Shah Rukh Khan was thrown off a bike after Swades co-star crashed it; SRK took the blame to protect him from Ashutosh Gowariker
In December 2001, Shah Rukh Khan injured his back while shooting an action sequence for Krishna Vamsi's film Shakti: The Power. He was then diagnosed with prolapsed disc. After trying multiple alternative therapies, he finally opted for an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion surgery which had a disc (the size of a small coin) inserted in his spine. Around this time, he was also shooting for Ashutosh Gowarikar's Swades. In a recent interview, SRK's Swades co-actor Daya Shankar Panday recalled a near-fatal accident that involved the star and convinced Daya that his career was over.
Talking to Friday Talkies, Daya Shankar shared, 'There is a scene where I ride the bike in the film with Shah Rukh Khan sitting on the back. The reality is that I am not a great rider, but Ashutosh wanted me to ride the bike. Because I didn't know how to, I suggested that I could sit in the back and SRK could ride it. Ashutosh refused and demanded that I ride it. He said, 'SRK in the film is a US return, he won't know the village, so you have to show it to him.' Ashutosh, on set, is like Hitler. I then finally told him that I haven't ridden a bike for a very long time, and he said, 'No, I know you will manage it. You have no option.''
After the argument, Daya Shankar was preparing for the scene and practicing by riding through the village streets. 'SRK, who was sitting right there, watched me and I don't know whether it was evident on my face or it was just a random thought, he called me by my character's name and asked, 'Mela Ram, will you be able to ride?' I said, 'Yes'. He then asked me to give him a ride'

A nervous Daya Shankar pressed the clutch, put the bike in first gear, and accelerated. 'You won't believe it, the bike actually went up in the air and threw SRK on the ground. I had left the bike and I was shivering in fear. I was convinced that this was end of my career. The whole environment on set changed.'
He recalled, 'This was the same time when Shah Rukh Khan was suffering from severe back pain. So much that he had a physio on set. I am looking at him but I was so scared that I couldn't even give him a hand to stand up. He then stood up, walked up to me and kept his hand on my shoulder. He quietly said, 'I knew you didn't know how to ride a bike.' He quickly turned towards Ashutosh and said, 'Ashu, lets take the shot'. Ashutosh gave me a death stare when Shah Rukh stopped him, and said, 'What are you looking at? It was my fault. I disbalanced it.''

The Telugu version did slightly better at 14.17 percent but still fell short of expectations for a pan-India its star-studded cast including Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, and Ali Fazal, the film has struggled to build momentum beyond its core Tamil audience.'Thug Life' still has a long way to go to regain its momentum at the box office. Housefull 5 box office collection day 1: Akshay Kumar-starrer film makes more money than Sky Force and Kesari 2 together, earns Rs 23 cr
Housefull 5 box office collection day 1: After his failed attempts with action thriller Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, biopics Sarfira and Sky Force, and period drama Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay Kumar has returned to comedy drama with the fifth installment of his famous franchise Housefull. The much-awaited film released with two endings Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B on Friday. The films are identical for over two hours, but the climax of both films is different. While this is being promoted as new marketing strategy to get viewers to buy two or more tickets, it seems unlikely that this will benefit the film as it has has opened to mixed reviews. On its opening day, Housefull made Rs 23 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Despite the film's ensemble cast Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Chunky Panday, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet and new additions Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Dutt, the film witnessed an overall occupancy of just 28% for its first version and about 16% for its second version. Housefull 5A had over 4000 shows across India, and Housefull 5B had over 2900 shows, taking the total to over 7000 shows. Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 has recorded the highest opening compared to his other releases this year. Sky Force, his first release of the year, opened at Rs 12.25 crore and went on to make Rs 112 crore. His second release, Kesari Chapter 2, started its box office journey with around Rs 7 crore, and ended up making around Rs 92 crore. Since they were both made with significantly higher budgets, they could not be classified as box office hits. It remains to be seen if Housefull 5 can retain the promise it showed on its opening day. The film, written and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, is directed by Tarun Mansukhani.

Munawar Faruqui; PC: Tejas Kudtarkar In Junagadh, a young Munawar Faruqui would eagerly await Eid —not just for the celebrations, but for the joy of receiving Eidi from his elders and donning new clothes. Years later, now settled in a posh Mumbai apartment, Munawar's excitement for Eid remains just as vibrant, though the roles have beautifully reversed—he's now the one giving Eidi. As the nation comes alive with festivities, the former Bigg Boss winner sits down with Bombay Times to share his heartfelt reflections on Eid, family, and the traditions that continue to shape his life. 'Eid is the number one festival for me' Eid, for Munawar, is much more than a festival—it's the pinnacle of celebration, a time to bond with family and spread happiness. 'Eid is the most celebrated festival and the number one festival for me. Eid for me is always with the family and distributing food,' Munawar tells us. As a child, Eidi was a treasured part of Eid, a moment to feel valued and excited about new beginnings. 'We would look forward to Eidi which will range from one rupee to ten. And the uncle who would give us ten rupees would be revered the most (laughs). We would aim to collect at least Rs 100-120. All the boys would wear new clothes, and then go to a mela near our village. The next day we would collect more money and go to a waterpark. So, it used to be a two-day festivity. And those were some of the most beautiful days, where we would just be happy,' Munawar recalls. Now, Munawar experiences the joy from the other side of tradition—giving Eidi and spreading happiness himself. 'The tables have turned,' he says, adding, 'And it is beautiful. I feel very blessed that I am able to help or give people Eidi. Eidi is not a few bucks, but it is happiness. Whenever I give Eidi to the younger ones, I see myself in them. It would take me back to my young days.' The festival is also a reminder to be grateful. Munawar, who started his career as a standup comedian, admits he has a lot to be grateful about. 'When I used to go school, I would hop on a friend's cycle. Once his mother taunted me, and since then I started walking to the school. I used to pray to God that I just need a cycle. I would pray that I just need a cycle and I don't want anything else. And when my cycle got repaired, I used to feel I have everything. I was happy with just a cycle, so now everything is a bonus. I am the happiest. I often I sit in my apartment, and it clicks me where I am; I admire everything about life,' the Malaal singer shares. 'Eid ki biryani ka swaad hi alag hai' Munawar Faruqui; PC: Tejas Kudtarkar While Munawar claims he can make anything, and loves cooking, he avoids making anything on Eid. 'I don't experiment on Eid,' he quips. He adds, 'I love eating biryani any day, anywhere. But the biryani that is made on Eid is different. Eid ki biryani ka swaad alag hai, when you eat with your family and it is made in such large portions. I love Sheer khurma, but I prefer it when it is a day old as the mile gets thicker. So, my wife makes fresh Sheer khurma just the way I like it. She keeps the consistency exactly the way I prefer.' 'It was important for both of us to meet at the right time' This is Munawar's second Eid with his wife – makeup artist Mehzabeen Coatwala. Munawar praises his wife's role in organizing Eid, especially taking care of the shopping. 'My wife has taken care of that department really very well of shopping. She is very organized. She takes care of herself and the kids,' he mentions. As the family of four – the two have two children – celebrates Eid this year, Munawar states, 'We were together last year together. And it feels special now. Last two years, I would go to my sister's place for Eid. But this time everyone is going to come to my place for Eid. Now my family is here. So, forty people will be here and we will throw a dawaat.' Talking about finding his true companion, Munawar states it is all about the timing. 'There comes a time, when you get better with relationships, and understanding people. You aren't immature anymore; you don't look for relationships that you aren't sure where they will take you. So, with time, age, and experience, you understand what a life partner is and how important they are. It was important for both of us to meet at the right time. Also, to find your destination, you need to go through the journey. Sometimes the journey can be beautiful, and sometimes it can be bad. However, even the bad ones turn out to be beautiful. Some people find their destination sooner and some later. Hume thoda waqt laga but it is a good ending.
