixed doubles event in August.
The two US Open champions - Raducanu won in 2021, Alcaraz a year later - are good friends, growing up together on the tour.
'He's so nice, very happy, amazing values and just a really positive light to be around,' said Raducanu.
'I've known him for years. Wimbledon 2021 was the first time I started getting to know him. He was always playing the day before me, I would see him win and then I would have motivation to win and get myself into that position too.
'It was really cool to go through that tournament together and then I kept going through the US Open, we were staying in touch for the whole time and, yeah, it's nice.
'We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice that we have that from a while ago.'
Alcaraz, also 22, told us at Queen's that Raducanu made him wait before agreeing to team up. Was she really considering turning down the two-time Wimbledon champion?
'Gotta keep them on their toes!' she laughed. 'I had to ask my team if they thought I should play, but when he asked me, I was going to say yes, I just had to go through the formality of asking my coach.'
Raducanu has always valued relationships with those who knew her before her 2021 US Open triumph, and her friendship with the world No2 is an example of such.
'I think, for all of us, we really value those connections we had from when we were young.
'When you become a bit more known or more successful, you find yourself reverting back people you knew from a young age because you're like, that's a real genuine connection.
'It becomes very busy and you have a lot more friends but the ones you've known for a long time mean a lot more to you.'
Alcaraz credited his Queen's Club title, won against Jiri Lehecka in Sunday's final, to a three-day holiday in Ibiza with friends after the French Open. The Spaniard said he needed that time to clear his head, have fun and return feeling fresh and enjoying his tennis.

Can Raducanu relate to that? 'Yeah, minus the Ibiza part! I think in that sense, we are quite similar. We both play our best when we're enjoying it. You see us smile on court and have fun and really lean into to those positive emotions.
'Whenever I have played trying to channel any negativity or that kind of energy, I don't do so well. Other players might be different but for me, I need to be positive.
'When I see him (Alcaraz) play, he's always got a smile on his face and that's, I feel like, why he's able to do such crazy shots, because it's like a coming from a place of curiosity.
'It's amazing to have that on the men's side and take inspiration when I can.'

EastEnders legend forced to host singing competition at Chinese restaurant after admitting she's struggling to find work

AN EASTENDERS legend has been forced to host a singing competition at a Chinese restaurant. This was after the former Celebrity Big Brother housemate previously admitted that she was struggling to find work. 6 6 Cheryl Ferguson, 59, is best known for playing Heather Trott in EastEnders from 2007 until 2012. The media personality also appeared on the tenth series of CBB on Channel 5 back in 2012. However, Cheryl has struggled to find work and was forced to find employment in a Chinese restaurant to make ends meet. She previously flogged tickets to fans to see her perform at the opening of a takeaway eatery back in February. Posting on social media, the former soap actress said she'd sing for diners at the The Dragon Lounge in Blackpool. Now she's back again at the restaurant for another try at entertaining customers. Advertising the upcoming gig on her Instagram profile, she wrote: "BOOK YOUR TABLE NOW FOR FREE ! "Join us for a great night of entertainment and fantastic Chinese food. "If you would like to enter for fun read how to be in with chance of becoming the winner of Cleveleys got talent!" She added: "Only 10 places available and free to enter ( please read rules of entry ) come on you Fylde Coast let's see what you're made of!" She briefly returned to the soap in 2016 for a voiceover cameo after bosses decided to kill off her character. The fan-favourite was murdered by Ben Mitchell in a dramatic altercation in her flat when he hit her with a picture frame. Since her soap departure, the actress has been open in her struggle to find work in the public eye. She previously begged bosses to give her a role in another soap such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale. The former star also begged fans to pile pressure onto execs to give her a part in their productions. Cheryl has made it clear that she's not just open to soaps though, as she explained: "Is this fate telling me that somewhere, sometime soon... producers, casting directors, TV people of the biggest heights - is deciding to cast Cheryl Fergison in some wonderful new period drama?" She captioned the update: "What say you all ? Can you see it ? Can the producers / casting people , TV channels and Film big bosses see it? "Amber management are waiting on your email / call regarding this here client who's ready to partake in their next biggest venture." 6 6 6

Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Huge Bryan Mbeumo second bid MADE, Nkunku ‘TALKS opened', Rashford exit latest

Wreck it Ralf Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has slammed the club's lack of leadership and questioned their transfer policy. Rangnick was vocal in his criticism of United during his stint in charge and called for sweeping changes to be made, particularly in recruitment. The Austria manager has emphasised that argument once again, recommending Man Utd move away from a transfer model of signing experienced players like Casemiro, and towards young players. If I were the owner or sporting director of a club, I would only try to sign and invest in young players. Because no matter how you look at it, it only makes sense. Does it make sense to spend £30, 40, 50 million on a 28 or 30-year-old signing? Not really. Let's calculate it. You sign a 28 or 30-year-old with a five-year contract. You spend £50m more on the transfer fee, an average of £15m per year multiplied by five. That's £65m plus the £50m transfer fee equals £115m, plus the agents' fees. The whole operation costs you around £130m. Ralf RangnickSport

Simone Ashley steals the spotlight in dramatic gold dress for F1: The Movie premiere despite her scenes being cut from Brad Pitt film

Simone Ashley turned out for the European premiere of F1: The Movie on Monday night, despite being cut from the Brad Pitt-fronted film. The British actress, 30, known for her roles in Bridgerton and Sex Education, was dropped from the final version of the movie. Despite the career blow, Simone oozed class as she walked the red carpet in Leicester Square in London. Turning heads in a metallic-like gold ensemble, the star wore a structured silhouette dress with a high neckline and a dramatic peplum at the waist. Simone completed her look with a pair of gold-coloured stilettos and large hoop earrings. F1's director Joseph Kosinski previously defended axing Simone's lines from the movie in a interview and explained the actress will still appear on screen, though she does not have any lines. He told People: 'It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use. There were two or three storylines that ultimately didn't make into the final cut, 'But Simone, she's an incredible talent, incredible actress, incredible singer, and I would love to work with her again.' F1, set to be released on June 27, has been in the works for years with Brad Pitt, 60, as the lead star. His character pitted against rookie and rival Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) as they battle it out at various Grand Prix's around the world. While the reviews for F1: The Movie aren't quite all in yet, social media reactions from several critics began flooding in on X this week. Many praised Brad and Damson's onscreen chemistry, as well the movie's overall look thanks to director Joseph Kosinski, who last worked on Top Gun: Maverick. With some even branding F1 the 'Top Gun for racing fans' - three years after the Tom Cruise aviator movie made an eye-popping $1.496 billion worldwide. Tom, 61, turned out for the European premiere in London as he joined Brad on the red carpet as the movie hunks looked happy to see each other, greeting one another with a hug. Mission Impossible star Tom donned a sleek, modern two-piece suit in a charcoal gray color. The suit featured a tailored fit with a single-breasted jacket. Showing off his buzzcut, Brad was also joined by his girlfriend Ines de Ramon as the couple walked the carpet together. Wearing sunglasses, Brad opened the first buttons of his crisp white shirt to reveal a satin scarf around his neck. Ines stunned in a gorgeous floor-length, halter-neck dress that featured silver sequins and sparkling details throughout, creating a shimmering effect. Commenting on F1: The Movie, iOne Digital's Bernard Smalls said: 'Buckle up #F1TheMovie is an high octane thrill ride. It's one of those films that you go to the movies for. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris are both dynamic. This is top gun for F1 racing fans. Truly a racing movie for a new generation'. While Rotten Tomatoes' Erik David wrote: 'Joseph Kosinski's #F1TheMovie hits the gas and doesn't stop. The races are epic, the sound design, editing, cinematography, performances and music are all top notch'.
