13MP: Anwar urges state governments to prioritise critical sectors
MELAKA: State governments must prioritise critical sectors that contribute to the gross domestic product (GDP) to ensure holistic national development, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said that under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), priority should be given to projects related to the electrical and electronics industry.
"I often remind participants at special state-level development meetings held so far that the priorities listed by central agencies, the Ministry of Economy, and state governments must be aligned and focused on the actual needs of the people.
"State and district leadership must also understand the ministry's focus, as the demands placed on the federal government often exceed its economic capacity due to various constraints, and this must be acknowledged," he said in a statement after attending the Special Melaka State Development Meeting here today.
Anwar said that during the meeting, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh presented Melaka's wishlist to the federal government.
He said the wishlist included road infrastructure, flood mitigation projects, reconstruction and new school buildings, additional wards at Jasin Hospital, public housing projects, and museum upgrades for the tourism sector.
Meanwhile, he urged civil servants to step up and expedite efforts to ensure more effective project delivery for the people and to prevent delays that could strain the federal government's finances.
Today's special meeting is the last to be held across the states before the federal government finalises project proposals under the 13MP, which will be refined ahead of the 2026 Budget announcement in October.

Exim Bank Malaysia to strengthen strategic engagements in Central Asia
KUALA LUMPUR: The Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Bhd (Exim Bank) will focus on strengthening Central Asian ties through strategic engagements to benefit Malaysian businesses and regional partners. In a statement today, it said the initiative includes exploring structured financing solutions for key partners in Uzbekistan, notably a proposed collaboration with Joint-Stock Commercial Bank HamkorBank to support Malaysian companies operating in Uzbekistan and Uzbek importers of Malaysian goods. Hence, the bank's participation in the third plenary session of the Foreign Investors Council in Tashkent has reinforced its commitment to expanding Malaysia's global trade presence. Exim Bank chief business officer Faizah Mustapa said its participation at the high‑level forum signals the bank's strategic intent to support Malaysia's exporters through innovative trade-financing, while exploring joint ventures with Uzbek financial institutions. 'We applaud Uzbekistan's reforms to streamline banking regulations and enhance credit facilities for import‑export activities,' she said. Exim Bank said its participation in the forum aligns with Malaysia's policy to expand investment beyond traditional markets and support the globalisation of Malaysian small and medium enterprises. It also complements Uzbekistan's Vision 2030, which seeks to attract foreign direct investments, increase regulatory transparency, and advance public-private partnership projects in agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, and tourism. 'With 36 Malaysian companies operating in Uzbekistan, ties between the two countries continue to grow. 'This was further strengthened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Uzbekistan in May 2024, followed by a return visit to Malaysia by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in February 2025, reaffirming their commitment to elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership,' it said. The bank said aligning Malaysia's export priorities and Uzbekistan's development strategy offers opportunities across industries such as agriculture, electrical and electronics, tourism and the halal economy. Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil said Malaysia and Uzbekistan have steadily deepened their strategic cooperation across multiple areas – trade, finance, investment and infrastructure – through visionary leadership on both sides. 'Exim Bank is ready to extend comprehensive financing solutions that will further empower Malaysian exporters and strengthen inter‑regional linkages,' said Bahria, who is also the bank's board member. The June 11 forum was co-chaired by Mirziyoyev and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development president Odile Renaud-Basso. Global leaders had convened to explore reforms and opportunities under Uzbekistan's Vision 2030 economic roadmap. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has urged party members to set aside their differences and unite behind party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as PKR prepares for the upcoming Sabah state election and the 16th general election. He said party unity and internal stability were vital to ensuring the success of the reform agenda championed by Anwar and the party. "The struggle must continue. We need to move on, reunite, and stand firmly with the president to deliver our shared vision. Party unity and stability must be our foundation," he said. Ramanan was speaking after attending the Organisational Strengthening Seminar in Melaka, which also featured a special engagement session with Anwar. The event brought together key leaders and grassroots representatives from across the state, aimed at reinforcing party structures and mobilising support ahead of crucial national polls. "This was not just a symbolic gathering. It served as a concrete platform to reinforce the party's organisational machinery, from the grassroots right up to the central leadership," he added. He said Anwar, in his address, stressed the importance of all members being open-hearted and moving past the differences that arose during the party elections. "He reminded everyone that the election phase is over, and now is the time to close ranks, move forward together, and double down on our efforts for the future of the party and the country. "In his speech, the president also called on members to rebuild ties among themselves, even if some were disheartened by the recent election outcomes." 400,000 Malaysian Borrowers Default On RM5 Billion PTPTN Student Loans – No Payments After 10 Years
Subscribe to our FREE Remember when your mom said, 'Always pay back what you borrow'? Well, 400,000 Malaysian borrowers apparently skipped that life lesson and decided to keep RM5 billion of taxpayer money instead. Here's what happened: The government provided student loans through the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) to help students attend university. Nice. Except 400,000 of these 'educated' people decided that paying back their loans was optional, like wearing masks or using turn signals. Instead? It's gone. Vanished. These individuals took the money, obtained their degrees (or not), secured jobs, and then ghosted the government, much like a bad Tinder date. The 'I'm Too Good to Pay Back' Club The craziest part? Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said some of these people have been Not RM1. Not even 50 sen for a phone call to say 'sorry, running late on payments.' Ten years! That's enough time to: Get married, have kids, and send them to kindergarten Buy a car and pay it off completely Watch every Marvel movie twice But paying back their student loan? Nah, too busy apparently. The Math is Simple (Unlike These People's Morals) To ensure borrowers can manage their finances effectively, a Borrowers pay between But these 400,000 looked at that amount and said, 'You know what? I think I'll keep this money for myself instead.' While these people are living loan-free, guess who's covering their unpaid debts? You. Me. Every Malaysian who pays taxes and follows the rules like some kind of sucker. The Government's Brilliant Response: 'Pretty Please?' And what's the government doing about this RM5 billion heist? While these 400,000 are enjoying their free education, other students can't get loans because there is no money left. In a way, these defaulters Some critics have blamed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for this mess, pointing to his past promises to To be fair, Anwar emphasised that PTPTN repayment exemptions would apply to low-income students, regardless of race, who genuinely couldn't afford to repay their loans.
