Audi 'wrecked' after hitting pothole in Glasgow as driver left with £350 repair bill
Richard Craig was driving along the Clydeside Expressway when he felt the bump under his car.
An expensive Audi Q2 has been "wrecked" after allegedly hitting a pothole in Glasgow with the driver now left having to pay £350 on repairs.
Richard Craig, 41, claims he was driving along the Clydeside Expressway, heading towards Anniesland industrial estate, when he felt a bump on Friday morning, April 11. He knew he had hit a pothole, but "didn't know how bad it was."
He eventually stopped at the BP petrol station on Crow Road, in the Jordanhill area and got out the car to inspect the damage. It was then Richard noticed the left passenger-side tyre "hanging off," reports Glasgow Live.
He explained: "I was driving along the Expressway as normal. Then I thought 'whoa, what was that?' I knew I had gone through a pothole but didn't know exactly how bad it was.
"When I pulled over, that's when I saw the tyre was wrecked. Luckily, the alloy was okay but there was damage around the wheel arch and bits underneath my car as well - it's an expensive car."
Richard was forced to abandon his car at the petrol station and ran all the way to his work to avoid being late. During his shift, he had called for help and claimed to have spent £100 to get the tyre fixed the same day.
However, he argued the bodywork has also been damaged which is costing him another £250 to repair.
He added: "If I drove for another three or four minutes, my alloy would have been destroyed and that isn't cheap.
"Frankly, I am hacked off because it's cost me a lot of money and I like to keep my car nice and good. I was anxious that my car might be more damaged than it was, thankfully it wasn't.
"I'm not happy with Glasgow City Council but I am not really surprised because the number of bad potholes in Glasgow are ridiculous. It is shocking. Just before you go into the Anniesland industrial estate, there are craters.
"Just be careful and check your tyres before you leave the house."
Glasgow City Council were approached for comment.

Research by Scottish Labour found that between 2019 and 2023 the number of insurance claims to councils citing poor road maintenance rose by 69 per cent.
Eight local authority areas have seen claims from drivers more than double, while four have seen claims more than triple.
In Glasgow, 2,135 insurance claims were lodged to the City Council citing poor roads maintenance in 2023 - an increase of 97 per cent on the total in 2019.
The number of claims in Edinburgh increased from 221 to 669 in the same period.
During the five year period, more than 27,000 insurance claims were sent to town halls from drivers suffering vehicle damage as a result of poor road maintenance.

Car catches fire on busy Scots motorway as emergency crews race to scene
Parts of the motorway are closed or restricted due to the incident. A car has caught fire on a major Scots motorway, leaving part of it closed off. The horror incident happened just before 12.30pm on Sunday, June 15, on the M8 in Lanarkshire. The westbound off-slip for junction six at Newhouse has been shut to allow firefighters to extinguish the blaze. One lane of the motorway has also been "restricted" on approach. Police and paramedics were also dispatched to the scene, but it is not yet known whether anybody has been injured. Shocking footage shared with our sister title Glasgow Live shows firefighters battling the blaze, with thick grey smoke billowing from the vehicle. Kimberley Collins, who witnessed the fire, said: "When we were travelling, from Glasgow to Edinburgh, we could see smoke and we weren't sure what side of the motorway it was coming from. "As we got closer the smoke was getting thicker and the cars were starting to slow down, traffic began to build up. "Shortly after, two police cars formed a rolling road block on the westbound carriageway where the burning car was. As we continued driving another fire engine and road recovery truck passed us on the westbound carriageway. "Not every day you see something like that! BBC Antiques Roadshow guest speechless as £1 vase bought at boot sale makes staggering value

More info Antiques Roadshow's Eric Knowles was left gobsmacked when a glass vase, purchased for a mere £1 at a car boot sale, was valued at an astonishing amount. A woman from Ayrshire, who wished to remain anonymous, brought the vase to the BBC show for evaluation, not anticipating the staggering valuation she would receive. The vase was identified as a 1929 piece by famed French designer René Lalique, after being scrutinised by experts at Dumfries House near Cumnock, and was valued at a minimum of £25,000. The five-inch-tall glass vase was crafted using an ancient technique known as cire perdue. This complex method involves creating a wax model that is encased in plaster, then melted away and replaced with molten glass, with the plaster mould being broken away once the glass cools to reveal the final creation. The market value for Lalique pieces has seen a significant increase in recent years. Antiques Roadshow expert Eric Knowles shared his excitement with the Irvine Herald: "It's wonderful to find treasures like this beautiful vase during the programme's filming," reports the Express. I've been waiting over 25 years for such a piece to come in, and this was the stuff of dreams. They'd dumped it in the attic after the plant in it died and were about to throw it away. We had a lot of clouds in Dumfries, but this was the cloud with a silver lining. It's worth at least £25,000." The vase ultimately fetched a whopping £32,450 at auction, exceeding its previous valuation by £7,000. This follows a rerun of the beloved BBC programme, which aired on Sunday, June 8. Viewers were transported to Brodie Castle in Scotland, where a parade of treasures awaited appraisal. Among them was a man who wowed Richard with a 1960s Rolex GMT-Master, inherited from his uncle. Richard, peering intently at the watch, informed the owner: "All Rolex collectors refer to these things by their reference number," and "You know as well as I do, because it says so on the dial, that it's a GMT-Master." (Image: BBC) Richard explained: "It's the reference 1675, which is the classic GMT-Master. When you said 60s, I think we could fairly safely say 1960 to 1961, so that all fits in." Upon closer inspection, Richard was thrilled to find the watch unaltered, noting that many watches are often modified during servicing, much to collectors' dismay. He said: "They would've changed the bezel and they would've changed the dial with an upgrade," before adding:"You would've had it back thinking, 'Oh, it looks like new'. Collectors hate that, it's absolutely original, spot-on." The expert told the owner: "It's a Rolex product, of course, but it says 'Made in the USA'. So perhaps he specified that he did not want the oyster bracelet; he wanted a jubilee bracelet, and they put this one on for him. "Which sort of detracts from it a little bit, probably detracts from it by a couple of thousand pounds." Warning as Glasgow's M8 junction roadworks delayed
The work was due to be completed, and the junction reopened on Monday, June 9. However, they're now set to be in place until later in the month. The off-slip at Junction 18 leading to St George's Road will stay closed until Wednesday, June 18. It's part of phase 2 of the works for the 'Connecting Woodside' project, and the busy junction was originally set to be closed from May 12 to June 9, 2025. A council roads spokesperson said: "Due to unforeseen ground conditions, the closure of the Junction 18 M8 Eastbound off slip leading to the A804 St George's Road (Phase 2) works have been delayed. "Completion is now expected by Wednesday, June 18, 2025." "These works will see the creation of new public realm spaces, street space enhancements, tree planting and segregated active travel facilities. "Further details on these works along with the design drawings can be accessed here.
