PCB unfolds domestic cricket calendar for 2025-26 season
The domestic season will commence on 15th August with the 12-team Hanif Mohammad Trophy (non-first-class) being staged in Karachi, Multan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. The teams are divided into two pools, with 31 matches scheduled in the four-day tournament. The top two sides will qualify for this season's premier first-class competition – Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
The 12 regional sides participating in the Hanif Mohammad Trophy are the same teams that competed in last season's Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Based on last season's standings, these are: Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, FATA, Lahore Region Blues, Hyderabad, Karachi Region Blues, Karachi Region Whites, Multan, Quetta, DM Jamali, AJK and Larkana.
The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will feature Lahore Region Whites, Sialkot, Peshawar, Islamabad, Abbottabad, Bahawalpur and the two qualifying teams. The tournament is set to begin on 22nd September and will comprise 29 matches in a single-league format, with the final scheduled from 3rd to 7th November. Matches will be held at four venues across Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with further details to be announced in due course.
To further enhance competitiveness, a qualifying stage has also been introduced for the National T20. 10 teams – Abbottabad, Multan, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, FATA, Larkana, DM Jamali, and AJK will compete in the qualifier round. These teams will be divided into two pools, with the top two sides progressing to the National T20 (Super 10) tournament, which will be held in Faisalabad from 1st to 12th March.
The eight teams automatically qualified for the Super 10 stage are: Karachi Region Whites, Lahore Region Whites, Peshawar, Karachi Region Blues, Sialkot, Islamabad and Faisalabad.
Four departmental tournaments – President's Trophy (four-day, first-class), President's Cup (One-Day), President's Trophy Grade II and President's Trophy Grade III will also feature in this domestic season.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed Syed said, 'We are pleased to unveil a domestic structure that places merit, opportunity and competitiveness at its core. The 2025-26 season has been designed to provide a clear pathway for teams and players to progress based on performance, not reputation.'
He said, 'Introducing a qualifier for both the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the National T20 ensures that every match in our domestic calendar carries significant weight. This not only raises the standard of competition but also fosters a high-performance culture across all formats. The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy will now feature the most in-form and deserving teams, while the Hanif Mohammad Trophy gives 12 regions a meaningful chance to stake their claim. Similarly, the Super 10 format of the National T20 is a step towards creating more high-intensity, quality cricket.'
He also said, 'Our aim is to reward performance and create a vibrant environment where players and teams are constantly challenged. This structure lays the foundation for a long-term growth and helps us prepare future stars for the demands of international cricket.'
Director – Domestic Cricket Operations Abdullah Khurram Niazi said, 'The 2025-26 domestic season reflects our commitment to building a competitive and inclusive structure that nurtures talent at every level, from grassroots to senior cricket. By aligning our tournaments across age-group and senior formats, we are creating a clear development pathway for young cricketers.'

The winners received cash prizes of Rs75,000, Rs50,000, and Rs25,000 respectively, along with trophies to honour their achievement. Besides the top three, everyone was a winner. All participants were also awarded cash prizes and commemorative trophies, adding to the festive atmosphere. The closing ceremony was held at Frere Hall, where Parliamentary Secretary Saima Agha served as the chief guest and distributed the prizes. Additional Secretary for Sports, Asad Ishaq, along with other officials, also attended the event. The donkey cart race, blending tradition with celebration, attracted attention from locals and passersby, turning the streets into a lively track of cheers and excitement.

CDA, MCI host cycling competition
ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) jointly organized a cycling competition in the Blue Area on Sunday to encourage fitness, environmental sustainability, and greener transport. The event, held on the directions of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, drew professional cyclists, amateur riders, and citizens of all ages. Speaking as the chief guest, Randhawa underscored cycling's role in building a 'healthy, sustainable, and modern' capital city. 'Cycling is not just a sport; it is a way of life that promotes fitness, protects the environment, and fosters community spirit,' he said. 'By encouraging cycling, we are investing in the health of our citizens and the sustainability of Islamabad.' Randhawa also highlighted ongoing CDA initiatives to expand dedicated cycling tracks, improve road safety for riders, and integrate cycling infrastructure into urban planning. He said these efforts were part of a broader vision to make Islamabad a model city for sustainable urban mobility, reducing traffic congestion and pollution while promoting non-motorized transport. The competition concluded with prize and certificate distribution to winners and participants. Randhawa commended CDA and MCI teams, volunteers, and local cycling clubs for their efforts, noting that the event was part of a series of activities leading up to Marka-e-Haq and the country's 14th August Independence Day celebrations. Azan and Shamyl lead run tables
Pakistan's new cricket stars Azan Awais and Shamyl Hussain lead the runs table in the recently-concluded Shaheen's tour of England. Shaheens, headed by Pakistan's national test- team vice captain Saud Shakeel, won the ODI series 2/1 while the two three-day matches were resultless. The series played in Kent, Hove and Canterbury grounds, saw the young blood dominate the proceedings through their consistency and wining partnerships. Azan played 7 innings and toped the run table with a tally of 276 while Shamyl, who was benched in the first two matches, scored 193 in 5 innings. Both average around 39 per innings. Their partnership of over one hundred in the crucial third one day decided the fate of the ODI contest that hung in balance. The two laid the foundation of the biggest run-chase of the series set at 261. Three-day matches were weather-affected and produced some quality batting from Shaheens including two centuries by Rohail Nazir and Ali Zaryab respectively while Amir Hamza, Obaid Shah, Musa Khan and Mehran Mumtaz did well with the ball. The overall batting honours again were shared by Azan and Shamyl among the Shaheen batters whose total runs tallies surpassed other performers. As per PCB website, Shamyl top-scored for his team in the three matches combined runs. In the list of top scorers from both sides, he is number 2 behind England's Luc Benkenstein, whose series tally was 197. Ali Zaryab (166), Haider Ali (159), Rohail Nazir (136) Saud Shakeel (128) and Muhammad Suleman were the other main run getters. Omair Bin Yousuf (77) Maaz Sadaqat (61) were the other batters with some the two, Shamyl's strike rate was 74 while Azan's was 53, befitting the battling styles of both, the former being a fluent stroke player while the latter a patient accumulator. The two also lead last year's first class run tables with Azan the highest run getter in Quaid-i-Azam Trophy's with 844 runs helping his region, Sialkot to win the title. Shamyl Hussain was the second highest run maker in the President's Trophy amassed 727, including the tournament's fastest double hundred and guided his department, PTV, to clinch the trophy. The team is returning home today.
