You can play Switch 2 at Gamescom 2025 as Nintendo confirms attendance
Now that E3 is no more, Gamescom is the world's biggest gaming event, based on its size and visitor numbers, but one company was notably absent last year.
Nintendo skipped last year's event, held annually in Cologne, Germany, and while no explicit reason was given at the time, it was presumably so the company could prepare for the Switch 2's launch.
Nintendo has now confirmed it will return for Gamescom 2025, which takes place from August 20 until August 24.
The news was announced on Nintendo's German account on X. 'Mark your calendar in red,' the post reads. 'Nintendo will be back at Gamescom in 2025. We look forward to welcoming you to Cologne from August 20th to 24th!'
There are no details on what Nintendo will show, but it will likely focus on the Switch 2 line-up beyond its initial launch on June 5, 2025.
Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza will both be released by the time Gamescom 2025 rolls around, so it might be the place to showcase Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends Z-A, which are both slated for later this year, albeit without exact release dates. More Trending
Drag x Drive, aka the wheelchair basketball game, is also set to launch at some point in the summer, while Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment and Kirby Air Riders both have vague 2025 release dates, so it's possible they could be playable too.
Neither Microsoft or Sony have announced whether they're attending Gamescom 2025, but the latter has skipped for the last several years. With Marathon and Ghost of Yōtei on the horizon though, it's possible Sony could make an appearance.
As usual, Gamescom 2025 will be preceded by Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, which serves as a starting presentation for the event with game announcements.
Before Gamescom, Keighley is set to host Summer Game Fest on Friday June 6, which will be followed by an Xbox showcase on Sunday, June 8.

The pair first met in 2022, welcomed baby Aria in 2023 and tied the knot in a plush 2024 bash straight out of a fairy tale. But it's not all roses and romance, they're juggling marriage and parenthood from different countries. Karius now plays for German Bundesliga two side Schalke after leaving Newcastle while Diletta's continues her DAZN gig in Milan. But according to the goalkeeper his wife loves it and creates an atmoshphere where its right for them to feel the love even from a distance. He told Sport Bild: 'Diletta even advised me to extend at Schalke. "She thinks the club is great and she likes everything she has seen here so far. "Diletta also thinks that royal blue is the perfect choice for my sporting success. She is fully behind this decision." He added: 'But of course it's hard for me when I can't see my little daughter Aria for days. The 32-year-old goalkeeper also admitted he's open to a second child even though he's not planned anything yet. He added: "We would love to have a second child, we don't know when yet and nothing concrete is planned so far." The goalie also revealed that his missus is the real celeb in the family – especially in Milan. He added: 'She gets recognised more than me. She's a superstar over there.' But Karius wasn't quite ready for the full Italian family welcome. On meeting Diletta's clan in noisy Sicily, he fled the lunch table and locked himself in the bedroom for a lie-down. His wife Dilette revealed on a podcast: 'He was shattered by life, bless him. 'He said, Please stop, I need a break. "He went upstairs to his room locked himself in and threw himself on the bed destroyed by life." Since his Liverpool nightmare, Karius has done the rounds – Besiktas, Union Berlin, Newcastle and now Schalke in Germany's second tier, where he just signed a deal until 2027. 11 Diletta Leotta is one of DAZN top footie presenters Credit: Instagram / @dilettaleotta 11 She was in the U.S working during the just ended Club World Cup Credit: Instagram / @dilettaleotta 11 Every now and then she'd drop a stunning photo on her Instagram page for her followers Credit: Instagram / @dilettaleotta 11 The presenter first met Karious in 2022 and now they have a daughter Credit: Instagram / @dilettaleotta 11 Diletta admits Karius couldn't handle meeting her family for the first time Credit: Instagram / @dilettaleotta 11 She's happy to stay in Milan while her husband stays in Gelsenkirchen playing for Schalke Credit: Instagram / @dilettaleotta 11 Italian television presenter and model, married to German professional footballer Loris Karius Credit: Instagram / @dilettaleotta

Outlander's Caitriona Balfe says 'I never thought we would have to say goodbye' in emotional post
Outlander will come to an end with the eighth and final series in 2026 Outlander season eight has been confirmed to air in "early 2026" as Starz made an announcement on Instagram. Reacting to the teaser trailer which highlights how far Claire and Jamie Fraser have come since they first met in season one, Caitriona penned an emotional message. Sharing the poster for the final series on her Instagram story, Caitriona posted: "Wow. I never thought we be so lucky to get this far... and now that we have I never thought we would have to say goodbye... what a journey... what a story. "Thank you to Diana, the fans, our crew, fellow cast and our writers and producers... everyone at Sony and Starz... here is our final poster." The teaser for season eight will no doubt satisfy fans as it recaps the most important moments from Claire and Jamie's love story. Claire can be heard narrating: "Time is marked and measured in different ways. Nothing can stand against time. Not mountains, not armies." Jamie then replies: "Time doesn't matter, Sassenach… To see those years touch you gives me joy, for it means that you live." The title for the teaser reads: "Every promise, every sacrifice, every moment has led to this." However, one detail that will no doubt have caught the attention of fans is Jamie's declaration he will soon die. In the two and a half minute clip, he tells Claire he has read her late husband Frank Randall's book and it reveal war is coming in the backcountry. In a further blow, he reveals: "War is coming to the backcountry and that James Fraser dies in it." Fans will know from the novel, Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone, that Frank's book was posthumously and details the Battle of King's Mountain. Jamie and Claire had previously been reported to have died in a fire but it turned out to be a mistake. Fans will be hoping Frank's book also holds a mistake and Jamie will survive with Claire. Reacting to the teaser, one fan posted: "Can't believe THAT scene is coming to our screens in 2026… God, Claire Fraser help us all." Another added: "They better get their happily ever after or so help me God," as a third penned: "I don't think I took a single breath while watching this reel. I can't believe this is really coming to an end."
