New Pornographers drummer charged with child porn possession after allegedly recording boys in Palm Desert bathroom
Joseph Seiders, the drummer for the indie rock band the New Pornographers, has been charged with possession of child pornography after being arrested for allegedly videotaping unsuspecting boys in a Palm Desert Chick-fil-A restroom.
Seiders, 44, is charged with felony child pornography possession, misdemeanor annoying a child under 18, concealing a camera with intent to invade privacy and attempting to conceal a camera. He pleaded not guilty to the charges April 11, two days after he was taken into custody by Riverside County sheriff's deputies.
In the aftermath of the arrest, the Canadian band announced that Seiders is no longer part of the group.
Seiders was taken into custody by deputies on April 9 shortly after 5 p.m. following a second incident in which he is alleged to have entered a Chick-fil-A restroom when juveniles were inside.

Staff at the restaurant on Dinah Shore Drive in Palm Desert recognized him from an incident two days before and alerted deputies. Sheriff's officials say on April 7, an 11-year-old boy reported that "an unknown male adult recorded him on a cellphone while he was using the restroom at the location." According to deputies, the staff later identified that man as Seiders.
Riverside County sheriff's investigators said they served "search warrants for Seiders' residence, vehicle and cellphone. Evidence was located implicating him in the two reported incidents, along with additional crimes, including possessing child pornography."
Seiders was booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of possession of child pornography, annoying/molesting a child, invasion of privacy and attempted invasion of privacy. Investigators said the investigation remains ongoing and "there may be additional victims."
Riverside County sheriff's booking records show he remains in custody on $1-million bail. In a court filing, prosecutors describe the victim as "particularly vulnerable," and "the crime indicates planning sophistication and professionalism."
'Everyone in the band is absolutely shocked, horrified and devastated by the news of the charges of Joe Seiders — we have immediately severed all ties with him,' the band statement said. 'Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by his actions."
Riverside County sheriff's investigators are asking those with information to contact investigators at (760) 836–1600 or sheriff's dispatch at (951) 776–1099.

Federal agents crash into vehicle, take man into custody in dramatic Boyle Heights arrest
Federal agents rammed and trapped a white sedan in Boyle Heights on Wednesday that contained a man, woman and child. Agents extracted the man, who was driving, before leaving behind the woman and child. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene to investigate the traffic collision, said Officer Tony Im, a department spokesperson. He referred all other inquiries to the Department of Homeland Security. The agency addressed the incident through a social media post Wednesday afternoon. "This was no hit and run. This was a targeted arrest of a violent rioter who punched a CBP officer," the department posted on X, referring to Customs and Border Patrol. "When Homeland Security Investigations tried to arrest Christian Damian Cerno-Camacho for the assault, he attempted to flee. He was ultimately arrested and taken into custody." Authorities said the woman declined medical treatment after officers responded to the 3700 block of Whittier Boulevard on Wednesday morning. Video of the incident showed two sports utility vehicles trapping the Mercedes as it turned right, with the second vehicle pushing its bumper into the sedan before federal agents jumped out with guns drawn. Once the car was stopped and agents exited their vehicles, it appeared that some sort of chemical rounds were fired at the car, video showed. The driver then exited and went to the rear of one of the agent's vehicles and was taken into custody. Homeland Security said that officers were facing a dramatic spike in "assaults against them" and were risking their lives for the arrest of "murders, rapists, and gang members." "Secretary [Kristi] Noem's message to the LA rioters is clear," the post continued. "[Y]ou will not stop us or slow us down. ICE and our federal law enforcement partners will continue to enforce the law. And if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." Canada police bust trucks carrying $47M in cocaine; $1.6M in stolen electronics recovered in US
Canadian investigators recently arrested nine men for using trucks to smuggle cocaine from the U.S. into Canada; while police in Arizona recovered a truckload carrying $1.6 million worth of stolen cargo; and freight theft cases in Illinois and Kentucky surged in April. Canadian authorities said Tuesday they have arrested nine men following the seizure of $47.9 million worth of bricked cocaine, the largest drug bust in Peel Regional Police history. The arrests follow a year-long international investigation into a transnational organized crime network smuggling drugs using tractor-trailers from the U.S. into the Toronto area, according to a news release. 'Thanks to the leadership of Peel Regional Police, and the support of national and international law enforcement agencies … a transnational criminal network is no longer operating or flooding our communities with illicit drugs from the United States,' Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said in a statement. 'Organized crime continues to exploit borders and pose serious threats to public safety.'Peel, located about 24 miles from Toronto, is considered the heart of the trucking industry in the area. It is in Ontario, a province in east-central Canada that borders the U.S. Peel investigators began looking into a cocaine smuggling operation in June 2024 that was using commercial vehicles to carry the drugs from the U.S. into Canada. Over the course of a six month investigation, Peel authorities linked multiple individuals, trucking companies, and storage sites to the transnational smuggling operation. The nine men arrested in connection to the case are from the Ontario area. They face 35 criminal charges related to drug trafficking and firearms offences. Two loaded semi-automatic handguns were also recovered, police said the accused men were held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton, Canada. Supply chain risk management firm Overhaul recently worked with law enforcement to recover a full truckload of stolen electronics after the tractor-trailer carrying the load was taken from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The theft occurred when the shipment was fraudulently uplifted from the airport, Overhaul said in a news release. Instead of being delivered to its intended destination in Childress, Texas, the cargo was transported through New Mexico and eventually into Arizona. The tractor-trailer was located in Flagstaff, Arizona, where state troopers successfully initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, authorities discovered three individuals in the tractor, two of whom were identified as drivers. All three subjects were arrested at the scene. Further investigation revealed that two of the subjects were in the country illegally, Overhaul said. The trailer and its cargo, valued at $1.6 million, were recovered intact and returned to its owner. New data from GearTrack's Cargo Security Index and Verisk's CargoNet shows California, Texas, and Illinois accounted for 68% of cargo theft incidents in April, according to a news theft cases in Illinois during April were up 81% month-over-month, while cases in Kentucky skyrocketed 200% month-over-month. Cargo theft cases in Florida declined by 44% in April compared to March. Electronics, vehicles, and apparel were the top targets of cargo thieves – including a stolen shipment of bitcoin mining computers valued at $2.7 million discovered at the Los Angeles International Airport. 'Recent tariffs on imported vehicles and auto components may also be contributing to a rise in vehicle related thefts,' according to the Cargo Security Index.
