Man charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in Wallace Rd crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Tulare man is facing multiple felony charges in connection with an alleged drunken driving crash east of Delano that killed a passenger in his car.
Fidel Habana Vargas, 35, pleaded not guilty on Friday at the Delano courthouse to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two DUI-related counts, according to court records. He's being held without bail and his next hearing is set for May 19.

He has no other cases listed against him in Kern County.
On the afternoon of May 7, Vargas' Toyota Camry was heading south on Wallace Road and blew through a stop sign at Cecil Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol. It hit a box truck traveling east on Cecil Avenue.
The box truck did not have a stop sign, officers said.
Oliver Campuzano Villalva, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's officials. Villalva, of Tulare, was seated in the front passenger seat of the Toyota.

One dead, dog seriously injured in San Francisco crash
(KRON) — A man is dead and a dog was seriously injured from a two-car crash that happened on a Highway 101 offramp in San Francisco Saturday. The crash occurred around 11:44 a.m., when a white Dodge Charger exited the southbound side of Highway 101 near Paul Avenue at a high rate of speed, the California Highway Patrol told KRON4. The Charger hit a concrete wall and continued into a car stopped at the offramp stop sign. Foster City crews responded to brush fire, roads closed Firefighters with the San Francisco Fire Department responded to the scene and extracted the man from the Charger. Firefighters performed CPR but were unable to revive the man and he was pronounced dead at 11:55 a.m. The injured dog was given to San Francisco Animal Control. 1 dead, 3 hospitalized in head-on car crash in Napa
(KRON) – A head-on car crash killed one man and left three people hospitalized, according to the California Highway Patrol in Napa. Around 4:38 p.m. on Friday, CHP was alerted to a two-vehicle collision involving a 2024 Toyota Venza and a 2011 Lexus RX450 on California Highway 121, north of CA Highway 37 near the Sonoma Raceway. According to CHP, multiple witnesses observed a solo male driver of the Toyota traveling southbound on Highway 121, and a female driver of the Lexus with two minor passengers driving northbound. The Toyota crossed over the double-yellow lines and crashed into the Lexus in a head-on collision, CHP said. The driver of the Toyota was a man who was pronounced dead at a Napa hospital at 5:36 p.m. on Friday. The mother was transported to a Napa hospital for major injuries. The children were transported by helicopters to the Oakland Children's Hospital for major injuries. Man killed, dog severely injured in S.F. rollover crash
A driver was killed in a car crash Saturday morning after he lost control of his vehicle while exiting Highway 101 in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood, and his dog was severely injured. The crash was reported just before noon at Mansell Street and San Bruno Avenue, according to San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Mariano Elias. First responders found the driver, a man in his 30s, dead at the scene and an injured dog in the rolled-over vehicle, a white Dodge Challenger. Investigators believe the driver was southbound on Highway 101 when he tried to exit via Paul Avenue and lost control, Elias said. The California Highway Patrol temporarily closed the exit, which has since reopened. San Francisco Animal Care and Control transported the dog for medical care, but its status was not immediately available Saturday afternoon.
