Report: Fighter Released After UFC 317 Weight Miss Gets DWCS Booking

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JUNE 28: A general view of the Octagon during the UFC 317 event at T-Mobile ... More Arena on June 28, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Christopher Ewert had a rollercoaster ride of a fight week. The UFC brought Ewert in to serve as a late-replacement opponent opposite Jackson McVey on the UFC 317 fight card. However, Ewert was released by the promotion during the official weigh-ins for the event, with the UFC commentary team announcing that the fight was off after Ewert was 10 pounds heavy for the middleweight matchup. While Ewert might not be a member of the UFC roster any longer, he will still reportedly get a chance to earn a UFC roster spot through the Dana White's Contender Series. 'People don't understand how much we tried and we started the cut at 216,' Ewert's coach Javier Torres told MMA Fighting after Ewert had been released. 'When we got to Vegas, we checked in at 216 pounds. [Friday] '[Our] flight was leaving from Phoenix 8:30 a.m., [and got] delayed until 11:05 a.m. and we got to Vegas 1 p.m. We did bunch of media, pictures, obligations for UFC. We [had] a small window from 4-6 pm, [so] we did a small cut — a 30-minute run, pad, mitts, sauna, [and] mummy.' 'We told our business partner [we wanted]'[Mick Maynard, our business partner] and I [talked] at 4 a.m., I told him what was happening. Chris started getting cramps, small ones. 'I let him rest, he couldn't sleep for shit. We checked his weight at 6:45 a.m., then we started [the cut again] at 7:15 — run and pads with the sauna suit on, and we got in the sauna and we did the mummy with sauna suit on. And we did this process again until 9:30 am. 'We did try super (expletive) hard. We cut 22 pounds from Wednesday to Friday morning.' Ewert got the call for UFC 317 when McVey's opponent Sedriques Dumas was forced from the card. However, on Sunday, Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPNDeportes reported that Ewert, who was scheduled to compete on the upcoming season of Dana White's Contender Series would remain on the schedule for an appearance on the August 12 edition of the DWCS against Yuri Panferov. As for Ewert's scheduled opponent for UFC 317, McVey, he weighed in at 185 pounds for the canceled bout. Forbes reached out to the UFC for confirmation on Legaspi's report. Ewert is 7-0 as a pro with five knockout wins and two victories via decision. His most recent fight came in January when he defeated Reese Watkins via unanimous decision on a Fury Fighting Championship card.

Terrance McKinney not satisfied with 55-second finish after UFC 317

LAS VEGAS – Terrance McKinney met with MMA Junkie and other media members Saturday after his win over Viacheslav Borshchev at UFC 317. McKinney (17-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) needed just 55 seconds to submit Borshchev (8-6-1 MMA, 3-5-1 UFC) with a mounted guillotine choke on the prelims at T-Mobile Arena. The 30-year-old lightweight has all 17 of his wins by stoppage, including 16 in the first round. Of those, eight have come in less than a minute – including Saturday's masterpiece. Still, McKinney said he wasn't satisfied with the performance. 'My job's not done,' McKinney said at his post-fight news conference. 'I didn't start this just to participate or get a couple in the UFC. We're looking to get the belt. I just want to get back to it and just keep developing myself as a martial artist. '(Me growing as a fighter) is knowing this is a fight – anything can happen, and just knowing I'm competing with the highest level people in the world. (I'm) just staying humble and knowing it could flip any time – so I'm making sure I don't get too high on it.' McKinney has won four of his past five fights in an average time of about 70 seconds each. Check out McKinney's post-fight interview in the video above.

Fluminense gets early goal from Germán Cano to knock out Inter Milan in Club World Cup Round of 16

Associated Press CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Germán Cano scored on a header three minutes into the match, and Fluminense held on to defeat Champions League finalist Inter Milan 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup in front of a sparce crowd at Bank of America Stadium on Monday. The Brazilians move on to face the Manchester City-Al Halil winner on Friday in Orlando, Florida. Almost before both teams were able to break a sweat in the 90-degrees Fahrenheit heat, Jhon Arias sent a slightly deflected crossing pass from the right corner that Cano headed into the net for a 1-0 lead. The Brazilians appeared to add to their lead late in the first half, but Ignacio's header into the net was waived off due to being offside. Hercules added a late wide open goal in stoppage time for the final 2-0 margin. Milan controlled the time of possession throughout the match and certainly had its chances, but couldn't will the ball into the net. It was one bad bounce after another. As the match was winding down Fluminense players jumped up and down on the sideline. That celebration carried over to the field after the match, where they hopped up and down in unison in a huddle, their arms wrapped around each other. Key moment Lautaro Martinez had a point-blank shot in the second half to tie the game, but the ball hit off the upright. He couldn't believe his bad luck and shook his head in disbelief. Takeaways Fluminense played more poised throughout the match and became the second Brazilian club team to reach the quarterfinals, joining Palmeiras. Noteworthy The match was not well attended. Stadium officials invited patrons from the upper deck to come sit down in the lower deck, which was still half empty. ___ AP soccer: recommended
