Trees n Trends to close all stores after 30 years in business
Now that each location will shutter, the stores are undergoing liquidation sales full of items available for 25 to 50 percent off. The chain also adjusted its store hours, opening Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and closing on Sundays.
A member of the Wallace family explained more details in a video to saddened customers , and confirmed the stores will be closed once there's nothing left to sell. All sales are final, and the stores will only be accepting cash or card payment methods. Although the stores will be shuttering, new merchandise will be arriving in stores this week, including seasonal items.
Trees n Trends is famous for offering various product categories such as furniture, home décor, accessories, and women's clothing. The business had been operating under the name Silk Tree Factory before the Wallace family opted to change the business name. During the early years, Trees n Trends' product line mainly consisted of bushes, stems, greenery, wreaths, and trees manufactured by drilling and potting.
Since the closure news leaked, social media users have been sharing their memories of visiting or working at one of its locations. 'So sad, I have shopped there since it opened its doors as Silk Tree Factory. You will be missed, no other store comes close to being as nice as this store!!,' a Facebook user wrote. 'I learned so so much from Joe and all the leaders. I hold a special place in my heart for this company,' a former employee responded.
'It's unfortunate that the store won't be carrying on for future generations but while the good run lasted, we were blessed to have a wholesome store family operated by Grace... Sad to see it go,' another person commented. It's unclear what the family plans to do next, but they praised its loyal customers, workers and the 'hand of God' for helping them be successful for three decades.
Trees n Trends is one of the rare retailers to always be a family-owned business before store closures. Joann started as a family-owned chain before it became public and acquired by Leonard Green & Partners.
The later went from a craft empire, to a chain that fell from grace, closing all its locations after its second bankruptcy filing in two years. Badcock Home Furniture & More was a family-owned chain founded in 1904 before it was acquired by Franchise Group Inc. in 2021.
By July 2024, the company filed for bankruptcy with over $1 billion in debt, and shuttered its remaining 380 stores soon afterward . Some stores have opted to perform mass closures and bankruptcy filings due to issues of adjusting to tariffs, including At Home, a HomeGoods rival that started shuttering stores before filing for bankruptcy protection in June .

Children often having say in home move choices
Three-quarters (74%) of families say their children have a say over final housing choices during the home moving process, a survey has found. Men (32%) are more likely than women (25%) to take the lead on the home moving process itself, according to the research, commissioned by Zoopla. Male movers are more likely to take the lead in setting a budget (33% versus 19%), deciding on the mortgage (34% versus 17%) and arranging conveyancing (38% versus 24%) than women, the survey indicated. Men also tend to lead in negotiations, with 36% taking charge of the house price negotiations compared with 20% of women. Women are more likely to voice a dislike or reject a property (57% versus 43%) than men, the research found. When it comes to making compromises, 31% of men feel they more frequently make concessions, versus 25% of women. Zoopla commissioned Opinium to survey 2,000 adults across the UK in July and August who live with someone else in their household and have made at least one house move. Daniel Copley, a consumer expert at Zoopla, said: 'For a significant portion of the market, the family home is truly a family decision. Understanding these nuanced dynamics is invaluable and it underscores the importance of open communication for a smoother, happier house hunt.' Nigel Bishop, founder of buying agency Recoco Property Search, said that, in particular: ' Families with young children, who would spend their childhood and teenage years growing up at the property, value the opinion of their offspring.' Mary-Lou Press, an estate agent and president of NAEA (National Association of Estate Agents) Propertymark said: 'A home move can have a huge impact on an entire family, such as school, college and university relocations, as well as longer commutes to a place of work – a move needs to be right for everyone. 'Therefore, it is positive to see that the children of many families are playing a key role in the final decision-making process for their next family home, which is more likely to lead to a happier and more successful future for everyone involved. 'Personally, in my professional opinion, I have noted that women tend to lead the general home buying and selling process.'

At the time of writing, Simba uses DPD Local for its non-mattress products. Unpacking the boxes is easy, and getting the duvets ready to go is a piece of cake. The duvet comes with a storage case, which I used to store the half of the duvet that I wasn't sleeping with. However, I found it wasn't much of a space saver, as it took up the same amount of space under my ottoman bed as any other duvet would. As I had hoped, though, Simba's 3-in-1 duvet felt premium right away. It's got a soft cotton cover, which still feels quality beneath a bedsheet, and the 'renew clusters' in the filling, which are made from recycled plastic, are evenly distributed and divided into pockets so they can't form clumps. Simba 3-in-1 Duvet, from £249 Does it deliver? I tested this duvet in the summer and mostly used it with its lightest 3.5 tog (blue binding), which I didn't find unbearable, even in the middle of a heatwave. That could be down to the duvet's moisture-wicking properties, which help it draw sweat away as you sleep. Simba has always been great at incorporating cooling tech into its products, and the duvet seems to be no exception. The spring/autumn duvet (grey binding) is a 7-tog covering, and I'd back up Simba's claim that it's suitable for the majority of the year. This is the one that I gravitated towards the most. Similar to the light summer duvet, the 7 tog feels luxurious and is incredibly soft. Combine the two duvets and (you maths whizzes guessed it), you get a 10.5 tog duvet designed for cold winter nights. Given the premium design and the options available, I'm surprised to find someone who wouldn't like at least one of the options year-round. How much does the Simba 3-in-1 Duvet cost? The price is the biggest hurdle for the Simba 3-in-1 duvet. At the time of writing, its RRP on the Simba website for a single is £249. That's just too much, in my opinion. A quick search of the web reveals that you can find something similar for well under £50 elsewhere. However, Simba often has discounts, so if you can nab one during a sale, it's more than worth it — we've seen it go as low as £186.75 during sale periods. Simba distinguishes itself from rival brands with its premium quality, eco credentials and carbon-neutral delivery, but even with these positives, I felt that £449 (RRP) is a steep price for a Super King duvet. In my experience, internet mattress brands are notorious for having killer sales during peak periods, so you should be able to find this 3-in-1 duvet at a discount in the near future. We'll update this page with offers on this duvet when we spot them. Can you wash a Simba 3-in-1 Duvet? Yes, the Simba 3-in-1 duvet is machine washable, and I'm reassured by Simba's claim that the duvet will retain its softness and shape even after repeated washes. I can tell from the off that it isn't going to fit in a standard drum, so it'll require a trip to the local laundrette.. Of course, I'll let you know when the time comes for a laundry cycle. It's also incredibly practical and should last a long time. I also appreciate Simba's commitment to environmentally friendly manufacturing and delivery. But would I spend my own money on this duvet? Short answer, no — but when it's on sale, I could be swayed. I'd say to keep your eyes peeled for deals on this duvet around Black Friday and Christmas if you feel like treating yourself.
