Bangalore University selected as nodal institution for Prime Minister Professorship programme

Bengaluru: Bangalore University (BU) has been selected as the nodal institution for the 'Prime Minister Professorship' programme under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).

The PM Professorship programme is an initiative to boost the research and development (R&D) ecosystem in less-endowed institutions, particularly state universities. Through this initiative, accomplished researchers will be appointed to strengthen the research capacity of host institutions and guide faculty and students towards cutting-edge, translational research that aligns with national priorities, said a press release from BU.
The selected Prime Minister Professor will be provided a fellowship of Rs 30 lakh per annum and an additional Rs 24 lakh per annum as a research grant. An overhead of Rs 1 lakh per year will also be allocated to the host institution. The tenure of the fellowship is five years.

Nayakanahatti/DHNS: Ensuring all basic facilities for the staff of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is the utmost priority, said Skill Development Centre co-ordinator B Subba Reddy. He was speaking after laying a foundation stone for the IISC staff residential complex to be built at Rs 20 crore at Khudapura near Nayakanahatti on Thursday. The IISc-Skill Development Centre (IISc-SDC) launched in 2011 is one of the premiere institutes training students on basic estimated 20,000 teachers of high school and PU classes from all over the country including those from Union Territories too have been trained by the IISc-SDC. In this view, providing accommodation to these teachers and staff was one of the priorities. Hence, an accommodation complex housing 48 houses will be built at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Reddy laid the foundation stone for the housing a 10 km long ring road along with 4.3 km concrete road is being built at the 1,500 acre IISc campus. Teachers coming here training will be provided with electric vehicles to move around the campus. Besides, facilities like gym, quality food, medical and ambulance facilities too have been provided, he informed. Faculty, Prof Kishore, Prof Raghavendra, engineer Hemanth, CPWD A E Rajagopal and executive engineer Ashawathaiah were present.

AstraZeneca Pharma India's net profit slips 4 pc in Q1

Mumbai: AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited on Thursday reported a 4.12 per cent decline in net profit for the first quarter (Q1) of FY26, with earnings falling to Rs 55.8 crore from Rs 58.2 crore in the previous quarter (Q4 FY25). This dip came despite a strong rise in revenue from operations, which grew 9.56 per cent sequentially to Rs 526.3 crore from Rs 480.4 crore, according to its stock exchange filing. Other income saw a sharp decline of 30.43 per cent, dropping to Rs 11.2 crore from Rs 16.1 crore in Q4 FY25. However, total income rose 8.23 per cent to Rs 537.5 crore from Rs 496.6 crore, driven by solid operational performance. Total expenses increased by 12.12 per cent to Rs 462.4 crore, compared to Rs 412.4 crore in the previous quarter, the company stated in its regulatory filing. Bhavana Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer and Director of the Company, said the strong quarterly performance reflects the power of science-led innovation combined with disciplined execution. 'Each regulatory milestone brings us closer to transforming outcomes for patients living with chronic diseases. We remain focused on expanding our portfolio, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that breakthrough medicines reach the people who need them most,' she added. Praveen Rao Akkinepally, Country President and Managing Director, said that delivering consistent growth across therapy areas reaffirms the strength of the company's 'Growth Through Innovation' strategy. 'These results are a testament to what is possible when science and purpose come together,' he noted. The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), has partnered with the Wadhwani Foundation to inaugurate the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Precision and Personalised Healthcare under the Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN). The inauguration ceremony was held at IIT Delhi's Research and Innovation Park on August 13 was led by Dr Ajay Kela, CEO and board member, Wadhwani Foundation, and Prof Rangan Banerjee, director, IIT Delhi. The event saw participation of Dr Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO, Anusandhan National Research Foundation; Dr Taruna Madan, Scientist G, Head, Division of Development Research, ICMR; Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator, AiMeD; Goutam Bhattacharya, CEO, Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council; Dr Nikhil Agarwal, MD, FITT, IITD and Gagan Sharma, CEO, Proxmed Australia, mentions the press release.
