Hyderabad: Among dishonest government officials in a loop, it pays to keep money taps open. And, those having money taps are often powerful enough to stave off a transfer or simply ignore it! This explains how N Sridhar, an official of the Irrigation Department, arrested recently in a disproportionate assets case, managed to stay in the same location and position for over one year despite his transfer and even got his superiors to support him in the department by devious means.
During investigations following the arrest of Sridhar in DA case, the Anti-Corruption Bureau stumbled upon the role of top irrigation officials in supporting him to continue in the same post, defying transfer orders issued by the Irrigation Secretary last year.
Engineer-in– chief (General) G Anil Kumar is suspected to have helped Sridhar by quietly not relieving from the post.
Officials said that state Irrigation Secretary Rahul Bojja issued orders to Sridhar, who was working as Executive Engineer (EE) in Choppadani in Karimnagar district, asking him to report to the head office on June 27 last year. The official did not report but managed to continue in the post and in the same location without any communication to the head office for the last one year.
Aghast at this finding, the ACB, which arrested the irrigation official in a DA assets case last week, sought additional details with evidence from the higher authorities.
Upon enquiries, the agency received information that Sridhar had been maintaining close relations with some top officials in the head office of the irrigation wing and thus managed to continue in the same post. 'The role of Anil Kumar in supporting Sridhar and other officials is under investigation. The ACB will summon the ENC and other top officials once the agency gets adequate evidence about the links between these officials,' sources said. It was pointed out that Anil had stopped the transfer of Sridhar and managed it secretly without involving the Secretary. Taking serious note of it, the ACB officials decided to question Sridhar, presently in Chanchalguda jail, to ferret out details of his relations with his superiors in the Irrigation wing. The role of top officials in supporting the corrupt engineer to amass a staggering wealth of more than Rs 200 crore would be probed before proceeding against all others who are believed to be involved in the entire episode, sources told The Hans India.

Mumbai man loses Rs 1cr in fake 3BHK deal

Mumbai: The police arrested a 36-year-old man from Badlapur for allegedly luring a 46-year-old western suburbs resident into buying a 3BHK flat in Dadar and cheating him of Rs 1.07 crore. The deal for the flat was finalised through emails and phone calls only. In 215 transactions, the complainant sent money to the accused to buy the flat without even seeing the flat, site, or the seller. Six years later, he learned he was taken for a ride. A west region cyber crime police station team, led by senior inspector Suvarna Shinde and assistant inspector Dr Nitin Gacche, is probing the case. The crime occurred between Nov 2018 and Nov 2024. The complainant wanted to buy a house in Mumbai and saw an advertisement on Facebook about cheap flats available in Andheri, Bandra, Borivli, Dadar, etc. He contacted the email ID given in the advertisement and began communicating. The accused sent him a form and asked him to fill in his details for booking the flat. Once the complainant, who works in a private company, submitted the form, he received an email saying his file was 'approved' and one Vishal Panchal was appointed as his relationship manager. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Later, he got a call from one Virendra Mehta, who claimed to be the director of the project, 'Aap ka Apna Ghar,' and told the complainant that his flat had been allotted. Panchal asked the complainant to pay Rs 50,000 for registration. The complainant paid the money. Later, Panchal contacted him through different mobile numbers and email IDs and asked him to pay money for Mhada approval, BMC NOC, Mantralaya clearance, etc. The complainant got a call from a person who said he was a BMC ward officer, Deepak, and demanded Rs 10 lakh to approve his file. The amount was brought down to Rs five lakh, which the complainant sent to an account given by the accused. When Panchal again demanded Rs five lakh, the complainant didn't have money and asked a friend to give him a loan. The friend told him he was duped, and an FIR was registered on June 3. Gacche and staff Sangram Jadhav, Mayur Ingale, and Suresh Lokre arrested the accused, Saiyyam Devmani Pandey. "It was Pandey who posed as Deepak, Panchal, and Mehta," said a police source. Police said there were around 500 to 600 email exchanges between the accused and complainant about the flat. Pandey has an Instagram page and poses as an online astrologer over it. He told police he splurged money on flight tickets for Meghalaya, Shillong, Chandigarh, Goa, etc., and stayed in hotels. Pandey, who studied up to class X, is the son of a doctor.

Religious structure with bathtub inside, and other buildings: Why Jamnagar administration is clearing ‘encroachments' along Rangmati river

On Sunday, a video of a bathtub inside a religious structure in Jamnagar went viral on social media. Built on the banks of river Rangmati, the structure is among several others demolished by the Jamnagar police on Saturday as part of an ongoing anti-encroachment drive. On Sunday, police said, they cleared 71,933.5 square metres of encroached land on both banks of the river in an area known as Bachu Nagar, located at the heart of the city. 'There are all sorts of residential, commercial and religious encroachments here, totalling more than 600 structures. While we cleared 294 structures yesterday (June 14), in total, we have cleared about 400 till now,' said Jamnagar Superintendent of Police (SP) Premsukh Delu on Sunday, adding that the drive is being conducted in a phase-wise manner. The local administration has cited severe flooding, alleged encroachment by what they termed as miscreants, and plans for a riverfront development project, to rationalise the demolitions underway on Rangmati banks, one of the two rivers that flow through Jamnagar, the other being Nagmati. The Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) told the police that the valuation of the encroached land stood at approximately Rs 193.57 crore. Talking about the religious structure, the largest that the JMC and the police have cleared till now, Delu said, 'This particular religious structure was built like a fort and the inside was like a maze. The premises were large and built over 11,000 square feet (1,021 sq metres). There were several rooms and a bathtub inside. Outside the room, there was a warning that entry is restricted and allowed only by permission.' Detailing on who took the action, Delu said, 'It is a joint action by the JMC and the District Police. Apart from illegal homes of miscreants on our list, the civic body is also working on its pre-monsoon plan. There are plans to develop this area into a riverfront as well.' Delu stated that encroachments are located mainly outside the walled city of Jamnagar, on the river banks. 'Because of this, the river used to extend right up to the walls, causing the encroachments to enter deep into the river bed,' he added. SP Delu said that Jamnagar city has regularly been facing a problem of severe flooding. 'The CM's (Bhupendra Patel) first visit after assuming office was to Jamnagar due to the floods. Last year (2024), again there were floods. The encroachment on the river is the reason why this problem was exacerbated,' the SP added.
