Gauff beat Aryna Sabalenka in the women's singles final on Saturday, though she needed all three sets to defeat the World No. 1, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4. Meanwhile, Alcaraz took down Jannik Sinner in a thrilling Sunday finale that went to five sets (4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6) and lasted five hours and 29 minutes — making it the longest French Open final ever.
Following their wins, the French Open announced on Monday that the 2025 iteration of the Grand Slam tournament made history. Apparently, a total of 685,000 people came to watch the competition in Paris, setting a new attendance record at Roland-Garros.
"Record numbers on and off the court," the French Open Instagram account posted.
"Roland-Garros 2025 sets new attendance highs to headline our Stat of the Day by @infosys."
Sure enough, fans were ecstatic about the news, with many heaping praise on the tournament, as well as on Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz for their performances throughout.

"What a tournament these two brought omg I'm obsessed," a commenter wrote, referring to the singles champions. Another one said, "COCOLITOS EFFECT."
"Yes, this sport deserves such numbers. Next year we will set a new record. Tennis is the best sport," a fan added.
Another viewer shared, "One of the best tournaments ever. Congrats to @cocogauff and @carlitosalcarazz."
"What a tournament you delivered this year! The best tournament and the best @rolandgarros ever. An absolute perfection from the beginning to the end," a supporter remarked.

Throughout the tournament, several fans raised concerns about the empty seats at Stade Roland Garros. Clearly, though, attendance is not an issue for the organizers given the latest turnout.

US men's soccer team hears boos after ugly loss to Switzerland

It was an American horror story of epic proportions for the U.S. Men's National Team on Tuesday night in their Gold Cup send-off match, as the club was booed off the field in Nashville, Tenn., during their 4-0 loss to Switzerland. The Americans didn't field their best lineup, but the ugly showing right before a major international tournament had U.S. soccer fans upset as the club walked off the field at halftime down by four goals and then again when the final whistle blew at the end of the match. The displeasure was audible on the TNT broadcast of the friendly match, and by the end, with large swaths of the 30,000-seat capacity Geodis Park visibly empty, it was apparent how upset U.S. soccer fans were. The loss was the fourth straight for the USMNT and put them on their longest losing streak since 2007. And to make matters worse, the four goals conceded in the first half were the most they've given up in more than 40 years. Switzerland's captain Granit Xhaka (10) brings the ball up field during his team's 4-0 blowout win over the U.S. men's soccer national team on June 10, 2025. AFP via Getty Images 'The first half was not good enough by any of our standards,' center back Walker Zimmerman told TNT Sports following the match. 'That's the disappointing thing, is we talked a lot about how we could compete, how we can believe in each other, how we can keep pushing. Take pride and we just fell short on all those aspects in the first half.' He added: 'It's disappointing, but at the same time, we know that we have a tournament ahead of us where these games are going to be coming quick and fast and our only option is to build on those.' The loss was another knock against the American squad that is facing plenty of challenges going into the Gold Cup tournament, and is a year away from the start of the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in North America. The USMNT has gone 5-5 since new head coach Mauricio Pochettino took over in September of last year, and he'll face plenty of questions if the United States doesn't come together during the Gold Cup.

Urban Meyer Sends Blunt Message to Lincoln Riley

Urban Meyer Sends Blunt Message to Lincoln Riley originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The USC Trojans have had just one double-digit-win season since 2018. Having gone a disappointing 7-6 during his cast's first season in the Big Ten, Lincoln Riley is under pressure to do better this time around. Advertisement Former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer turned the heat up on Riley during a conversation with Colin Cowherd on Tuesday. "I guess the way I've always looked at USC is I equate them to Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and Florida," Meyer said. "I've always looked at USC as one of the top five jobs in America. I've got a lot of respect for Lincoln Riley, and I promised myself I would never call for jobs — because I'm not gonna do that. However, when seven (or) eight wins is acceptable at USC, that's when I don't know. I don't agree with that. Southern California Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley.© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images "I think you take a five-hour net and drop it on USC and you see the best players in the country. ... They have the No. 1 recruiting class in the country right now. Shouldn't they have that every year? I mean, USC is USC." Advertisement According to 247Sports, Riley and the Trojans have earned 28 commitments in the Class of 2026, including five-stars Keenyi Pope and Mark Bowman. Meyer wants to see results before that crop of players arrives in Los Angeles. "I think they're gonna have a great year and I think we're not gonna have to (have) this conversation," Meyer said. "But, go 8-5 at Ohio State and see what happens." Liberty Reacts to Coco Gauff's Appearance at Chicago Sky Game

Liberty Reacts to Coco Gauff's Appearance at Chicago Sky Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Coco Gauff turned heads courtside Tuesday night as the tennis star made a surprise appearance at the New York Liberty's home game against the Chicago Sky. Advertisement The Liberty, still undefeated this WNBA season, had another reason to celebrate and they made it clear on Instagram, calling Gauff and team mascot Ellie the 'LINK UP OF THE YEAR!!!' Fresh off her historic win at the French Open, where she became the first American woman to win since Serena Williams in 2015, the 21-year-old tennis champion brought her star power courtside at Barclays Center. She was joined by her brother Cameron and Vanessa Bryant, widow of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, as the Liberty cruised to an 85-66 victory over the Sky. In photos from the game, Gauff was all smiles, flashing a peace sign. She wore a blue jacket, ripped black jeans and New Balance sneakers. Around her neck hung an infinity chain and her hair was styled in a sleek single braid. Advertisement Gauff's court appearance came just days after her win in Paris, but that didn't stop her from engaging with fans and waving to the crowd during a timeout. Even the WNBA's official X account couldn't hold back. Professional tennis player Coco Gauff (l) and journalist Arielle Chambers (r) at the Chicago Sky vs. New York Liberty Cruz-Imagn Images '2x Grand Slam champion – Coco Gauff is courtside in New York,' the WNBA wrote. As the Liberty rolled to a 9-0 record and Coco Gauff soaked in the action with a smile it was clear: this was more than just a game, it was a celebration of how far women's sports have come.
