Hilary Swank says she is being offered more acting roles after turning 50

Yahoo22-04-2025
Oscar winner Hilary Swank has said since turning 50 she has 'more offers now than I've ever had'.
The American actress is not alone as a growing list of former Hollywood rising stars including Demi Moore, 62, Cate Blanchett, 55, and Nicole Kidman, 57, are earning box office hits and critical praise for their central roles.
Swank, who recently starred in the 2024 drama film Ordinary Angels and 2023 crime thriller The Good Mother as well as TV series Alaska Daily, has won two Academy Awards for actress in a leading role during her career.
The Women's Health UK cover star told the publication: 'Most people might be like, 'Aren't you worried that you're now 50 and there's not a lot of jobs?'. I'm like, 'No, I have more offers now than I've ever had'. It's an exciting time.'
She also said that Hollywood is 'becoming more inclusive', after being 'patriarchal' when she began her career.
'I was playing roles that were written by men from what a female point of view is, and it wasn't necessarily true … It's not that I don't like being feminine, I just don't like being told how to be feminine,' Swank said.
The actress also said that she would advise her younger self to 'make sure what is happening is what you want'.
She gave birth to her first two children, a son and a daughter, with husband Philip Schneider in 2023 at the age of 48, after reportedly freezing her eggs.
Swank said: 'I would have had kids earlier. I'm not saying I actively waited until 47. But that was a magical time in my life, when it all culminated. It was the right time for a myriad of reasons.'
She also said that she is 'a very different parent than I would've been' as she is 'more patient' in middle age.
Swank said: 'I'm really interested in their brains. I am fascinated about what makes them tick.
'And I have my career that's already established, so I'm not divided. I'm able to really sink in and be present with them and be a hands-on parent.'
Her Oscars were for 1999's Boys Don't Cry, about a transgender teenager who moves to Falls City, Nebraska, and 2004's Million Dollar Baby, chronicling the journey of an amateur boxer who wants to turn professional.
She is also known for drama Freedom Writers, romantic drama P.S. I Love You, Amelia Earhart biopic film Amelia and thriller The Hunt.

Ariana DeBose mourns death of her mom at 57: 'My favorite person'

Ariana DeBose is in mourning after the loss of her mom and "best friend." The Oscar-winning "West Side Story" star, 34, shared in a touching Instagram post on Aug. 19 that her mother, Gina Michelle DeBose, has died at age 57 after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer. "She was my favorite person, my biggest fan and toughest critic," DeBose said. "My best friend. She was my date to every important moment in my professional and personal life — and I wouldn't have it any other way. It had always been the two of us for as long as I can remember. She fought like hell to give me a good life, a good education and every opportunity in the world. I wouldn't be where I am without her." DeBose grew up in North Carolina, and her mother, a social studies teacher, raised her as a single parent. "Because it was just the two of us, we kind of raised each other," the "Hamilton" alum told Tamron Hall in 2023. In a 2016 interview with The Great Discontent, DeBose shared that she and her mom "lived with my grandmother for a portion of my youth," and her mother and grandmother helped her get into dance. "It was financially challenging because, at that point, it was just me and my mom," she said. "She was starting out in her professional career, so it was tough, but she took me to Dance Theater of New Bern." In her Instagram tribute, DeBose noted her mother's "life's purpose, aside from being my mom, was educating young people," and she had almost 30 years of experience as a public school teacher. A post shared by Ariana DeBose (@arianadebose) "My greatest and most proud achievement will always be to have made her proud," she added. "I love you mommy. Now travel amongst the seas, the winds and the angels as I know you always loved to do." DeBose also said that she "couldn't be more proud of her and how she fought this insidious disease" for three years. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 20,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the United States in 2025. Ariana DeBose talks 'House of Spoils' and why she's using her platform to get out the vote When DeBose won the Oscar for best supporting actress in 2022 for "West Side Story," she shared a hug with her mom, who joined her at the ceremony. DeBose also thanked her mom in her acceptance speech, saying, "I love you with my whole heart, and this is as much yours as it is mine." Ariana DeBose talks Disney's 'Wish,' being a 'big softie' and her Oscar's newest neighbor DeBose's mother visited the set of "West Side Story" during filming and met director Steven Spielberg, the actress told People. "Watching Gina become speechless was amazing," she told the outlet. Speaking with USA TODAY in 2020, DeBose also opened up about getting support from her mom after coming out as queer at age 11. "I was like, 'Mom, I think I could like boys and girls,'" DeBose recalled. "'I just really like humans.' And she said, 'OK. Cool.' That was it. And I realized how lucky I am to have had that experience, because that is not the norm."

Maker's Mark Hosts Stunning Chihuly Exhibition of Towering Glass

Summary Last week, I got on a plane and flew to Louisville then hopped in a car to Bardstown, Kentucky. My destination wasMaker's Mark, where glass artist Dale Chihuly has an exhibition running through December withtours available here. Chihuly's glass installations amplified the place, mounted across the brand's Star Hill Farm. In the main cellar, a massive chandelier of twisted glass hung above rows of barrels. The work was a sharp, powerful piece and though its colorful forms contrasted with the cellar's pared-down atmosphere, the artist picked a commanding spot for the work to really shine. Chihuly's work, which bends fire and sand into glass forms that look alive, sat inside a property focused on renewal. The art underscored the distillery's larger effort to show how whiskey-making can support the environment. Maker's Mark is investing heavily in regenerative farming across Star Hill Farm, working to restore soil health and biodiversity. It's not just a general effort. On a short tour,Amanda Humphrey, the StarHill Farm Advocacy & Experience Manager, showed us the land and eco-friendly processes. She pointed out their active involvement in American white oak conservation through a partnership with the University of Kentucky. The distillery has established the world's largest repository of American white oak at Star Hill Farm to protect and study a species crucial for Kentucky bourbon. At some point in the trip we got to experience the Maker's Mark 'Summer of Sours' program. They had just launched an experience made in collaboration with the hosting shop Big Night. The idea was to reframe the whiskey sour as a summer staple by providing a blueprint for new forms of hosting with styled cocktail recipes and curated glassware. Driving out of Starhill, it was clear that Maker's Mark is positioning itself as more than a distillery. The Chihuly installations were striking on their own, but together with the farm's regenerative push and the program, they showed a brand trying to expand how people experience bourbon in contemporary culture.

Madison Beer's Boyfriend & Dating History

Everything happens for a reason. Madison Beer is a certified lover girl. She even said so herself. The singer has had pretty interesting dating history, and some rumors are swirling that she's with someone pretty new. As for her relationship tactics, Beer revealed to Cosmopolitan that she has her heart open for her special somebody. 'I love people. I meet someone, I love them,' she explained. 'I'm like, 'Okay, I'm never letting you go. You'll be with me forever until you hurt me.' That's the deal. I think also because I have such a weird life and never feel safe and comfortable with someone, when I cross that line of 'you're my boyfriend,' it feels really big.' { pmcCnx({ settings: { plugins: { pmcAtlasMG: { iabPlcmt: 2, }, pmcCnx: { singleAutoPlay: 'auto' } } }, playerId: 'bff268d2-093d-4084-a5b8-67255071d950', mediaId: '4b6ac050-93a9-478e-bbc6-99745f56d980', }).render('connatix_player_4b6ac050-93a9-478e-bbc6-99745f56d980_1'); }); And for her type? She doesn't really confine herself to a specific kind of person. 'I joke that I'm a sapiosexual, because honestly, make me laugh and we're good. Truthfully. Sometimes also there's just a…thing.' The 'Reckless' musician continued, 'I love all the attention in the world, which sometimes means I shoot myself in the foot because obviously no one can give me that all the time. But I'm just a lover girl. I'm sure my boyfriend would have a different answer.' Who is Madison Beer dating? Here's a list of everyone Madison Beer has dated, including her rumored new man. Rumored: Justin Herbert (2025) Madison Beer is rumored to be dating San Diego Chargers star quarterback Justin Herbert. The singer was seen with the football player on the set of her new music video. The singer was snapped (via The New York Post) introducing members of the crew to Herbert. However, no parties have commented about their relationship. Nick Austin (2021 – 2025?) Madison Beer was in a relationship with Hype House member Nick Austin. The two started dating in 2021, and they frequently appeared in each other's TikTok videos, but have kept pretty quiet about their relationship. In 2023, the 'Make You Mine' singer fawned over feeling 'safe' with her boyfriend in an interview with InStyle.'I'm super happy within my relationship, and I feel really safe, and I feel like I'm with someone I consider my best friend, which is very important,' she said. 'In the past, I haven't really spent 'friend time' with my boyfriend, whereas now, I kind of do. So, it feels good.' The two were subject of breakup rumors after the two appeared to be unfollowing each other in October 2024. However, in April 2025, she talked about how she and her boyfriend were prepping for her new music era together, which could be career-altering. 'No, neither of us are equipped for whatever the f—k might come,' she told Cosmpolitan in April 2025. 'But it's kind of exciting to be like, 'We're going to figure all this out, hopefully together.' Yes, I know he's going to support me, but do I think that he knows or I know or my parents know or my brother knows how we're going to feel or go through it if and when that does happen?' The two haven't addressed breakup rumors after the singer was spotted with Justin Herbert. Zack Bia (2018 – 2019) Madison Beer dated DJ and club promoter Zack Bia from 2018 to 2019. News broke of their split after Beer posted a series of cryptic tweets: 'Before you diagnose yourself with depression and anxiety make sure you're not just surrounded by a—— and people who don't care about you,' she posted on March 15. One day later, she added, 'oof i rlly owe myself the biggest apology for puttin up w s— i never deserved.' 'You be patient. that's really all. just be patient with yourself,' she continued. Her hit song 'Selfish' is believed to be about their relationship. Bia opened up to GQ about where he stands with Beer today. 'There's so much love there,' he said. 'She's someone who's so instrumental in my life and I still treat as family. Like, she and my mom are still cool.' Brooklyn Beckham (2017) Brooklyn Meckham and Madison Beer had a brief fling in 2017 after they were seen kissing while shopping. Madison responded to the romance rumors in an interview on AOL Build Series that month. 'He's great, he's a cutie, he's one of my best friends,' she said at the time. The couple broke up a month later after Brooklyn moved to New York City to attend college at Parsons School of Design. Jack Gilinsky (2015 – 2017) Madison Beer dated Vine star Jack Gilinsky from 2015 to 2017. They were introduced by their mutual friend Nash Grier. Beer admitted that she stayed with Gilinsky through abuse allegations 'Don't make the same mistakes I did; your safety is never worth it. No matter what, no one deserves to be treated that way,' she wrote in a message to fans, that's now been deleted. 'Many of you [have been] asking me, 'Why would you stay with him if it happened last year!' ' Beer continued. 'My theory was, and as horrible as this is, is that if I left him, he'd do it to the next girl. I tried to fix him.'
