AYODHYA
: CM Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said that Ayodhya has transitioned into a global symbol of 'Atithi Devo Bhava'. "It was a city where once Ram devotees faced bullets but today they are being welcomed with flowers," he said at a public event in Ram Katha Park.
Highlighting the significance of Pran Pratishtha ceremony held in Ayodhya on Thursday, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said the grand temple of Ram Lalla is a powerful testament to the enduring strength of Sanatan Dharma.
"After a wait of 500 years, the Pran Pratishtha of Shri Ram Lalla was performed with great devotion by PM Modi on Jan 22, 2024. Today, the consecration of the divine idols in the Ram Darbar and
Ram Mandir
has also been accomplished," he said.
'Blessings of revered seers guiding New India'
Mentioning Ayodhya's spiritual and cultural resurgence over the past 10 years, Yogi said it was under PM Modi's leadership that the vision of Viksit Bharat, rooted in Sanatan Dharma, was becoming a reality, with Ayodhya reclaiming the divine aura of the Treta Yuga.
The CM also attended the 87th birthday celebrations of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das at Mani Ram Das Cantonment.
The occasion also coincided with Yogi's birthday on Thursday.
Calling it a privilege to be part of the celebrations, the CM said it was the divine spiritual practices and blessings of revered seers that were guiding the transformative journey of New India. He also highlighted the legacy of the Mani Ram Das Cantonment, saying that it boasted over 300 years of intense spiritual practice.
'From the 18th to the 21st century, this sacred site has been a centre of unwavering devotion.
Legend says that Mata Janaki once appeared in a divine vision to a saint of this tradition, blessing and strengthening its spiritual lineage," he said, crediting Mahant Nritya Gopal Das' leadership for the success of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
Mentioning the redevelopment of pilgrimage centres like Kashi Vishwanath, Mahakaal, Kedarpuri, and Somnath, Yogi said these temples served as the spiritual pillars of a new, empowered India, which was emerging from the roots of Sanatan traditions.
Describing the changes being implemented in Ayodhya, Yogi highlighted the efforts to develop it as the country's first solar city. "The once stagnant waters at Ram Ki Paidi now flow clean and pure, capable of accommodating over 5 lakh devotees for a holy dip.
A new stretch of ghats, from Naya Ghat to Guptar Ghat, has been developed to enhance the pilgrim experience," the CM said.
Highlighting the significance of Ganga Dussehra and World Environment Day celebrated on Thursday, the CM said it had deep spiritual and environmental significance.
"It is on this auspicious day, through the penance of Maharaj Bhagirath, that the river Ganga descended to Earth. Ma Ganga is a symbol of devotion and liberation, she is the lifeline of our spiritual heritage," he said.
Among other projects to develop Ayodhya as a global spiritual and cultural hub, the CM highlighted an international airport in the name of Maharishi Valmiki, a community kitchen named after Mata Shabari, a pilgrim guest house named in honour of Nishadraj, and temples dedicated to Maharishi Vashishtha, Vishwamitra, and Tulsidas.
Referring to the installation of a statue of the Vulture King Jatayu in the temple complex, the CM said that vultures were a species critical to ecological balance but were facing extinction due to food scarcity and environmental degradation. "They serve a vital role in nature and are beneficial to humanity. Jatayu, who valiantly fought Ravan during the abduction of Mata Sita, is a symbol of ultimate sacrifice and courage.
That is why his magnificent statue now stands at the Ram Janmabhoomi," he said.

Will Yogi govt's Agniveer quota in police jobs boost BJP's nationalistic appeal?

Uttar Pradesh is now the first state to offer 20 per cent horizontal reservation to former Agniveers in police recruitment, a move the BJP government says fulfils its promise to reintegrate trained military youth into mainstream Yogi Adityanath cabinet earlier this week cleared the proposal, extending the reservation to posts such as police constable, PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) personnel, mounted constable and fireman. The government says this aims to provide career opportunities to former Agniveers while bolstering the state's security forces with well-trained and motivated finance minister Suresh Kumar Khanna stated that the primary objective was to ensure meaningful post-service employment for Agniveers who complete their four-year tenure under the military's Agnipath scheme. He said the reservation will be applicable across all categories (General, SC, ST and OBC) within their respective groups. For example, an Agniveer from SC category will get the benefit within the same category, and so also announced that former Agniveers applying for these posts will be eligible for a three-year age relaxation. The first batch of recruitments is expected to be initiated in 2026, coinciding with the return of the first batch of Agniveers. The Agnipath scheme, introduced by the central government in 2022, allows youth to serve in the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy as Agniveers for a period of four years. The scheme includes six months of training; upon completion, 25 per cent of Agniveers are inducted into regular service based on performance while the remaining 75 per cent are encouraged to pursue other career a welfare measure, the decision also appears to be a calculated step to reinforce political credibility, manage public sentiment and respond to national security narratives, particularly in the context of recent tensions with Pakistan. It could also be seen as the government fulfilling its promise, as chief minister Yogi Adityanath had assured priority for Agniveers in the state police and PAC at the launch of the Agnipath scheme in 2022. This decision fulfils that timing of the announcement, amidst rising border tensions and a surge in nationalist sentiment, is equally crucial. The Agnipath scheme, despite Opposition protests over its short-term nature and lack of guaranteed post-service opportunities, was positioned by the Centre as a patriotic initiative to rejuvenate the armed integrating trained Agniveers into the police, the UP government signals alignment with this nationalistic vision, a stance that resonates deeply with the BJP's core voter base. The move also helps tackle the longstanding challenge of unemployment among the youth. UP's 20 percent reservation, higher than other states like Haryana and Odisha (10 per cent), positions it as a leader in supporting the decision allows the BJP to seize control of the narrative around youth welfare and national service. Opposition parties, especially the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, have consistently targeted the BJP on issues like job creation and the Agneepath scheme's perceived flaws. By rolling out one of the most extensive reservation benefits for Agniveers in the country, the UP government seeks to not only neutralise that criticism but set a benchmark, and that too just in time for the assembly elections in to India Today Magazine

Narendra Modi Strives To Realise Deendayal Upadhyaya's Vision

Last Updated: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's fundamental governance philosophy reflects Deendayal Upadhyaya's thought and vision The 60th year of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya's historic lectures that shaped the philosophy of Integral Humanism is being commemorated at a time when a BJP's Prime Minister completes 11 years in office. Narendra Modi may not have met or heard Deendayal Upadhyaya, but he has certainly emerged as one of Upadhyaya's finest exponents, manifesting the latter's aspirations and hopes through his governance vision and action. In the course of a public life that spans more than four decades, Modi must have had the opportunity to mingle with many stalwarts of the movement who were moulded and shaped by Upadhyaya. Upadhyaya, the RSS pracharak, was deputed to the newly formed Jana Sangh, as Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee's understudy in 1951. He went on to shoulder the burden of laying the foundation of the new political party for the next 15 years, emerging as one of the tallest leaders of the Nehruvian and the immediate post-Nehruvian era. Modi, an RSS pracharak, was deputed to the newly formed BJP and for the next three odd decades, toiled for the new party, at various levels, till he scripted and charted out for it a historical course that is altering India's trajectory. Deendayal Upadhyaya established the Jana Sangh as an alternate pole in Indian politics, while Modi has been successful in positioning the BJP as the pre-eminent political party in India in three decades. These three decades were characterised and dominated by coalition politics and unstable governments which were pulled in various directions under the exigencies of political demands and short-term calculations. Absent, during these three decades, was a grand narrative of where India ought to be and of how to reach that position. Narendra Modi has comprehensively altered that. He has drawn a grand narrative sculpted and chiselled by the goal of 'Viksit Bharat" and of 'Amrit Kaal." Throughout Upadhyaya's tenure as general secretary, the Jana Sangh had advocated the necessity of India going nuclear. One of the first major decisions that propelled India to the status of a major nuclear power was Vajpayee's decision to go in for the nuclear tests in May 1998. The flagship 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan', launched by Vajpayee which saw a massive grassroots focus on education especially among the most marginalised, was another governance milestone that manifested Upadhyaya's philosophy and his hopes of empowering and equipping those left out and left behind. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya delivered his four lectures at Mumbai's Ramnarain Ruia College grounds on the philosophy of Ektaama Manava Darsana on April 22-25, 1965. These lectures eventually formed the bed-rock of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and later the BJP's political philosophy and action. It was for the first time that a political party, formed after Independence, discussed, debated and articulated a political philosophy which it sought to embody and express through a political programme. The philosophy spoke of unleashing India's civilisational powers, of making her self-reliant through her own strengths, of seeing her regain her rightful place as 'Viswamitra" (a friend of the world). A power that is benign but not powerless. Upadhyaya spoke of India seeking out her own all-around progress, based on her innate strengths and experiences. This national march towards prosperity, Upadhyaya's philosophical postulates insisted, had to be equitable, no one could be left behind. In Upadhyaya's lectures one discerns the hope of ushering in a Viksit Bharat and a Samriddha Bharat. In his concluding lecture, Deendayal Upadhyaya defined the goal when he said: 'Our goal is not merely to protect the culture but to revitalise it so as to make it dynamic and in tune with times. We must ensure that our nation stands firm on this foundation and our society is enabled to live a healthy, progressive and purposeful life…" Upadhyaya spoke of creating a Bharat, which 'will enable every citizen in its fold to develop his manifold latent potentialities…" Narendra Modi, as Prime Minister, in the last eleven years has been driven by these fundamental governance parameters. PM Modi has harped on collective national prosperity and strength. To realise a healthy and purposeful living has been the key-goals of his governance action. Narendra Modi's vision of 'Garib Kalyan", his governance philosophy of reaching out to the most marginalised, his unceasing emphasis on aatmanirbharta (self-reliance), his uncompromising championing of India's national interest and of her national security, his 'Panchamrit" foreign policy, which is a shift from a powerless and defensive 'Panchsheel"-driven foreign policy, his focus on securing and developing India's borders, his concept of 'Jan Bhagidari", his fulfilling the promise of 'One Nation, One Constitution", his vision of 'Ek Bharat, Sresht Bharat", his emphasis on 'Vikaas aur Viraasat", which means development along with the preservation and dissemination of the fundamentals of our national heritage and inheritance, fundamentally and intrinsically reflect Deendayal Upadhyaya's thought and vision.
