Another Coronation Street character left to die in violent attack

Metro25-05-2025

Coronation Street fans are already reeling from an explosion of violence that has seen Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) violently attacking police officer Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), leaving him in a critical condition. But that isn't the end of the violence in this storyline, as there are further twists to come.
Mick, who had previously been in a fight with Gary Windass (Mikey North) and left him battered and bruised, went on a violent rampage when he discovered the past history between his wife Lou (Farrel Hegarty) and their old friend Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).
A flashback episode had revealed that, while Mick was in prison for a crime committed along with Kit who escaped punishment, Kit and Lou became close. So close, in fact, that it was recently revealed that Mick and Lou's son Brody (Ryan Mulvey) is in fact Kit's son.
Unfortunately, as things started to turn nasty with Mick, Craig happened to be shadowing Kit as part of his CID placement. Wanting to impress the older officer, Craig went to investigate a disturbance and pulled over Mick's van.
A raging Mick grabbed a baseball bat and furiously attacked Craig, leaving him with horrific injuries.
With Mick still at large, he continues to target Kit, trying to use his girlfriend Sarah (Tina O'Brien) and mum Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) as bait to lure the police officer to him.
Mick is eventually arrested and he calls Brody from prison, trying to assure him that he's an innocent victim of a police stitch-up – and by 'police' he means Kit. More Trending
When Kit tries to convince Brody that his dad is a violent man, Brody is enraged and charges at him, smashing him against a wall.

It's clear that, even with Mick behind bars, the feud between him and Kit is still ongoing, and this becomes crystal clear later when we see Mick lying on the floor of his cell having suffered a brutal beating.
When Lou visits the prison she's shocked to see the injuries he's sustained. Mick tells her he's convinced that the attack was organised by Kit, and he knows that if he doesn't plead guilty to the charges, the next beating will be much worse.

Emmerdale star teases Coronation Street crossover twist after 'discussions'

Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick has been chatting with her Coronation Street pal Vicky Myers about the looming ITV soap crossover, amid fans wanting their characters to feature There could be an epic Vanessa Woodfield and Lisa Swain scene on the way, if Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans have their way. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the British Soap Awards, Vanessa star Michelle Hardwick confessed she'd had discussions with her pal and Corrie star Vicky Myers. Ever since fans learned of the shocking crossover between the two soaps, set to air early next year, they've been calling for a number of characters to be involved. ‌ One such twist hoped for by viewers would see Corrie detective Lisa meet with Emmerdale vet Vanessa. Michelle and Vicky have seen all the comments about their characters meeting, and they are so on board. ‌ They too would love to be involved and would love to have a scene in the crossover where their characters meet, with Michelle telling us they'd been discussing it. She teased to us: "It's so exciting, I think everyone is hoping for a Vanessa and DS Swain crossover aren't they. "Me and Vicky have been talking about it. It would be hilarious." With fans also calling for Vanessa's ex Charity Dingle and Lisa's partner Carla Connor to feature in a scene together, two soap icons, Michelle seemed keen for this too. She responded: "Yes! Those two and me and Vicky!" Michelle's character Vanessa features in heavy scenes this week and going forward, with her brother-in-law Nate Robinson's murder finally exposed. After his body being discovered and identified, Vanessa faces a tough time supporting her grieving sister Tracy Robinson, Nate's wife, who is left reeling over the loss. Not only that, but Tracy faces accusations and could be framed for the crime that fans know was actually committed by John Sugden. Michelle told us of the emotional scenes ahead: "Vanessa will be there for Tracy through the whole thing. Fingers do get pointed, and they all start blaming each other. "The thing is Vanessa doesn't think it's Cain [Dingle] who's done it, but Tracy does. Equally she wants to support her sister and be there for her, but she is trying to be the rational one really, and be strong for her." ‌ There does come a moment where Vanessa fears her sister is to blame as other residents question her motives, but Michelle assured us this is very much in the moment and then it's gone. She shared: "There is one little point where she has this conversation with Rhona [Goskirk], and in one instant she says, 'she couldn't have done it... could she?' "Then it's like no, no she wouldn't. I just think with the lies that Tracy has told about Eric it's, oh my goodness, but she doesn't think it at all and really does stand by her." Vanessa and Mary's friendship will remain going forward, after they cleared the air over Mary's kiss with Vanessa's late girlfriend Suzy Merton. She said: "Mary of all people! She was so nice to Vanessa, I couldn't believe it. But she has buried it, as long as we don't talk about it we're fine."

Lockerbie bombing suspect trial delayed until next year

The case is now scheduled for next April. The trial of the man accused of making the Lockerbie bomb - the worst terrorist attack in UK history - has been delayed. Abu Agila Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi was due to go on trial last month. But the case against the pensioner, who is known as Masud, was postponed due to how complex it is, and his poor health. It is now scheduled to go ahead in April next year. ‌ The new date for the case, which is to take place before a jury in Washington, was chosen at the request of the defence and prosecution teams lined up to conduct the trial. ‌ The BBC reports Masud has denied priming the explosive device which brought down Pan Am flight 103 on 21 December 1988, killing 270 people. The explosion killed 259 passengers and crew and a further 11 people in the Dumfries and Galloway town when wreckage of the Boeing 747 fell on their homes. It remains the deadliest terror attack in the history of the United Kingdom. Masud, who is in his early 70s, is described as a joint citizen of Libya and Tunisia. He has been receiving treatment for a non-life threatening medical condition. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In a joint status report to the US district court for the District of Columbia last month, both parties referred to the "complex, international nature" of evidence in the case, adding that a pre-trial schedule would be "atypical". ‌ Lawyers also requested an early deadline for motions to "suppress the defendant's statement," presumed to be an alleged confession Masud made while in jail in Libya in 2012. The claim, which is said to be of "importance to the [US] government's case," alleges that Masud admitted working for the Libyan intelligence service and confessed to building the device which brought down the aircraft. ‌ It is also alleged he named two accomplices, Abdelbasset Al Megrahi and Al Amin Khalifah Fhimah. Megrahi was convicted of murdering the 270 victims and died in Tripoli in 2012 after being freed on compassionate grounds by the Scottish government. Al Amin Khalifah Fhimah, his co-accused in the trial at the Scottish court sitting in the Netherlands, was found not guilty. Scottish and US prosecutors first named Masud as a suspect in the case in 2015 following the collapse of the Gaddafi regime in Libya. He was charged five years later by then-US attorney general William Barr with the destruction of an aircraft resulting in death. Masud was taken into US custody in 2022 after being removed from his home by an armed militia.
