WNBA-leading Lynx acquire DiJonai Carrington from Wings for 2 players and a draft pick

WNBA-leading Minnesota acquired DiJonai Carrington in a trade Sunday from the Dallas Wings for Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson and the Lynx's second-round pick in 2027.
Carrington averaged 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 20 games for the Wings, who acquired her from Connecticut in February as part of a four-team trade. This is the fifth WNBA season for the 5-foot-11 guard/forward.
Miller, the No. 2 overall pick by the Lynx in the draft two years ago, is averaging 4.1 points a game this season. Since scoring 12.1 points a game as a rookie in 2023, the 6-3 forward from Maryland has averaged only 3.5 points in 47 games the past two seasons.
Samuelson hasn't played since June 29 because of surgery on her left foot after playing only 16 games for the Lynx, who got the 6-foot guard from Washington in April. She played four games for Dallas in 2019.
The Wings waived 6-7 center Teaira McCowan, a seven-year WNBA veteran, to make room on the roster for the additions. McCowan averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 17 games this season.
Minnesota is 24-5 this season. The Wings, with No. 1 overall draft pick Paige Bueckers, have lost eight of their last 10 games and are 8-21.

At least 1 person who threw sex toy onto WNBA floor arrested

Justice has been served to at least one person who hurled a sex toy onto the court during a WNBA game. The WNBA said on Saturday that the fan who threw a neon green dildo onto the court during a game between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries on July 29 has been arrested. Anyone else caught throwing objects onto the court, the league said, will be ejected from the arena and face a minimum one-year ban. "The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans," the league said in a statement. "In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities." The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter on Tuesday at the Gateway Center Arena. There was a stoppage of play while an official kicked the errant dildo off the court, and it was removed by a police officer. On Friday, a copycat crime occurred when a fan threw another sex toy — which, from a distance, appeared to be the same make and model as the first — under the basket during Friday's game between the Valkyries and the Chicago Sky. "It's super disrespectful. I don't really get the point of it," Sky center Elizabeth Williams said after Friday's game. "It's really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up." Other WNBA players have also chimed in on social media, including the Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham and New York Liberty forward Isabelle Harrison. Cunningham wrote on Friday: "Stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us." Harrison added on X: "ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??! Please do better. It's not funny. never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous."

The Fever have won four in a row, the best current win streak in the WNBA. Caitlin Clark, being sidelined by injury, has barely been a blip on the radar for the team as Kelsey Mitchell has stepped up. Midseason acquisition Aari McDonald has been a revelation at point guard, setting the Fever up to potentially be a title contender if Clark can come back near 100 percent. The Storm are 5-5 over their past 10 games. While the starting lineup is among the league's best with Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike, Ezi Magbegor, Gabby Williams, and Erica Wheeler, depth concerns have really hurt the team. In Friday's 108-106 double-overtime loss to the Sparks, only one starter played fewer than 39 minutes. Former Iowa football running back accepts new coaching position

When players go through the Iowa football system, they become so much more knowledgeable of the game and can think football at a higher level than others. That's a big reason why so many Hawkeyes find their way into the NFL and usually stick around longer than some may expect. But for those who weren't able to make it to the league, that knowledge doesn't evaporate. Some players use it to be involved with the game in a different aspect: coaching. And this former Iowa football running back is the next in a great line of Hawkeyes turned into coaches. Bemidji State University football announced on X that it had hired former Hawkeye running back Ivory Kelly-Martin to be its running backs coach for the 2025 season. Bemidji State is a Division II school located in Bemidji, Minnesota. They compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Kelly-Martin played at Iowa from 2017-2021, appearing in 44 games. He had 181 carries for 804 yards and six rushing touchdowns in those 44 games. He spent a lot of time backing up Tyler Goodson and providing valuable snaps. While he wasn't a star at Iowa, Kelly-Martin was well respected by his teammates and coaching staff and was a true steward of the game. That was evident with his inclusion on the 2021 Players Council. Before accepting this position with Bemidji State, Kelly-Martin was a graduate assistant running backs coach at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. With his Master's in Business Administration all finished up, he can now start his coaching career with the Bemidji State Beavers. Hawkeye fans wish Kelly-Martin the best of luck as the next chapter of his life begins.
