Thailand Welcomes Over 20 Million Tourists, Generates Over 900 Billion Baht In Revenue

BANGKOK, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Despite the Thai-Cambodian border dispute since early July, Thailand has recorded more than 20 million international tourist arrivals so far this year, generating over 900 billion baht (100 baht = RM12.99) in revenue.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikan Watthanachan said that between Jan 1 and Aug 10, 2025, the Kingdom welcomed 20,197,119 international visitors, with their spending amounting to approximately 937.65 billion baht.

'The top five source markets during this period were China (2,835,910 arrivals), Malaysia (2,785,725), India (1,426,080), Russia (1,144,105) and South Korea (950,692),' she said in a statement published on the Royal Thai Government website on Thursday.
She added that the government will continue to promote tourism, improve service quality and safety standards, and create lasting positive impressions to boost confidence among all visitors.
Thailand aims to attract at least 38 million international tourists this year. In 2024, it welcomed more than 35.5 million visitors, generating 1.67 trillion baht in tourism receipts.

"As we continue to engage in diplomatic negotiations and work towards a more favourable trade agreement, the focus remains on ensuring that our farmers and exporters can continue to thrive in the global marketplace, securing the future of our agricultural sector." South Africa is currently negotiating with the Trump administration to either remove the trade tariffs or reach a mutually beneficial trade deal. Mphutumi Damane, an automotive industry expert, told Xinhua that if no agreement is reached between South Africa and the United States, the tariffs could have dire consequences for the country. "The tragedy is that it is the poor workers in these factories who suffer," he added. When asked whether short-term measures could avert any crisis in the automotive sector, Damane said the most urgent thing is to enforce local content regulations to stop fully imported vehicles from competing with locally assembled vehicles. "The trade talks with the United States are just stringing South Africa along and will not solve the problem," Damane added. .

Belarus' GDP grows 1.3 pct in first seven months of 2025
MINSK, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Belarus' gross domestic product (GDP) grew 1.3 percent year on year in the first seven months of 2025 at constant prices, the country's statistical committee said Monday in a press release. According to the committee's first estimate, the GDP in the period amounted to 155.2 billion Belarusian rubles (about 46 billion U.S. dollars) in current prices. The GDP deflator index for January-July 2025 rose 12.4 percent compared with the same period last year, said the committee. Belarus' economy grew 4 percent in 2024, slightly higher than predicted.
