JSW Steel Q1FY26 results: Consolidated net profit jumps 158% to ₹2,184 cr

JSW Steel on Friday reported a 158 per cent year-on-year (YoY) jump in consolidated net profit (attributable to owners of the company) to Rs 2,184 crore for the June quarter of 2025-26 (Q1FY26), driven by higher volumes and lower coking coal costs, a key raw material. In the year-ago period, the company's net profit had stood at Rs 845 crore.
The net profit exceeded the Bloomberg consensus estimate of Rs 2,095 crore.
JSW Steel's total revenues on a consolidated basis for Q1FY26 were Rs 43,147 crore, 0.5 per cent higher than Rs 42,943 crore a year ago. The Bloomberg estimate for revenue was Rs 43,004 crore.
Sequentially, revenue was down 3.7 per cent due to planned maintenance shutdowns, while net profit was up 45.3 per cent. Capacity utilisation at the Indian operations was 87 per cent during the quarter, compared to 93 per cent in Q4FY25.
Steel sales for the quarter stood at 6.69 mt, higher by 9 per cent YoY, driven by higher domestic sales. Domestic sales at 5.96 mt increased by 12 per cent YoY.
However, exports continued to be muted, with a 20 per cent YoY drop. Exports constituted 7 per cent of sales from the Indian operations for Q1FY26.
JSW Steel has outlined a capital expenditure (capex) plan of Rs 20,000 crore for FY26. The consolidated capex spend during Q1FY26 was Rs 3,400 crore.
The company's net debt as of June 30, 2025, stood at Rs 79,850 crore, an increase of Rs 3,287 crore from March 31, 2025. The company said the increase was mainly due to investment in working capital.
In its statement, the company said that the growth outlook for the Indian economy remained robust despite global uncertainties. "Domestic steel demand continues to be good, aided by healthy capex by the government in Q1," it said.
However, it added that while finished steel imports have moderated, exports have fallen as well, and India continues to be a net importer. "Low-priced imports remain a concern, accentuated by changes in global trade flows due to rising tariff uncertainties," the company said.
Among other board decisions was approval for entering into a share purchase option agreement to acquire an additional stake of up to 24.9 per cent in JSW Severfield Structures Limited from its existing joint venture partner, Severfield plc group. The cost of acquiring the additional stake of up to 24.9 per cent would be up to a maximum value of Rs 235.10 crore.
The company also announced that the board had approved the incorporation of a joint venture company between JSW Steel and Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation to set up the Konijedu Marlapadu integrated iron ore project in Andhra Pradesh. The project will mine and beneficiate low-grade iron ore at a cost of Rs 1,075 crore.

Alaska Air Brings Back Annual Profit Outlook on Improved Demand

(Bloomberg) -- Alaska Air Group Inc. provided a new profit outlook for the year following an upturn in demand from business travelers who set aside trips early in the year on concerns over possible tariffs and worsening inflation. Average fares and revenue have improved in recent bookings at both Alaska and its Hawaiian Airlines unit, leading to a 2025 adjusted profit outlook of more than $3.25 a share, the carrier said Wednesday in a statement that also included second-quarter financial results. The airline was among those that pulled annual outlooks in April, after uncertainty stoked by President Donald Trump's tariff policies rattled business and consumer confidence and cratered demand early in the year. Increased business travel — particularly in the tech industry — that started late in the second quarter has persisted this month as companies see more stability in the macroeconomy, Chief Financial Officer Shane Tackett said. 'That's been a good development,' Tackett said in an interview. 'We're optimistic that if it remains, we could have a stronger second half than the first as some demand that stepped down comes back.' The recent pickup in travel is particularly important for Alaska as it continues combining operations with Hawaiian, which it acquired in September. Alaska and other US-focused carriers were more affected by the early drop in demand than rivals including United Airlines Group Inc. and Delta Air Lines Inc. that also have extensive international operations. Alaska will limit flying capacity growth in the second half of the year. The carrier expects third quarter seating to be 1% lower than 2024 on demand that's below its expectations during off-peak travel times. Smaller airlines are broadly expected to slow growth after the summer travel period in an effort to better match demand and boost fares. The airline also said it expects a third-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $1 to $1.40. That is lower than the $1.65 average of analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Wall Street was expecting a 2025 adjusted profit of $3.31 per share. Alaska has taken delivery of two Embraer SA E175 aircraft that it delayed earlier this year on the threat of possible tariffs, Tackett said. The airline is set to receive three more next year and will have to evaluate 'whether or not those assets make economic sense for us' if tariffs force Embraer to increase prices markedly. Embraer's chief executive officer has said punitive tariffs threatened by Trump could add $9 million to the price of each plane. Alaska's adjusted second-quarter profit was $1.78 a share, topping the $1.53 average from analyst estimates. Revenue was $3.7 billion, while analysts were expecting $3.66 billion. India and China have had frequent high-level engagements since Modi's meeting with President Xi Jinping in Kazan last year, following the agreement to complete the disengagement of troops at the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh. The decision to restart tourist visa services for Chinese nationals is the second significant step towards normalisation, after the resumption of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. China will maintain communication and consultation with India to further facilitate travel between the two countries." Chinese foreign minister and special representative (SR) for boundary talks Wang Yi is expected to visit India soon for the next round of SR (special representative) talks with NSA Ajit Doval and, with the thaw in ties holding up, Modi himself is likely to visit China for the SCO summit, to be held Aug 31-Sept 1. In the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination (WMCC) talks on India-China border affairs, according to an Indian readout, the two sides agreed to maintain regular exchanges and contacts on issues related to the boundary affairs at the diplomatic and military levels through established mechanisms. The focus was also on the upcoming SR talks for which Wang will be in India. "The two sides also prepared for the next round of Special Representatives' talks on the India-China boundary question to be held in India later this year," the Indian readout said. Doval had travelled to China for the last round of SR boundary talks in Dec 2024. Real estate fraud: Absconding promoters of Universal Buildwell arrested

1 2 Chandigarh: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Gurugram Zonal Office, on Wednesday claimed to have arrested Raman Puri, Varun Puri and Vikram Puri – promoters and former directors of M/s Universal Buildwell Pvt Ltd – under the prevention of Money Laundering Act in a case related to alleged real estate fraud. The arrested accused, apprehended Tuesday night, were absconding for more than seven years and were declared proclaimed offenders by various courts in predicate matters. They were apprehended by the Delhi Police. The special PMLA court in Gurugram on Wednesday remanded the trio into ED custody until July 29. The ED had initiated an investigation into the case based on more than 30 FIRs registered under various sections of the IPC across Delhi NCR against M/s Universal Buildwell Pvt Ltd, Raman Puri, Vikram Puri, and Varun Puri for failing to complete real estate projects on time and cheating the homebuyers/investors of their hard-earned money. The company was taken to the CIRP (Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process), which resulted in a resolution plan for homebuyers/other financial contributors being accepted and NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) ordering some assets to be delivered to the homebuyers, who were the financial creditors, and the remaining assets to be liquidated. Most of the homebuyers had invested in the project before 2010. The case stems from the fraudulent mobilisation of homebuyers/investors' funds by the accused persons through Universal Buildwell Pvt Ltd, based on false promises of completing the project by 2010 and also promising assured returns in commercial projects. The arrested persons are also accused of cheating various financial institutions through forgery and fraud. They reportedly transferred some assets at negligible rates, oversold existing inventory, and executed forged agreements for their personal benefits. In this matter, data collected from the resolution professional revealed that the company, through their accused promoters, collected more than Rs 1,000 crore over 12 years on eight different projects in Gurugram and Faridabad, namely Universal Trade Tower, Universal Greens, Universal Business Park, Aura, Universal Square, Market Square, The Pavilion, and Universal Prime. They allegedly utilised only part of the funds for development and siphoned off the funds to acquire lands and other assets for their personal gains through criminal misappropriation, cheating, forgery, and fraud.
