A man who shot five people dead at Bangkok's Or Tor Kor market "had a personal grudge" against security guards there who he believed scratched his car, Thai police said. Four security guards and a stall holder were killed in the incident at the food market in northern Bangkok on Monday (28 July). The man's wife has a stall at the market and he shot himself dead in the head after walking away from the scene and sitting on a bench.
Thailand's army accused Cambodia Tuesday (28 July) of violating an hours-old truce. The former said that clashes continued despite a deal meant to end the bloody fighting at their borders. Following peace talks in Malaysia on Monday, both sides agreed an unconditional ceasefire would start at midnight to end fighting over a smattering of ancient temples in disputed zones along their 800km border.

Heritage brand Ka-Soh Restaurant will be closing its last outlet in September, with the final day of operations at its Bukit Timah branch being Sunday, 28 September.
Since 1939, Ka-Soh Restaurant has been serving Cantonese-style fish soup and classic zi char dishes. After the closure of Ka-Soh's Outram outlet and sister brand, Swee Kee Eating House, in 2021, their Bukit Timah store became their last outlet. However, the owners have decided not to renew their lease.
As Ka-Soh Restaurant prepares to close, they have introduced new rules for diners. Consumers who drop by for lunch will be able to make reservations for both weekdays and weekends, but for the dinner crowd, only walk-ins will be accepted.
The owners have also urged customers to leave their personal containers at home if they're planning to order take-away as it ensures an uninterrupted flow of service as each order is packed promptly.
For more details on Ka-Soh's closure, read here.

Following peace talks in Malaysia on Monday, both sides agreed an unconditional ceasefire would start at midnight to end fighting over a smattering of ancient temples in disputed zones along their 800km border.
"At the time the agreement took effect, the Thai side detected that Cambodian forces had launched armed attacks into several areas within Thai territory," Thai army spokesman Winthai Suwaree reportedly said. "This constitutes a deliberate violation of the agreement and a clear attempt to undermine mutual trust."
However, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said in a Facebook message on Tuesday morning that "the frontline has eased since the ceasefire at 12 midnight".

NYC office building reopens week after mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan

The New York City office building where a gunman fatally shot four people and himself reopened Monday, one week after the deadly rampage. Workers returned to 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan under the watchful eyes of NYPD officers and a surplus of additional security following the mass shooting. According to investigators, gunman Shane Tamura was targeting the National Football League headquarters when he unloaded 47 rounds from an assault rifle, killing four people, including an off-duty NYPD officer, before turning the gun on himself. Many companies inside the building left it up to employees to decide whether they were ready to return. The NFL told its employees to work remotely until the end of the week, and Blackstone officials said their workers were given the option to work from home. The shooting victims were identified as NYPD Det. Didarul Islam, Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner, Rudin Management employee Julia Hyman and security officer Aland Etienne. LaPatner, Hyman and Islam, were laid to rest last week. Etienne's funeral will be held on Saturday. "I just feel sad, you know. That's really what I feel at this point in time. Just very sad for all the innocent lives lost," a man who works at the Bank of America on the ground floor said. "It's not going to feel the same because now every time that you walk by here now, it's just, unfortunately, stained." He added that his colleagues had helped one of the shooting victims open a bank account. St. Bartholomew's Church, next door to 345 Park Ave., raised a banner offering its support to workers still healing from the trauma inflicted by the shooting. "We are here for you," the banner reads, a small comfort amid unimaginable grief.

Blackstone Staffers Return to Park Avenue One Week After Tragedy

Blackstone Inc. 's Steve Schwarzman walked into the company's headquarters at 345 Park Ave., through the lobby that a week ago had been the scene of horror and chaos when a gunman killed one of its rising stars and put scores of employees in lockdown. Michael Chae, the firm's chief financial officer, came through too, stopping to shake hands with three staff stationed outside the door, and then inside had a huddle with Bill Rudin, whose family owns the Midtown skyscraper and also lost an employee last Monday. Schwarzman, Blackstone's chief executive, and firm President Jon Gray also stood in the lobby, greeting people as they walked in.

Shooting in Downtown Los Angeles Leaves 2 Dead and 6 Wounded, Police Say

Two people were killed and six others wounded in a shooting in downtown Los Angeles early Monday morning at an after-party following the Hard Summer Music Festival, the authorities said. The shooting did not appear to be one of four official after-parties that the festival had sponsored. The unsanctioned party was promoted on social media as a celebration after the festival, which featured electronic dance music but also included many crossover acts. The two-day festival was held over the weekend at Hollywood Park, next to SoFi Stadium, in Inglewood, just southwest of downtown. Representatives for the festival could not immediately be reached. Police officers observed a 'big party' at 1116 14th Place at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, officials said, and noticed a person, who was possibly armed with a gun, go inside, the police said in a statement. Officers shut down the party and arrested that person on a firearm possession charge, said Officer Norma Eisenman, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. At about 1 a.m. Monday, officers returned to the same spot after reports of gunfire, she said. They found eight people shot. One man was declared dead at the scene. Seven other people were taken to a hospital, one of whom, a woman, died, Officer Eisenman said. The conditions of the others who were wounded were not immediately available. It was not immediately known what led up to the shooting. It was also unclear what, if any, connection the person charged with firearms possession might have had to the shooting. No arrests have been made, and there was no description of the shooter. The festival itself faced a 10 p.m. curfew in Inglewood, after the city received hundreds of noise complaints last year.
