Is Mahabharat Aamir Khan's Last Film? Actor Says, "I Cannot Do Anything After This"
Aamir Khan is all set for the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. The RS Prasanna directorial is scheduled to hit cinema screens on June 20.
Up next, the superstar will begin work on his long-cherished dream project, Mahabharat. In a recent interview with Raj Shamani, Aamir hinted that Mahabharat might be his final project.
Speaking about the scale of bringing the mythological epic to life on screen, Aamir Khan said, 'It's layered, it has emotion, it has scale, everything you find in the world, you will find in Mahabharat…Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do. I cannot do anything after this, as the material of this film is going to be like that."
He added, "I hope that I die with my shoes on, but since you are asking, this is the one thing I can think of. Perhaps after this, I will feel that I don't need to do anything else."
In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir Khan shared his vision for Mahabharat. 'That's one of my biggest ambitions," the actor said, admitting that even developing the script would take years.
"We'll see who we should cast based on who's appropriate for which part. I don't think you can tell the 'Mahabharat' in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale," he added.
Noting that it may be a multi-director project, he concluded, "To complete it within a set time, we will need more than one director."
Aamir Khan is also producing Rajkumar Santoshi's period-drama Lahore 1947, featuring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta.

There was a film of Abba jaan (father), Locket, which took eight years to make. There were problems with the actors' dates so the film, which was supposed to finish in one or one and a half years, stretched to eight years," said Aamir. The long delay in completing the film led to years without income for the Khan household. Aamir explained how high-interest loans worsened the situation. 'There was no income at home for eight years. Because Abba jaan had taken a loan, and the interest was top-level at 36%, there was a very long rough patch in the middle," he continued. He shared how his father was trapped in a cycle of debt with lenders pressuring him but no new financiers willing to step in. At the time, Aamir was playing competitive tennis and did his bit to help the family. 'I used to play competitive tennis then. Since I knew there's stress at home, I'd keep whatever prize money I won with my Ammi (mother) and tell her if she wants to buy any of my stuff, like shoes or clothes, she should buy from that money. When I'm saying all this, I'm realising I became responsible from a very young age," Aamir recalled. Tahir Hussain, remembered for producing classics like Caravan (1971), Anamika (1973), and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), also directed Aamir in the 1990 fantasy drama Tum Mere Ho. At a recent Taare Zameen Par fan-meet, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan revealed that his son Junaid Khan is dyslexic. He mentioned that he is now comfortable discussing it, since Junaid has already made it public himself. He said that he connected deeply with the story of the 2007 film 'Taare Zameen Par' as it mirrored his own experience. While he did not understand Junaid's struggles with reading and writing initially, he later discovered the condition, and supported him. Aamir said that he didn't speak about it earlier out of respect for Junaid's privacy, and that he believed only Junaid had the right to share his own story. I used to scold Junaid." He further added that when Junaid was a child, his handwriting was really bad. 'So I would tell him, 'Junaid, how can someone write so badly? No one can even read this. What is it? You can't even write an A? What's going on?' I genuinely used to ask him. And when he used to read, he would say 'from' instead of 'for'. Whenever he saw an 'F', he would just guess the word- of, from, for. He couldn't read properly. So I used to try to explain things to him, and I would get confused too — how can he not understand such simple things? Then later on, we found out he has dyslexia. And of course, we helped him with that. But when I heard the story, it felt like my story. It was so close to me." When Junaid Khan Talked About His Dyslexia Diagnosis In January, Junaid Khan revealed how his parents, Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta, realised that he has dyslexia. Junaid said that while reading the story of Taare Zameen Par, his parents realised that the child in the story was having similar experiences as Junaid.
