Ole Miss football player Corey Adams is killed in Tennessee shooting
Law enforcement officials found Adams with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle at an intersection in Cordova on the outskirts of Memphis late Saturday, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
'They provided life-saving measures until Shelby County Fire arrived,' the sheriff's office said. 'Shelby County Fire personnel later pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.'
Four other men who suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds in the incident arrived at nearby hospitals in personal vehicles, authorities said.
Law enforcement officials have not named any suspects but said they are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
Adams, an 18-year-old New Orleans native, had been one of the top defensive linemen recruits in the country.
The football program at the University of Mississippi said in a social media post it was 'devastated' to learn of Adams' death.
'While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,' the team said. 'We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.'
Adams' former New Orleans high school football team, the Edna Karr Cougars, said in a Facebook post that 'words can't describe this type of pain.'
'Corey Adams was more than a football player! He was a friend, brother, son, student, and all around great young man,' the team stated. 'We never question God but this is one we just don't understand.'

Dog the Bounty Hunter's son 'placed on psychiatric hold' after accidentally shooting his son
Dog the Bounty Hunter's stepson Gregory Zecca has been placed on psychiatric hold after the death of his son. Gregory - who is the son of the Duane 'Dog' Chapman's wife Francie Frane and her late husband - accidentally shot and killed his 13-year-old son Anthony on July 19, and has been left devastated by the tragedy. A representative for the family told TMZ that Gregory is on a 5150 psychiatric hold over concerns for his wellbeing after Anthony's death. The spokesperson noted that the decision was made because of the father's grief, not because of he feels guilty of a crime. The Collier County Sheriff's Office are conducting an investigation into what they have described as an "isolated incident". The police department told E! News in a statement on Monday (21.07.25): 'Our detectives are conducting a thorough investigation looking into all the elements of this tragic incident. 'The investigation includes statements from witnesses who were at the scene, forensic testing, subpoenas, and search warrants.' Meanwhile, the family said they are mourning "over this incomprehensible tragic accident". A rep for Dog and Francie told TMZ: "We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident, and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony." Dog - who has 13 children from previous relationships - got together with and Francie in 2020 after they both suffered the loss of a spouse. The TV star lost his wife of 13 years Beth in 2019 after a battle with cancer, while Francie's husband Bob Frane died in 2018. Francie previously told Entertainment Tonight the pair bonded over their shared grief which helped bring them together as a couple. She explained: "We understood the pain that the other one was feeling, and [in] those tough days and moments, we helped each other stand up. "We could cry with each other and talk about what we were feeling. "We were able to walk alongside each other through the pain and heartbreak, and it brought us together in this amazing way." The pair went on to marry in 2021, but Francie insisted they will never forget their lost loved ones. She added: "We're both still grieving. We're never going to leave Bob and Beth behind [or] forget about them. They'll always be a part of us."

Encino residents, authorities meet over city's troubling spike in crime after "American Idol" producer's deadly shooting
Encino residents, law enforcement members and county leaders gathered on Monday to address a troubling spike in crime in the area, highlighted by the deadly double-shooting that left "American Idol" producer Robin Kaye and her husband dead last week. The shooting is just the latest in a trend that has seen the community plagued with smash-and-grab robberies, break-ins, jewelry store burglaries and now murder. Months of this has residents both angry and afraid, concerns they voiced during Monday's meeting. "What I wanna know is: why does it have to take a death in order for us to have a meeting like this?" one woman asked at the meeting. Related: Police arrest alleged vandal who had been terrorizing Encino neighborhood for months She was one of hundreds in attendance, including Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, who reassured the crowd that he was working to try and mitigate the incidents. "I've got 750 prosecutors who are on message, on mission, working now with law enforcement every single day to send a message to these criminals, that their golden age of committing crime without consequence is done," he said. Still, he urged residents to continue asking for more. "You demand that we get some better safety in this community, and again this community could be the catalyst in making that happen," Hochman said. Related: Burglars hit Encino home twice in the same week Officers said that violent crimes in the area are actually down year over year, but that they're always looking for new ways to address community safety and expand services. They say that they've requested additional patrols, flyovers with department aircraft and even mounted patrols. "The decreases don't matter, there are still people being victimized by these crimes, by these organized burglary crews," said Los Angeles Police Department Captain Mike Bland. "I wanna make sure that you guys understand, I could talk to you about these numbers, but facts remain is we're still here and we're still fearful, that's why this room is filled today." During the meeting, Hochman also revealed that Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, were shot and killed with their own gun, which the suspect found inside of their home when he allegedly broke in.

Mountain lion bites 4-year-old on popular Olympic National Park trail, injuring child
A mountain lion bit a 4-year-old who was walking with their family over the weekend on a popular trail in Olympic National Park in Washington state, park officials said Monday. The child was injured during Sunday's attack and flown to a trauma center in Seattle for treatment, according to a statement from the National Park Service. The attack by a mountain lion fitted with a tracking collar was near an overlook on Hurricane Ridge, a popular mountain area with expansive views. The attack was reported to rangers around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday and paramedics and park staff traveled to the injured child, according to the National Park Service. Rangers immediately started searching for the cougar and by Monday, park staff had 'dispatched the animal,' the statement said using a term that generally refers to killing an animal. 'There are no current threats to the public,' the statement said. Officials said they would not be releasing any identifying information about the child to protect their identity.
