BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Tulare man is facing multiple felony charges in connection with an alleged drunken driving crash east of Delano that killed a passenger in his car. Fidel Habana Vargas, 35, pleaded not guilty on Friday at the Delano courthouse to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two DUI-related counts, according to court records. He's being held without bail and his next hearing is set for May 19. On the afternoon of May 7, Vargas' Toyota Camry was heading south on Wallace Road and blew through a stop sign at Cecil Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol. It hit a box truck traveling east on Cecil Avenue. The box truck did not have a stop sign, officers said. Oliver Campuzano Villalva, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner's officials. Villalva, of Tulare, was seated in the front passenger seat of the Toyota. Shenandoah man headed to court on multiple charges

All charges were held for court for a Shenandoah man accused of driving a stolen car filled with drugs earlier this month. Michael Rush, 38, of Shenandoah, waived his right to a preliminary hearing which had been scheduled for Thursday morning in Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker's office. The case will proceed to the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas. Rush remains in prison even after Kilker reduced his bail to 10% of $10,000. On Feb. 9, Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli, Frackville, arraigned Rush on $100,000 straight cash bail. He is charged with felony receiving stolen property and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and DUI-Unsafe driving; and numerous summary offenses, according to reports. On Feb. 9, Rush was driving a car west on Centre Street in the borough when an officer saw him veer out of his lane of traffic, police said. The officer pulled him over near the Blaschak Coal Company, according to reports. Rush, who was reported to have glassy, bloodshot eyes and incoherent speech, told police he didn't have a valid license. Upon investigation, police determined Rush's license was suspended for DUI-related infractions. The officer detected the smell of marijuana, and when questioned, Rush admitted he had used marijuana that day, according to reports. A green leafy substance, which he said belonged to him, was visible inside the vehicle, according to police. Rush refused police requests for a vehicle search. He was unable to provide information on the vehicle, which police said was reported stolen. After a field sobriety test, police arrested Rush on suspicion of of DUI.

Suspect arrested in Galt DUI hit-and-run collision

Police in Galt on Saturday arrested a suspect in a hit-and-run DUI collision involving a motorcyclist, according to authorities. In a Facebook post, the Galt Police Department provided details about the collision and arrest. Authorities received a report Saturday from a concerned citizen who witnessed an SUV hitting a moving motorcycle near W. Stockton Blvd. and Twin Cities Rd. The person provided Galt police dispatch with updates as to where the suspect vehicle was headed. Officers contacted the male suspect at a shopping center about three miles south of the collision on the 1000 block of C St. Police said the suspect was unable to remember where he struck the motorcyclist due to his high level of intoxication. Police said in addition to having two prior DUI convictions, the suspect was on DUI court probation and his license was suspended for prior DUI. According to authorities, the suspect was at twice the legal limit of BAC of .16%. However, it is illegal for a driver on DUI court probation to have a BAC higher than .01%. The suspect was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony charges of DUI, felony hit-and-run, and other DUI-related misdemeanor charges. "This incident could've had a devastating outcome but we are incredibly relieved to share the news of the motorcyclist only having minor injuries after being hit by a Ford SUV," the post read. Galt police also thanked the witness who promptly reported the collision and provided pertinent information leading to the suspect's arrest.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A trial date for Arturo Munoz, charged with murder in a crash on Planz Road that killed two people, won't be known until later this month at the earliest. Court records show Munoz's second arraignment was postponed Wednesday to Feb. 19. He remains in custody without bail. GET bus holding unmet transit needs hearing Feb. 18 in downtown Bakersfield Munoz, 26, faces two counts of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and multiple DUI-related charges. Hortencia Garcia De Haro, 30, died at the scene on the night of Feb. 9, 2024, when the Chevy Malibu she drove was broadsided by Munoz's Chevy Tahoe on Planz Road between Hughes Lane and South H Street, according to court documents. Vanessa Lasarit Madrigal, a passenger in the Malibu, died days later. A third passenger was injured. NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — State police say a Norwich man is facing DUI-related charges after allegedly driving over 130 mph while under the influence earlier this month. Logan Mirmozaffari, 28, of Norwich was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs and reckless driving. Man charged with OUI after allegedly driving the wrong way on I-395 in Norwich His charges stem from Jan. 16, when a trooper was doing proactive speed enforcement near Exit 11 on I-395 southbound around 12:48 a.m. The trooper reported seeing a Kia sedan traveling 'at an extremely high rate of speed' and clocked it going over 130 mph. The driver subsequently pulled over for the trooper and explained he was driving fast so he could get home to see his cat. The trooper reported seeing multiple signs of impairment, including the odor of alcohol, glossy eyes, and slurred speech. He also failed to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Testing to standard.
