Court denies bail on med grounds for Colvale jail inmate
A North Goa court rejected bail on medical grounds for a Colvale Central Jail inmate accused of murdering his ex-wife's uncle in 2021. He sought interim bail for six months for kidney stone treatment after a ureteral stent procedure.
The inmate said his medical needs are difficult to manage in jail, where he is required to lift 7–8 buckets of water daily, share a toilet with 35–40 inmates, climb stairs for meals, monitor his sugar intake as tea contains sugar, and sleep with only one pillow and two thin sheets in the cold kadappa cell.
The court denied bail and directed jail authorities to transfer him to a ground-floor cell with a single inmate who would serve as his caretaker, assisting with daily needs, including carrying water buckets and collecting his meals. It also ordered the authorities to provide sugarless tea, a mattress, an extra pillow, a bed sheet, and a blanket.
The court noted that he was refused bail four times and has now sought bail on medical grounds. The court found his medical condition insufficient for bail and said post-treatment care can be provided in jail.

Another NEET aspirant found hanging in rented room in Kota
Jaipur: A 20-year-old B Sc Agriculture first-year student allegedly committed suicide in Kota on Sunday, just hours after returning from his village, where he had celebrated Raksha Bandhan. The deceased, identified as Abhishek Meena, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his rented room in the Rangbari area of Kota, police said on Monday. According to his cousin, Satish Meena, Abhishek hailed from Rampuriya Bhagatan village in Mangrol, Baran district. He had been studying in Kota for the past five years and was staying in a rented accommodation. On Saturday, he had visited his village to celebrate Rakhi with his family. He returned to Kota around 10-11 a.m. on Sunday. Satish said Abhishek had to vacate his rented room soon. Around 3 p.m., the landlord went to his room but found the door locked from the inside. When repeated knocks went unanswered, he peeped through the window and saw Abhishek hanging. The landlord immediately informed the police and family members. Police and relatives rushed to the spot. The window glass was broken to gain entry, and Abhishek was taken down and shifted to New Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Satish recalled that Abhishek's father, a farmer, had advised him to focus on his studies when he came home late on Saturday night. Abhishek was the only son in the family. 'We don't know why he took this step,' Satish said.

Robbers wore raincoats, gloves to hide tracks: Police on Rs 50-lakh heist in East Delhi
Clad in caps and raincoats, switching off the lights after entering the building, putting locks on the door of every house on the premises except that of their target. This is how four men carried out a heist to the tune of Rs 50 lakhs inside a house in East Delhi's Laxmi Nagar on Saturday. The house was empty as the occupants were out to celebrate Raksha Bandhan, the police said. According to the police, the incident happened around 4:30 am on Saturday, when four men entered a residential building in FF block of Laxmi Nagar. The men were wearing mufflers and raincoats to hide their faces, while donning gloves to avoid fingerprint marks, an officer said. The suspects then moved to the first floor of the building, and noticed one locked house with all lights switched off, the officer said. According to the police, the house belonged to Apratim Jaiswal, who along with his wife, were out since Friday, as they had gone to their relative's place to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. Setting their eyes on the target, the men, fearing interruption, proceeded to put locks on all the houses in the building, except Jaiswal's home before breaking inside his house by busting the lock of the main door. Then, the suspects proceeded to rob Rs 1 lakh in cash, and several gold, diamond alongside other jewellery amounting to Rs 40 lakh. After allegedly committing the theft, the men switched off the lights of the building stairs, and fled, police said. The CCTV camera at the building caught their movement, an officer said.
