BHUs employees protest against privatisation
Just like in the rest of Punjab, the protest against the privatisation policy of the Punjab government continues in Chakwal and Talagang.
On the first day of the protest, on Saturday, a large number of Basic Health Units (BHUs) employees gathered in front of the office of the Chakwal Health Department CEO and raised slogans. Later, in the second phase of the protest, they recorded a statement outside the office of the Chakwal Deputy Commissioner.
Speaking to media representatives, the employees expressed their frustration, stating that the state is like a mother, but that this mother is trying to take away their livelihood. They claimed that they had worked in these centres for 30 years, places that were once shelters for drug addicts and stray animals. "While Punjab is facing privatisation and our jobs are being taken away, employees in the other three provinces are even receiving advance salaries for Eid," they said.
During the protest, female workers were seen crying and pleading with the Chief Minister of Punjab to save them from unemployment. They emphasised that they were not demanding pensions, additional benefits, or salary increments, but only wanted to keep their jobs.
They further suggested that if the government wants to establish Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics, it should do so in remote areas where BHU services are unavailable. They pointed out that many villages in Chakwal lack health facilities and the government should set up clinics in those areas to facilitate the public.

Thousands of people visit hospitals during & after Eid holidays
LAHORE: Thousands of people with complaints of food-poisoning and abdominal pain brought to different city hospitals during and after the Eid days. As per reports, around 2,500 people were brought to Jinnah Hospital, about 2000 to Mayo Hospital, around 1500 to Services Hospital, about 1000 to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and about 3000 to LGH with complaints of stomach pain, heartburn, stomach irritation and high blood pressure. Most of the patients were discharged after providing medical treatment while a few who were critical were admitted to the hospitals. A number of cases of gastroenteritis were also reported at Lahore division's other health facilities, including Government Shahdara Hospital, Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital and Government Mozang Hospital. The emergency wards of the city's major hospitals are witnessing increased number of gastroenteritis patients. Health experts advised the people to drink clean water, eat healthy food and avoid going outdoors during the ongoing hot season. Sources in the Punjab Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Department stated that the number of patients of gastrointestinal disease in the city had surged during the last four days. A similar situation was reported from several other cities of Punjab, including Multan, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Rawalpindi, the sources added. It may be added that there is tradition that on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, families and friends hold gatherings, enjoy eating meat of the sacrificed animals and other foods, ignoring precautionary measures and falling ill as a result of overeating. Every year, emergency situation erupts at hospitals and thousands of people are admitted with gastrointestinal issues. As per the direction of CM Punjab, as many as 10,033 patients were provided with the free medical facilities in the General Hospital Emergency Department without any interruption and without any slip fees during the four holidays of Eid-ul-Azha. While 2,047 X-rays, 621 ultrasounds and 513 CT scans of patients were performed. Amiruddin Medical College Principal Prof Dr Muhammad Farooq Afzal and MS LGH Dr Faryad Hussain said that under the guidance of Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education department Khawaja Salman Rafique, health professionals are alert to provide quality medical facilities to patients and they will continue to fulfil their professional responsibilities in the future as well. MS Dr Faryad Hussain stated that free dialysis was done for patients suffering from kidney diseases treatment were also ongoing in the women and children departments. Prof Farooq Afzal urged the doctors to continue to raise awareness among the citizens about prevention of infectious diseases along with treatment so that the public can protect themselves by taking precautionary measures. Eid-ul-Azha: CM appreciates district admin, ‘Suthra' Punjab workers
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her message on the social media platform X, lauded that the district administration especially workers of 'Suthra' Punjab have vigorously performed their duties with dedication and integrity during Eid-ul-Azha across Punjab. She highlighted, 'Animal waste was collected, streets, adjacent areas, 'mohallas' were cleaned and roads were washed with phenyl and rose water in Punjab.' The Chief Minister commended the district administration and 'Suthra' Punjab workers for carrying out historic cleanliness operation on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha. Moreover, the CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on the eve of 'World Brain Tumour Day' said that brain tumour is a silent yet devastating disease. She said, 'It is far more than a physical affliction; it is a profound challenge for both the patient and the medical consultant. Brain tumour not only becomes a difficult trial for the patients but for their families as well. Timely diagnosis and treatment of brain tumour is the key to a safer and healthier life.' She highlighted, 'Raising public awareness about such silent diseases is the real strength and success. Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital will serve as a beacon of hope for cancer and tumour patients. Eid holidays: Three eateries sealed, Rs3.532m fines imposed on 210 restaurants
LAHORE: During Eid-ul-Azha holidays, the Food Authority teams remained in action and inspected 1,131 fast food points and restaurants. Three restaurants were sealed, and fines amounting to over Rs 3.532 million were imposed on 210 restaurants. The DG Food Authority stated that 340 liters of substandard oil and over 200 kg of expired or banned ingredients and soft drinks were destroyed. During inspections, 775 food points were issued corrective notices. Poor sanitation, infestation of cockroaches and flies, foul-smelling environments, and absence of mandatory records were commonly found. Stagnant dirty water, broken flooring, and foul-smelling, fungus-covered freezers were also observed storing food items. The DG emphasized that food business operators must comply with laws to ensure the provision of nutritious food. 'There is no place for fraudsters in Punjab; such businesses will be uprooted,' he reiterated. Citizens are urged to report any adulteration or fraudulent activity around them by calling 1223.
