Metallica's Hit Single Reaches A New All-Time Peak, Decades After Its Release

Metallica reached incredible heights decades ago when the band released "Enter Sandman." While the track was a hard rock smash at the time, nobody could have predicted how big or how long-lasting it would prove to be. The tune is still charting to this day, decades later, and is currently rising across a number of Billboard rankings in the U.S. – and around the world.
The song even manages to climb to a new peak on a roster that wouldn't even be introduced until decades after Metallica first released one of its biggest singles.
"Enter Sandman" finally reached the Billboard Global 200 for the first time just last week. The tally opened at No. 182 on the chart company's ranking of the most consumed songs worldwide. The list, which was introduced in 2020, blends both sales and streaming data to paint a picture of what humanity is listening to. This frame, the tune steps up three spaces to No. 179, which now stands as its loftiest placement yet.
Metallica has only scored a pair of hits on the Billboard Global 200. In July 2022, "Master of Puppets" debuted and then went on to reach its all-time high of No. 20. It still stands not only as the group's highest-rising win, but also its longest-charting, as it has racked up four times as many stays on the global ranking as "Enter Sandman" has thus far.
Looking at the U.S.-based charts, the Metallica smash climbs on two rankings focused solely on pure purchases. The track nearly returns to No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, as it vaults from No. 5 to No. 2. At the same time, it narrowly misses re-entering the top 10 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, landing at No. 11, up from No. 13.
The cut is also a winner on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, as "Enter Sandman" holds steady at No. 3 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, its all-time best showing.

Amateur equestrian Grace Gibbon and her horse, The Granite Way, secured their spot at the prestigious event after winning at the SEIB Search for a Star qualifier at Pickering Grange in Leicestershire. Advertisement The pair claimed first place in the Working Horse class, judged by Michaela Bowling and Samantha DeCaprio, earning them a place at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in Birmingham. Ms Gibbon said: "This is the only HOYS qualifier we have done together. "My mum and I work full-time but we both were off today so we decided to give it a go. "My mum and I share Fern, as we call The Granite Way at home, and we all aim to go out and have fun and anything else is a bonus." The Horse of the Year Show will take place at the NEC in Birmingham in early October. The Granite Way, affectionately known as Fern, came to the family through a friend. Advertisement Ms Gibbon said: "Fern came from a family friend Sarah Gould, he is brilliant—my mum takes him to West Wales Riding Club every week too. "I did Search for a Star when I was 12 back in 2009 with my Show Hunter Pony, Small Land Screen Play, and we took 4th place. "Having read the rules recently I realised I could now come back to give it another go." After a decade-long break from riding while studying and working, Ms Gibbon returned to the sport with her mother. She currently works as a chartered surveyor. The SEIB Search for a Star series has been running since 1996, giving amateur riders the chance to compete at top-level events like HOYS. Advertisement Nicolina MacKenzie, organiser of the SEIB Search for a Star, said: "Search for a Star is all about the journey and learning and improving over time. "Our team of judges and stewards are all invested in providing support and encouragement to help competitors and their horses and ponies perform to the best level they can." The series includes a range of classes for different types of show horses, with qualifiers held across the country. Winners earn a place in the championships at HOYS and at Your Horse Live. SEIB is well known for its specialist equestrian insurance, offering cover for horses, riders, horseboxes, trailers, and equestrian businesses.

Denis Villeneuve: Director of next James Bond film announced - and says he's a 'diehard 007 fan'

The director of the next James Bond film has been announced. Denis Villeneuve - a four-time Academy Award nominee who earned critical acclaim for the Dune Franchise and Blade Runner 2049 - said the role is a "massive responsibility". The Canadian filmmaker described himself as a "diehard" fan since childhood, adding that it is a "huge honour" to come on board. "Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr No with Sean Connery," Villeneuve said. Reassuring fans, the director continued: "To me, he's sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come." His appointment comes as the British spy franchise experiences a major overhaul, with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson handing over creative control to Amazon MGM Studios. The Broccoli family have long been the force behind the Bond films, and now co-own the intellectual property. Two recently appointed producers - Spider-Man's Amy Pascal and Harry Potter's David Heyman - said securing a director and developing a screenplay were top priorities before deciding who would succeed Daniel Craig in the role. Read more entertainment news: The head of Amazon MGM Studios, Mike Hopkins, described Villeneuve as a "cinematic master whose filmography speaks for itself". He added: "Denis has delivered compelling worlds, dynamic visuals, complex characters, and - most importantly - the immersive storytelling that global audiences yearn to experience in theatres. "James Bond is in the hands of one of today's greatest filmmakers and we cannot wait to get started on 007's next adventure."
