Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw's ‘Adults' Sets FX Premiere Date

Yahoo08-04-2025

Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw's 'Adults' has set a May 28 premiere date on FX.
The half-hour comedy series, which stars Malik Elassal as Samir, Lucy Freyer as Billie, Jack Innanen as Paul Baker, Amita Rao as Issa and Owen Thiele as Anton, follows a group of twenty-somethings in New York trying to be good people, despite being neither 'good' nor 'people' just yet. The five friends crash together in Samir's childhood home, where they share their meals, anxieties and, occasionally, toothbrushes.
The show puts a slightly heightened twist on the wins, losses and humiliations of starting out in the adult world. Whether they're trying to get ahead at work, navigating the healthcare system, hosting a dinner party or dating in the age of Find My Friends, the group is finding that nothing about the real world is simple, and all their best intentions tend to make things worse.
Guest stars will include Charlie Cox, Julia Fox, D'Arcy Carden, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, John Reynolds and Ray Nicholson.
The project, which was initially titled 'Snowflakes,' first received a pilot order in January 2024 and would go on to be given a series order in July.
In addition to Kronengold and Shaw, executive producers on 'Adults' include Nick Kroll ('Big Mouth,' 'The League'), Stefani Robinson ('Atlanta,' 'What We Do in the Shadows'), Sarah Naftalis ('What We Do in the Shadows') and Jonathan Krisel ('Baskets,' 'English Teacher'). Alicia Van Couvering ('Tiny Furniture,' 'Drinking Buddies') also serves as an executive producer under Kroll's Good At Business banner. 'Adults' is produced by FX Productions.
The first two episodes will drop May 28 at 9 p.m. ET on FX, with two new episodes dropping every Wednesday for the following three weeks. The entire eight-episode season will also be available next day on Hulu and FX On Demand.

Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo June 4 (UPI) -- Singer and actress Teyana Taylor is back with her first single in five years. She released the song "Long Time" and its music video Wednesday. "I kept you inspired, I lent you my fire," she sings in the visual, wearing a red-splotched white gown. "You let me get tired." LaKeith Stanfield plays her husband in the video, while Aaron Pierre portrays an apparent detective. The song describes the singer's realization that she should have left her relationship a long time ago. "Long Time" will appear on the music artist's upcoming visual album, Escape Room, due in August. "Wow, it's really happening y'all," Taylor wrote in an Instagram post celebrating the new music. "It's been a long time coming... I'm here debuting new music." Taylor is also set to star opposite Taraji P. Henson in Tyler Perry's Straw, which premieres Friday. She will also star alongside Kim Kardashian and Naomi Watts in All's Fair, a series arriving on Hulu later in 2025.

Streaming platforms scale back Pride Month messaging

Most major streaming services have yet to highlight Pride Month shows and movies this year. Why it matters: The move reflects growing corporate caution amid rising backlash against diversity and inclusion efforts. State of play: Hulu and Peacock are the only platforms with a featured banner or list of titles on their homepages dedicated to the month that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. So far, Netflix, HBO Max and Apple TV+ are the only streamers to join Hulu and Peacock in acknowledging Pride on social media. Between the lines: Every major streamer has a folder of titles (most are called "collections") dedicated to shows and movies with queer themes and storylines year-round. Each user's viewing habits play a part in where the algorithm places the folder, even this month, if it's on the homepage at all. Paramount+ and Tubi representatives told Axios they have social posts planned for Pride. All major platforms have posted about Pride Month on social media in previous years. Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+ did not return Axios' request for comment on this story.

Ridley Scott Says He's 'Done Enough' With Alien but Hopes for the Franchise's Future — GeekTyrant

Ridley Scott, the mastermind behind the original Alien , has officially made it clear that he's done with the franchise. After years of shaping the iconic sci-fi universe, Scott's focus now shifts to what lies ahead for the franchise, just not with him behind the director's chair. The 87-year-old filmmaker recently shared his thoughts with ScreenRant, confirming that, while he's still invested in the Alien universe, he's 'done enough' with the series and won't be returning to direct another installment. Reflecting on the Alien franchise's evolution, Scott admitted that after Alien Resurrection (1997), the series lost its spark. "I think I felt it was deadened after 4. I think mine was pretty damn good, and I think [James Cameron's] was good, and I have to say the rest were not very good. And I thought, 'F—, that's the end of a franchise which should be as important as bloody Star Trek or Star Wars,' which I think is phenomenal." Scott even drew a comparison to 2001: A Space Odyssey , acknowledging the monumental significance of the first Alien movie in shaping the sci-fi genre. It's hard to believe now, but when Scott took on Alien back in 1979, it wasn't a guaranteed hit. The studio wasn't even keen on having him direct. "A number of years after, I said, 'I'm going to resurrect this,' [and wrote] Prometheus from scratch—a blank sheet of paper. Damon Lindelof and I hammered out Prometheus. It was very present and very welcome. The audience really wanted more.' This revival continued with Alien: Covenant (2017), which Scott also helmed, though he now feels that he's done all he can for the franchise. So what does Scott hope for the future of Alien? Though he won't be back to direct, his hopes remain high for the direction the series will take. 'Where it's going now, I think I've done enough, and I just hope it goes further.' With the reaction that Alien: Romulus got, which he produced, it seems the series is still generating real excitement again. Fans have even more to look forward to with the upcoming streaming series Alien: Earth , which premieres on Hulu on August 12th. Scott is an executive producer on the series. While there were earlier reports suggesting Scott might develop another prequel movie, his recent comments leave us uncertain about the project's status. Whether it's scrapped or merely not in his directorial future, Scott's remarks suggest the direction of the franchise will now be in the hands of others.
