'I would not be here without street football'
Football not only has the ability to change lives, but also save will no doubt be the case for many of the players heading to compete in the Homeless World Cup in Norway next captain Tor speaks openly about her mental health struggles and says her local street football sessions have been at the heart of her recovery."I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for that first one and having the guts to get myself there," she said."The last two years, it's been really tough. I've been through a lot and street football has really helped me build myself back up."I was like a totally different person, if I'm honest. It's the support that you get through the coaches and the other players in a non-judgement way, it's fantastic." Tor will lead a team of eight Welsh women who have experienced homelessness, mental health issues or addiction at the 20th edition of the Homeless World will be among more than 500 players from 48 nations who will unite in not only their love for the beautiful game, but to drive change for a brighter future."It's a very special moment," said Tor."It's not often that you say that you're proud of yourself, but I am really proud of myself, not just because I've been named co-captain, just because of that journey."Despite only coming together in the past six months, Tor said she and her team mates had forged friendships that will "last a lifetime.".Georgia says football has been a big part of her journey."I stopped playing because of difficulties with mental health and then I found street football and it just reignited my passion," she said."It's great, it gives you confidence, strength, belief and it just shows you that there is light at the end of the tunnel, especially when you're part of something that's bigger than you, and to me, that's street football." 'We mean business' The team insists they are not just going to Oslo to make up the numbers."We are probably the most competitive girls you've ever seen, we've had a few injuries at training, and we're definitely going to go out there and prove our worth," said Tor."We're not just this little country, we are here and we mean business."Tor and her team-mates have also been inspired after watching Wales women compete at Euro 2025 earlier this year, their first major tournament."When I was playing village football, no one knew, you had maybe three supporters watching you on a Sunday, while at a men's match on a Saturday you'd get a full crowd," she said."So for those women to be out there and do that, it's amazing."They have inspired us majorly and the youngsters as well coming through, it's amazing. Hopefully we will get our own red wall." Former Wales goalkeeper Jo Price has been involved in street football for three years and coaches the women's said it has been her "absolute privilege" to work with the group."Everybody has their individual story and to overcome the adversity that they have faced and to be able to get themselves to this point, it's truly inspiring," she said."To be able to represent Wales on the biggest stage at the 20th edition of the Homeless World Cup, and I think this tournament has had the most amount of teams enter, it's going to be incredible."What a journey it's going to be for these women to go and represent us, everybody should be so proud of themselves."Wales kick-off their campaign on Saturday, 23 August.

People are only now realising which Premier League side King Charles follows
Football fans have often wondered on just which teams members of the Royal Family support, but there won't be many who can guess the identity of the club that King Charles III roots for King Charles III, although not widely known for his football fandom, is actually a supporter of Premier League newcomers Burnley. The Royal Family's football allegiances have always been a topic of speculation. The late Queen Elizabeth II's preferred team was never definitively known, but whispers suggested she favoured either Arsenal or West Ham United. Prince William, an ardent Aston Villa fan, is well-known for his love of the sport and has even taken his son, Prince George, to watch Villa and England matches. Prince Harry's allegiance is rumoured to be with Arsenal, though this remains uncertain. However, King Charles has made no secret of his support. At a Windsor Castle reception 11 years ago, he surprised attendees by revealing his backing for Burnley, rather than one of the traditional 'bigger' teams. Speaking at a British Asian Trust event, Charles shared his admiration for Scott Parker's team. He told the audience: "A consortium of my charities, including the British Asian Trust, has been working in Burnley." He continued: "Hence, some of you asked this evening whether I support a British football club and I said, 'Yes – Burnley.' And people have responded, 'Burnley?' Oh yes, because Burnley has been through some very challenging times and I'm trying to find ways of helping to regenerate and raise aspirations and self-esteem in that part of the world." His Majesty has previously visited Burnley's Turf Moor ground and was gifted a jersey bearing 'HRH 1' on the reverse. During that visit, he was spotted sporting a Burnley pin badge on his lapel, reports Aberdeen Live. Speculation persists that he possesses his own VIP season ticket at Turf Moor, though this remains unconfirmed. Nevertheless, he reinforced his affection for the club this year. The King toured aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales in March, where one crew member revealed their football-based chat with the Monarch. Able Seaman Marc Rutherford encountered the King on the bridge and said afterwards: "He was funny and I was surprised he would support a team like Burnley – Newcastle would be much better." The Prince of Wales has similarly expressed his passion for his beloved Villa throughout the years, with William frequently seen supporting Unai Emery's side both home and away. In a 2015 BBC interview, William revealed his reasoning behind choosing Villa. "A long time ago at school I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn't want to follow the run of the mill teams," he said. "I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa's always had a great history. I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton vs Aston Villa back in 2000. Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea." Burnley are making their Premier League return this season, kicking off their campaign against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (3pm). Meanwhile, Villa will be hosting Newcastle United in an early kick-off at 12:30pm, also on Saturday.

Saturday horse racing tips: Free tips and odds for Newbury and Ripon
Saturday's Racing Tips Getreadytorumble (Newbury, 14.25) – 1pt win @ 3/1 Ladbrokes Havana Pusey (Newbury, 15.00) – 0.5pts each-way @ 9/1 William Hill More Thunder (Newbury, 15.35) – 1pt win @ 10/3 BoyleSports Rousing Encore (Ripon, 15.20) – 0.5pts each-way @ 5/1 Betfred Bay Breeze (Ripon, 14.45) – 0.5pts each-way @ 18/1 William Hill The Independent's horse racing correspondent Jonathan Doidge was was 9.82pts in profit for Glorious Goodwood, and he has cast his expert eye on Saturday's racing action focusing on Newbury and Ripon. Jonathan has made his betting tips using the best odds from the best horse racing betting sites. Here are his picks. 14:25 Newbury Tips There's a cracking Saturday card at Newbury and that includes the D&H, Excellence In Nutrition Handicap (14.25), which is a competitive looking 0-88 contest. Getreadytorumble has been showing steady improvement over his last three starts and we probably still have not seen the best of him just yet. Jack Channon knows what it takes to train the winner of this race, having saddled Desperate Hero to do so two years ago and he looks to have found another in this three-year-old. He doesn't appear to be ground dependent, having shown good form on both a sound and slow surface already this campaign and there should be more to come. 15.00 Newbury Tips The TPT Fire Handicap (15.00) has drawn another big field and Havana Pusey looks a big each-way player. John Gallagher's five-year-old was not at her best in a Goodwood Group 3 last time out but her form in her two starts immediately prior to that, over both 6f and 7f, marks her out as one to keep on the right side of in this company. She'll be doing her best work at the business end and there still looks to be some value in her price on betting sites. 15.35 Newbury Tips It's interesting that William Haggas has decided to step up the progressive More Thunder to Group 2 level for the Visit Malta Hungerford Stakes (15.35) and we should take the hint. The Newmarket-based trainer has saddled three of the last 10 winners of this race and his four-year-old has been keeping the company of top handicappers of late. He was a close second in Royal Ascot's Wokingham and went on to confirm that was no fluke by winning the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket's July meeting, last time out. There's no finer judge of equine progress than Haggas and he won't be throwing his charge into this grade just for the experience. Saturday racing tip 3: More Thunder (Newbury, 15.35) – 1pt win @ 10/3 BoyleSports 15.20 Ripon Tips It's Great St Wilfrid day at Ripon and as ever, one of the top handicaps on the northern calendar has drawn a big field (15.20). There are plenty that will feel they have claims but many of those have shown their best form a grade or more below this Class 2 event. One who is used to this level of competition and has held his own within it is Rousing Encore. The Ruth Carr-trained five-year-old won a big field York sprint in May, when 5lb lower. He's followed that up with three successive fourth-placed efforts since then, the most recent of those back at York being his best run of the season. He looks a big player from the same mark, with conditions and trip to suit. 14.45 Ripon Tips The race that precedes the Great St Wilfrid is the consolation contest for those who missed the cut, so the same C&D applies for the William Hill Supporting MND Silver Cup Handicap (14.45). Trainer Tim Easterby has a good record at this venue and he saddles two runners in this race, with preference being for Bay Breeze. With several course and distance wins to his name, this six-year-old should relish being back at the North Yorkshire track. Ideally, he'd want a bit of rain but he has won on good ground a couple of times, he comes into this race back on his last winning handicap mark and he can put a couple of lack lustre efforts behind him and looks a cracking each-way play at double-figure odds.
