Club World Cup: Manchester City knocked out of competition by Al-Hilal
City initially took the lead through Bernardo Silva, but Al-Hilal responded with goals from Marcos Leonardo and Malcom to go ahead.
Erling Haaland and Phil Foden scored equalisers for Manchester City, with Foden's goal sending the match into extra time.
Al-Hilal regained the lead in extra time via Kalidou Koulibaly before Marcos Leonardo secured their victory with his second goal in the 112th minute.
The defeat means Manchester City will not progress further in the tournament, while Al-Hilal will face Fluminense in the semi-finals.

Three Premier League clubs 'targeting £43m-rated Real Madrid star in summer move' after breakout Club World Cup campaign
Three Premier League sides are reportedly targeting the highly-rated Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia for a summer move. The 21-year-old has enjoyed an impressive breakout tournament at the Club World Cup and is said to have a release clause of just €50million (£43m). Garcia has scored twice and provided one assist in three games, having acted as a replacement for the ill Kylian Mbappe. He scored in group games against Al-Hilal and Red Bull Salzburg, claiming an assist in Madrid's victory over Pachuca, as the Spanish giants eased to the top of Group H. The Spaniard, who has come through the club's academy, has even been compared to Real Madrid legend Raul by boss Xabi Alonso. And a trio of Premier League clubs are now eyeing the striker, according to Diario AS. They claim the 'top Premier League clubs have called the Madrid striker's entourage' about a summer move and that there has been 'tentative contact' to work out his contractual situation. Leeds United and Sunderland are reportedly two of the clubs interested. Gonzalo has two years remaining on his contract at Madrid, but his buyout clause is reportedly a relatively affordable €50m (£43m). However, the academy star wants to remain at Real Madrid and play for Xabi Alonso. He is said to want to establish himself in the first team and follow in the footsteps of Marco Asencio, Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez, and Lucas Vázquez. But despite impressing at the Club World Cup, it will be tricky for the 21-year-old to displace Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo or Endrick in Madrid's starting lineup next season. Meanwhile, this season Gonzalo scored 25 goals and provided four assists for Real Madrid Castilla, who play in the Spanish third tier. 'I've followed the Castilla a lot, not just him,' Alonso said. 'To be honest, what he does isn't a surprise. He did it many times for the Castilla. 'He's a typical No.9 who knows how to wait for his opportunity and moves well. He reminds me of Raúl, always in the right position, waiting for the opportunity, getting chances and fighting for them. I'm very happy for him, and we need more of him.' Asked whether García will remain in his squad next season, Alonso said: 'There are no decisions regarding the start of the 2025–26 season... we're focused on the Club World Cup with who we have. The Club World Cup tells you things, but there's no decision.' Garcia added: 'It's a dream to be here, to be able to play minutes in this shirt, which means everything to me,' he proclaimed. 'It's truly a dream come true. 'I hope to score many more goals in this shirt. Now I'm enjoying this experience to the fullest.'

It's too early to say – Pep Guardiola hoping Man City can challenge next season
Pep Guardiola feels it is 'too early to say' whether Manchester City will be back competing for the biggest prizes next season. City's hopes of using the Club World Cup to kickstart a revival after an underwhelming 2024-25 campaign ended prematurely as they crashed out to Saudi side Al-Hilal in Orlando on Monday night. Advertisement With new signings catching the eye in an impressive group phase that culminated with a 5-2 thrashing of Juventus, City appeared to have turned a corner. But old defensive failings returned as Al-Hilal produced a stunning upset at the Camping World Stadium, edging a pulsating last-16 encounter 4-3 after extra time. 'I don't know,' said City manager Guardiola afterwards when asked if his team had convinced him they could challenge next term. 'It's too early to say but I saw many, many good things that I didn't see in the past, especially from where we were. Advertisement 'The relation between the players and our captains helps a lot, and the backroom staff. 'It's sad because I felt that we were happy here. The training sessions had been really, really good – all of them. 'But the level in these competitions, Club World Cup, (is high).' City looked on course for the quarter-finals after taking an early lead through Bernardo Silva but they paid the price for missing a series of chances to increase their advantage. Advertisement Marcos Leonardo and Malcom turned the game around for Al-Hilal early in the second half. Erling Haaland forced extra time but City required a Phil Foden volley to level again after Kalidou Koulibaly headed Al-Hilal back in front. City could not regain the initiative and Leonardo settled an eventful contest – securing a statement victory for Saudi football in the process – after 112 minutes. Question marks remain over the size of City's squad ahead of the new season with Guardiola having previously suggested some players could leave. Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish, who were not involved in the United States, have been the subject of the most speculation. 'We have to wait for players to come back. I'm so sorry for John, not to give him minutes, but the game was so demanding.
