Wing Wars of Acadiana returns to downtown Lafayette, raising funds for homeless youth

Wing Wars of Acadiana: Acadiana's Chicken Wing Festival volunteers, cooks and members of the community of Lafayette came together Saturday with the goal of support.
The event at Parc International in downtown aimed to benefit the Gifting Grace Project, which helps homeless children by providing them with essential resources.
David Owens, the founder and chairman of the organization, started the cookoff in 2021. It initially became the organization's premier fundraiser for the Gifting Grace Project. It also serves as a community awareness event.
The Gifting Grace Project began in the fall of 2020 and aimed to give back to the Acadiana community. What started as a holiday outreach, according to their website, quickly grew when they learned that nearly 600 students in the Lafayette Parish School System were experiencing homelessness.
During the cookoff, Wing Wars of Acadiana welcomed all cooks, both professional and amateur, who came together to cook a whole lot of wings.
A total of 12 participated in this year's Wing Wars of Acadiana: Acadiana's Chicken Wing Festival, two more than last year, according to Owens' sister Sarah Arnold, who helps with the Gifting Grace Project.
'We team up with our group of volunteers and committee members to make this happen,' Arnold said. 'We sponsor, on average, around 2000 kids a year, and you have to have money for that, and so as a nonprofit, we rely on fundraising and donations, and this is our only fundraiser event every year.'
Arnold said they raised about $30,000 last year, and they are hoping to meet that number this year and then some.
The 12 teams that competed were:
ATF Bistro
Bayou Bao Co.
Chateau de Haydell
Culture Creole Seasoning
Home-Grill Advantage
Louisiana Love All-purpose seasoning
MaD All Purpose Cajun Seasoning
Mutha Cluckn Wings
NextHome Cutting Edge Realty
Rusty's Seasoning for Every Stuff
Queen's Wings
DezMeaux's Boudin
Wings weren't the only thing that was enjoyed that day. Live music from three Swamp Land Revival, Sharona Thomas Band, and Coteau Grove played throughout the day, as well as fun jumps, balloon animals, and various local booths.
Lines of people filled all 12 booths, ready to eat various flavors of chicken wings. As the boxes filled up with tickets for their favorite flavor, and cheers and laughter grew louder from the teams competing, Keith Domingue with MaD All-Purpose Cajun Seasoning, said they, like everyone else there, were there to support the Gifting Grace Project.
'We enjoy being a part of this event because we are raising money for the kids of Acadiana,' Domingue said. 'We feel very fortunate to do what we do, and we can give back to the community.'
This is the third year in a row that Domingue and MaD All Purpose Cajun have competed in Wing Wars of Acadiana: Acadiana's Chicken Wing Festival. This year they cooked up traditional wings with their barbecue rub, and original to help raise money.
For a pair of newcomers, Summer Wilkinson and Keith Bearb, this was their first Wing Wars of Acadiana: Acadiana's Chicken Wing Festival.
Wilkinson said she has enjoyed her first time here, after being downtown and was told that they should give the event a try.
'I definitely plan on coming back next year,' Wilkinson said.
Bearb, who tried pretty much every wing before noon, said that he was impressed with the event and turnout, especially how well-organized the event was.
As far as his favorite so far, Bearb said the wings from Bayou Bao Co. Their Korean Fired Chicken Wings became one that he remembered most of all.
'It has a really good crust, sauce, sesame seeds, it was crispy, and it was one of the best flavors,' Bearb said.

Arnold said that 100% of the money raised will go straight to the Gifting Grace Project, and for those who participated in a great cause, she said it doesn't get any better than that.
'They're volunteering their time, their money, and they want to do it in this area, in the heart of the city," Arnold said. 'Every year when we do this, we always ask if they can come out and do this, and every time they tell us yes.'

Liverpool announce Jeremie Frimpong as Alexander-Arnold replacement

Liverpool have wasted no time in replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold by announcing the signing of Jeremie Frimpong. Frimpong leaves Bayer Leverkusen after four years having been a key part of their title-winning side in 2023/24. The Netherlands international played over 100 times in the Bundesliga for Leverkusen and also won the DFB-Pokal during their historic double. Advertisement Frimpong returns to English football having come through the ranks at Manchester City and pens a five-year deal at Anfield. Speaking to for the first time, Frimpong said: 'It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. 'For me, it was like, 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done', [speaking to] my agents: 'Just get this done.' 'Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. 'I'm just excited to be here. Arnold Schwarzenegger saw Patrick's 'weenie' on 'The White Lotus' and had some thoughts

The most recent season of Mike White's The White Lotus gave us everything from Jason Isaac's penis to an incest storyline involving Patrick Schwarzenegger's Saxon Ratliff and his on-screen brother, Lochlan, played by Sam Nivola. In a recent interview with Variety, Patrick's dad, the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger, had some thoughts on his son's nudity that is raising eyebrows across the internet, to say the least. — (@) Others defended the former California Governor by saying he was "just being a dad" in "hilarious and awkward" ways. — (@) In the 25-second viral clip, Arnold said, 'I'm watching your show, and I'm watching your butt sticking out there.' — (@) As Patrick laughed, Arnold continued, 'And all of a sudden, I see the weenie, and I said to myself, 'What is going on here? I mean, this is crazy!'' Referring to his own career, Arnold hit his head and added, 'Then I said to myself, 'Well, Arnold, hello! You did the same thing in Conan and in Terminator and all of those films. You were naked, so don't complain about it.'' Still, he admitted it came as a 'shock' to him that his son followed his footsteps 'that closely.' Although the interview sparked an online debate, it isn't the first time Arnold addressed his son's on-screen nudity. In February, he posted on Instagram, stating, 'What a show! I could claim to be surprised to find out he has a nude scene, but what can I say - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' See on Instagram Patrick responded to Arnold's post with a simple tweet saying, 'Parents' with two face-smack emojis. — (@) Outside of the nudity, Arnold said later in the interview that Patrick's acting 'surprised that hell' out of him, saying, 'Not that I didn't know that you're good…But it was just unbelievable, the kind of stuff that you did in the show.' Check out the full interview below: - YouTube Stream the first three seasons of The White Lotus on HBO Max, and keep scrolling for some other fan reactions to the viral clip. — (@) "this whole family is weird tbh" — (@) "yall act as if he wasn't changing his son's diapers" — (@) "Bro said wut?" — (@) "That's one way to bond over TV time." — (@) "I haven't seen da weenie since you were a liddle toddlah!" — (@) "The accent just makes everything better" — (@) "Honestly, the funniest part of the whole segment. The rest of it lacked spontaneity, which is WHY they have actors talk to other actors they don't know well or haven't worked with extensively." — (@) "Awww he must have been such a fund dad to grow up with" — (@) Ok why do ppl think it's weird for them to joke like this?

Former Liverpool star's son signs for Arsenal in LANDMARK deal

Once you become a Liverpool player, you enter into a family former, current and future players. Some might not be looked at as fondly as some of the others because of decisions they made when leaving the club, but they all donned the Liverbird on their chest at some point. Advertisement As you would expect, Trent Alexander-Arnold's legacy now falls into the camp of Steve McManaman and Michael Owen rather than Steven Gerrard. Each player's situation dictates how the fans see them. In the case of Raheem Sterling, the fans are largely in agreement that he will be booed - he was a homegrown talent who had made his way into the first-team at 18 years old, but after three years he left in search of greater playing time. In the grand scheme of things, his reputation is middling. Sterling's son signs for Arsenal Well, regardless of how his relationship with the fans is, you might've expected his children to follow his pathway and join the Liverpool academy if they wanted to become professional footballers. Advertisement However, the Englishman has decided to take his kids elsewhere, with North London's Arsenal taking his fancy, which could suggest one of two things. Firstly, the relationship with the Reds might be pretty non-existent now, given he spent seven years at Manchester City, so his time on Merseyside somewhat pales into insignificance. But secondly, his loan spell from Chelsea to Arsenal has seemingly made a big impression on him, despite the move failing to work out for either party in footballing terms. Sterling didn't get the minutes he was after and he was unable to a difference to the Gunners' attacking threat, perhaps due to a mis-match between the team and the player or merely a sign of decline. Advertisement Put simply, however, the academy at Arsenal is what has taken his attention from his most recent endeavour. It was announced yesterday that his nine-year-old son Thiago will be joining the program.
