Himanta hands over job letters to 481 candidates
Guwahati: Assam chief minister
on Thursday distributed appointment letters to 481 candidates in the animal husbandry and veterinary, tourism, and education departments.
About another 40,000 appointments in the offing and will be distributed in a single recruitment drive scheduled for Oct 10.

With the inclusion of these 481 appointments, the total number of govt jobs secured under the present administration now stands at 1,20,840.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarma expressed confidence that the state govt is well on course to reach a total of 1.60 lakh appointments by 10 Oct and emphasised that the transparent nature of this recruitment process has not only upheld merit, but also played a vital role in fostering a more robust educational ecosystem across the state.
He said the animal husbandry sector has increasingly become a pillar of the rural economy, but Assam still lags behind other states in fully realising its potential.
"To address this, the govt has partnered with the National Dairy Development Board to establish the North East Dairy and Foods Limited, which aims at producing, processing, and distributing 10 lakh litres of milk daily," he said.
He added that the College of Veterinary Science, in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board, is working to develop a new breed by crossbreeding Assam's indigenous Lakhimi cows with Gujarat's high-yielding Gir breed.
Alongside livestock development, the chief minister emphasised the state's renewed focus on poultry and duck farming, noting that 90% of Assam's daily egg demand is currently met through imports.
He also highlighted a national campaign to promote biogas and bio-CNG production, adding that efforts are underway to enable dairy enterprises to generate these from cattle dung — an initiative poised to offer farmers a valuable supplementary income stream.

With a marked rise in both religious and nature-based tourism, Sarma underscored the sector's economic significance and called for greater innovation to enhance its appeal. Citing Dima Hasao's natural splendour, he said that the region has the potential to emerge as one of the country's premier tourist destinations. To this end, he added, govt has sanctioned Rs 4,000 crores for road and infrastructure development.

Hyderabad: To mark senior party leader and the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's birthday, TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy on Thursday extended Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to a cancer patient, Hari Krishna Prasad, of Thallapalli village in Sangareddy constituency. Prasad has been suffering from cancer for some time now. As he comes from a poor family, Reddy provided aid for his full treatment. As Prasad was earning just Rs 13,000 per month and could not afford a costly battle against cancer, the Congress leader came forward to support Prasad, who works as an employee in a Gurukula school. He has a wife, Shailaja, a daughter studying in LKG, and a son in first grade. Prasad was diagnosed with cancer three months ago. His family has already spent lakhs on treatment. With no money left for further medical expenses, the family was left helpless. Reddy came to know about Prasad's situation through his followers. Moved by the plight, Reddy volunteered to bear the complete cost of the treatment. He handed over Rs 10 lakh assistance to the patient on Thursday. Reddy reassured Prasad and his family of his support and encouraged them to stay strong. He also promised to facilitate help through the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to cover the treatment expenses incurred so far. Prasad's family expressed heartfelt gratitude for Reddy's support.

Govt keen on promoting farm mechanisation
Nellore: Scarcity agriculture labourers when the farm operations are picking up is giving impetus to farm mechanisation in the district. Shortage of labourers, apparently due to majority of them taking up works under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) is forcing more farmers to adopt farm machinery. According to sources, around five lakh farmers in the district have taken up paddy cultivation in about five lakh acres during the monsoon season. Famers observe that thousands of labourers migrated to other States as house construction workers, coupled with introduction of NREGS, lack of laborers has become a huge problem as majority of them are preferring to take up works under the job scheme than working in the fields. To overcome this problem, the State government is proposed to sanction nine varieties of instruments like rotators, cultivators, mould board ploughs, seed-cum-fertiliser drills mini tractors, inter cultivators, plant protectors etc. These instruments would be provided under cultivation budget, Rastriya Vikas Yojana, at 70 percent subsidy. Apart from this, 50 percent subsidy would be provided by the Central government while 20 per cent will be provided by the State government. As part of this initiative, district Collector O Anand has distributed 142 types of various farm instruments worth Rs 6.8 crore under farm mechanisation scheme at a programme at Acharya NG Ranga Agriculture University and Agriculture Research Station (ARS) in Muthukuru Road in the city on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Collector Anand has said the aim of the government in encouraging farm mechanisation is to ease the farmers from the burden of labour and securing better profits with less investments. District Agriculture Officer P Satyavani has said under these schemes farmers should farm groups to purchase heavy instruments like paddy translators, harvesters, power weeders, brush cutters etc as the government is keen on providing farm instruments at very low cost offering subsidies in a big way.
