In his remarks, Dr. Duck-Ho Lim, former president of HYU, commended the far-reaching contributions of the Sharjah ruler across the globe, expressing hope for continued cooperation between the two countries. Dr. Jae-Ok Park, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, presented a detailed account of the ruler's achievements, which have helped position Sharjah as the cultural capital of the Arab world. He underlined His Highness's various publications and initiatives aimed at enriching the lives of his people. Founded in 1939, HYU is one of South Korea's most esteemed institutions, particularly known for its engineering programmes. Its alumni have made significant contributions to the country's development and technological innovations, both nationally and internationally. The honorary doctorate is one of several international recognitions bestowed upon His Highness in recognition of his leadership in education, culture, and public service.

3 June 2025 11:31 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)TRENDS Research & Advisory held discussions with the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan to explore opportunities for collaboration in research, science, and knowledge exchange in areas of mutual interest, particularly the humanities, the development of fundamental and applied research, and joint efforts to launch specialised training meeting took place on the sidelines of TRENDS' participation in the International Conference on Glaciers' Preservation 2025, held in TRENDS were Abdulaziz Al-Shehhi, Senior Researcher and Deputy Head of the Research Sector, and Hamad Al-Hosani, Senior Researcher and Head of the Political Islam Studies Section. They met with the President of the Academy and a number of academic leaders and experts at the Academy's headquarters in Dushanbe, discussions covered ways to activate cooperation in scientific research, academic publishing, exchange of expertise, and joint training, in addition to developing both foundational and applied research projects. The two sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding to advance the implementation of several joint research initiatives. He also stressed the importance of scientific research in supporting digital transformation and fostering praised TRENDS' efforts in advancing research and disseminating knowledge, noting the vast potential for collaboration, particularly in the fields of humanities and social sciences. ISESCO enhances knowledge partnerships for sustainable development
More knowledge-based world The Office is keen to implement a set of qualitative programmes and initiatives that contribute to translating ISESCO's vision for a more knowledge-based world. This is achieved by enhancing communication with academic and research institutions, as well as cultural and development institutions within and outside the United Arab Emirates, with a view to cooperation among the countries of the Islamic world and building sustainable bridges of cultural and scientific integration. This builds on the successful projects implemented in previous periods that have contributed to supporting the education system, in addition to actively contributing to organizing academic events and meetings that enhance opportunities for intellectual convergence and open broader avenues for cooperation between relevant institutions. Supporting the knowledge economy In this context, the ISESCO Regional Office in Sharjah is working to expand the scope of its joint programmes to include the development of initiatives in the fields of science, technology, and artificial intelligence. This is in line with global trends in supporting the knowledge economy and enhancing the position of scientific institutions in the Islamic world as a soft power contributing to building the future. Nurturing entrepreneurial environment Focusing on continuing to launch innovative educational and cultural projects aimed at supporting local skills and competencies and nurturing the entrepreneurial environment is also being emphasised. These events provide effective platforms for dialogue and cooperation and foster a spirit of scientific solidarity among Islamic societies, in line with the Emirate of Sharjah's vision as a regional and international hub for knowledge, culture, and innovation. His Excellency Salem Omar Salem, Director of the ISESCO Regional Office in Sharjah, emphasised that the Office is keen to expand partnerships and cooperation with national, regional, and international institutions to support education and scientific research, empower youth, and enhance the Islamic world's contribution to building a knowledge society. Achieving the sustainable development goals Salem explained that the focus in the next phase will be on continuing to support projects that have positive impacts on societies and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through pioneering initiatives in the fields of innovation, training, and cultural and educational empowerment, particularly in various fields.
