Ex-Yankees, Mets pitcher re-joins team that DFA'd him
The Atlanta Braves have re-signed right-hander Carlos Carrasco to a minor league deal, according to his transaction log. The Braves had designated the veteran pitcher for assignment last week. Carrasco cleared waivers and briefly was a free agent before re-joining Atlanta. He'll report to Triple-A Gwinnett. Carrasco, 38, began the season with the Yankees, but after posting a 5.91 ERA over eight appearances (six starts), he was demoted to Triple-A and eventually traded to the Braves before the deadline in exchange for cash considerations. Carrasco has made three starts for Atlanta, posting a 9.88 ERA over 13 2/3 innings. Carrasco played 11 seasons with Cleveland before being traded to the Mets along with Francisco Lindor in Jan. 2021. Over 61 starts across three seasons with the Mets, he posted a 19-20 record with a 5.21 ERA. He returned to Cleveland for the 2024 season. Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Game 1 preview, Monday 8/18, 1:20 CT
SITE NOTE 1: As is traditional here at BCB for doubleheaders, there will be only one StoryStream with all the threads for both games. The game preview for Game 2 will post at 5 p.m. CT and will contain a brief summary of Game 1 and all the lineups, pitchers, etc. for Game 2. A full recap of both games of the doubleheader will post at 8 a.m. CT tomorrow. SITE NOTE 2: 'Three up, three down,' a weekly review of Cubs players, which usually runs Monday morning, will instead run tomorrow because of the doubleheader. Monday notes… WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY? After their last game at home against the Brewers, an 8-7 loss on June 19, the Cubs were 45-29 and led the second-place Brewers by 5.5 games. Since then, the Cubs are 25-24. The Brewers are 38-10. Yesterday was the first day the Cubs gained ground on the Brewers since July 30, when they won at Milwaukee, to cut the deficit to one game from two. (Courtesy BCB's JohnW53) PCA ON THE RISE: Pete Crow-Armstrong went 5-for-8 (.625) in the series against the Pirates, with a double, walk, two HBPs and two runs scored. His season OPS rose from .808 to .822 over the weekend. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEIYA SUZUKI!: The Cubs outfielder/DH turns 31 today. THIS DAY IN CUBS HISTORY: The Cubs matched a Modern Era team record for runs scored with a 26-7 demolition of the Rockies in Colorado. Sammy Sosa went 4-for-6 with a home run and Luis Gonzalez homered and drove in six. It happened 30 years ago today, Friday, Aug. 18, 1995. Here are today's particulars. Cubs lineup: Brewers lineup: Cade Horton, RHP vs. Freddy Peralta, RHP Cade Horton has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since the beginning of July. Over that span he has a 1.13 ERA and 0.874 WHIP in seven starts, with just one home run allowed in 40 innings. And that includes a start in which he gave up four runs in 4.2 innings to the Twins. Since that outing: Five starts, 28.1 innings, 11 hits, one run, 24 strikeouts, 0.32 ERA. That's 2015 Arrieta-esque. He allowed just one hit in his last start to a pretty good Blue Jays team. He has never faced the Brewers or anyone on their active roster. Go get 'em, Cade. Freddy Peralta is having a very good year and made the NL All-Star team. He's leading MLB with 14 wins, for whatever that's worth, and the rest of his numbers, including peripherals, are excellent. The Cubs hit him pretty hard July 30 in Milwaukee, five runs in five innings, including a home run by Michael Busch on the very first pitch of the game. Let's see another one just like that, please. Today's game is on Marquee Sports Network. You can find out if Marquee is available via a provider in your area here. It's also on MLB Network (outside the Cubs and Brewers market territories). Here is the complete live streaming page for today. Gameday game preview Please visit our SB Nation Brewers site Brew Crew Ball. If you do go there to interact with Blue Jays fans, please be respectful, abide by their individual site rules and serve as a good representation of Cub fans in general and BCB in particular. The 2025 Game Thread procedure will be identical to last year's. You'll find the game preview posted separately on the front page two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games). At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page, titled 'Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of week/date) game threads.' It will contain every post related to that particular game, including the First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread, as well as the recap when it's published. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post. You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread in the box marked 'Chicago Cubs Game Threads' at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). The StoryStream for each game can also be found in that section. The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at 90 minutes after the scheduled game time. Discuss amongst yourselves.
