Barcelona crush Wolfsburg in Women's Champions League to make semi-finals
Defending champions Barcelona cruised to a 6-1 home win over Wolfsburg in the second leg of their Women's Champions League quarter-final to book a semi-final place with a stunning 10-2 aggregate win.
Barça were 3-0 up at the break following a Salma Paralluelo double and Esmee Brugts's fine strike.
Substitute Clàudia Pina scored a fourth before Wolfsburg forward Lineth Beerensteyn pulled a goal back for the visitors. Pina and defender Maria León completed the rout for Barcelona with two free kicks.
The Spanish side will face Manchester City or Chelsea, who play later on Thursday, in the semi-finals in April. City lead 2-0 from the first leg.

Arsenal were set to sign midfielder before transfer snub and Real Madrid hijack
Real Madrid star Federico Valverde was close to clinching a move to Arsenal as a teenager but admitted he declined the transfer before the Spanish giants secured his signature Federico Valverde previously revealed he came close to signing for Arsenal, but backed out due to feeling uncomfortable during a short stint in England. The Real Madrid talisman had gone on trial with the Premier League side in 2016 while he was in the youth academy of his boyhood club Penarol in his home country of Uruguay. Despite the interest shown in him by the north London side, Valverde opted to turn down a move to England and instead chose the Spanish giants, where he's been ever since. Valverde's decision was certainly a fruitful one considering he's been a major part in the 14 trophies he's won at the club since 2017, including two Champions League titles and three La Liga trophies. It was in 2023 when the 26-year-old opened up about rejecting Arsenal and explained the various reasons behind his decision. "If you Google me, you will see stories about how I almost went to Arsenal when I was 16. That's maybe half-true," he wrote in his column for The Players' Tribune. "It's nothing against Arsenal, but I never wanted to go to England. At that time, the business side of football took over. Certain people were telling me, 'Who wouldn't want to go play for Arsenal? You want to stay here in Uruguay? That's crazy!' What they were really saying under their breath was, 'We can all make a lot of money if you go.' "You realise that your life is not your own in football. Especially at a young age, you feel more like a hostage. Even your family becomes a hostage. Football is an escape to a better life, especially for us in South America, and the vultures know that." Valverde cited the impossibility of his family coming to live with him and having to navigate a foreign country without knowing the language as reasons behind turning down the move. "They put the pressure on you in a 'nice' way," he added. "'Damn, Fede, if you go to Arsenal, you'll have a nice bed and a shower that stays warm for 30, 40 minutes! Who wouldn't want that life?' They sent me on trial to London for a week, and I just wasn't comfortable. "If you only think of material things, it sounds great. But we are not robots. The reality was that my family couldn't come to London with me. I'd have to live alone, not speaking the language, at 16-years-old. For every one kid who succeeds in moving overseas, you don't see the 100 who fail." Valverde will find himself playing alongside new team-mates in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen this season while reports suggest his club were intent on hijacking Arsenal's deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Mikel Arteta's side have long been regarded as favourites to sign the Spain international who rejected a move to Liverpool last summer. According to Spanish outlet AS, Madrid had planned a "final attack" to convince the midfielder to remain in Spain. Despite the reports, The Athletic have insisted Arsenal expect Zubimendi to be present for pre-season training, with the club regarding the deal for the 26-year-old as complete.

Dean Huijsen calls Real Madrid ‘the club of my life' after move from Bournemouth
The 20-year-old, who agreed a five-year deal at the Bernabeu last month, met president Florentino Perez at the club's training complex to sign his contract and be officially presented as a Real player. The move followed an outstanding season, his first at the Vitality Stadium, during which he helped Andoni Iraola's team to a ninth-place finish in the Premier League. A post shared by Real Madrid C.F. (@realmadrid) 'I want to thank the president,' said Huijsen, who was born in the Netherlands but moved to Spain aged five where he became naturalised. 'I've wanted to be here since day one. Since Madrid called, I've had no other team in mind.' The defender played 36 times last season for the Cherries, establishing himself as a breakout star of the Premier League season following his move from Juventus last summer. His performances led to a first senior call-up for his adopted country Spain, for whom he made his international debut during the Nations League quarter-finals against the Netherlands in March. He had previously represented the country of his birth at age-group level. ✨ @XabiAlonso 🤝 @DHuijsen ✨#WelcomeHuijsen — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) June 10, 2025 His move to the Spanish capital came after Real triggered the release clause in his Bournemouth deal. 'I want to thank my family, from driving me to training every day to travelling with me,' he said. 'And thank you to my brothers. 'I'm coming to the best club in the world and I'm here to give it my all with humility, and hopefully we can win many trophies together. 'Madrid is the club of my life. Thank you very much. Hala Madrid.'

Alonso's comments on Arsenal target Zubimendi say it all as phone call emerges
Martin Zubimendi is at a crossroads, with both Arsenal and Real Madrid trying desperately to sign the Real Sociedad midfielder, who nearly joined Liverpool last summer, only for the transfer to fall through Arsenal are on the verge of their first big signing of the summer, with Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi inching closer to a move to the Emirates Stadium. The 26-year-old midfielder, long admired by the Gunners, is in advanced talks with the club, though Real Madrid are trying hard to hijack the move. With Zubimendi turning heads for both clubs and country in recent seasons, excitement in Arsenal circles is growing. But it's the glowing endorsement from Xabi Alonso, one of football's sharpest minds, that truly underscores the magnitude of this potential signing. Back in 2022, when Alonso was managing Real Sociedad's B team, he lavished praise on Zubimendi, having worked closely with him at the Reale Arena. "Martin's a player all coaches would want," the now Real Madrid manager declared. "He's generous, he always thinks more about his team-mates than himself. He has that ability to generate play, to make those around him better, always offering solutions; to improve the move." These aren't just kind words from a former coach - they're a testament to Zubimendi's rare blend of selflessness and technical brilliance, qualities that have made him a prime target for Arsenal. Alonso's admiration goes deeper, with the coach highlighting Zubimendi's almost preternatural understanding of the game. "He understands what the next step is before the ball gets to him," Alonso explained. "He has that ability to organise, the axis." This ability to anticipate and dictate play has drawn comparisons to Alonso himself, who was a master of controlling the tempo during his illustrious playing career at Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. For a manager of Alonso's calibre to speak so highly of Zubimendi speaks volumes. It also explains Los Blancos' recent efforts to steal him from under Arsenal's nose. The La Liga giants are keen to find a replacement for Luka Modric, who will leave the Bernabeu after 13 trophy-laden years after this month's Club World Cup, and have turned their attention to Zubimendi after being told by Chelsea that Enzo Fernandez wasn't for sale. According to Spanish outlet Marca, Zubimendi recently received a phone call from Madrid that "changed everything", with the 15-time Champions League winners looking to convince him to snub the Gunners in favour of a move to the Spanish capital. Still, Arsenal remain optimistic, having laid a lot of groundwork for the transfer over the past few months. The London club have also agreed to pay more than Zubimendi's £51million release clause in an attempt to beat Real Madrid to the punch. Their efforts are no surprise, given Zubimendi's impressive, versatile wheelhouse. Comfortable as a deep-lying playmaker or a box-to-box midfielder, he offers a blend of technical brilliance and tactical flexibility that few can match. His composure under pressure and ability to read the game, plus his selfless work rate - Alonso's "generous" tag wasn't just a throwaway compliment - make it clear why Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who makes no secret of his desire to sign players with top personalities as well as ability- has made Zubimendi a priority. For now, Arsenal fans are holding their breath. If the club pulls off this transfer, they'll be signing a player who, in the eyes of one of football's greats, has the potential to define their future. But the fact remains: few players ever resist Real Madrid's siren song. The Gunners can only hope that Zubimendi ends up bucking the trend.
