Dubai Municipality and IACAD Sign Agreement to Enhance Religious Facilities and Preserve Heritage Mosques

Hi Dubai2 days ago
Dubai Municipality has signed a strategic agreement with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) to upgrade religious infrastructure, preserve heritage mosques, enhance Eid prayer grounds, and improve funeral and cemetery services across the emirate.
The partnership aims to unify design and construction standards for mosques, ensuring cultural and architectural heritage is preserved. Dubai Municipality will restore and maintain heritage mosques, while IACAD will oversee operations, including staffing, religious programmes, and daily upkeep.
Both entities will streamline mosque construction processes, simplify procedures, and integrate IACAD's engineering and planning standards into the Dubai Building Code. Developers will be encouraged to establish temporary prayer spaces for workers, and donors will be invited to support mosque construction using advanced 3D printing technology.
Funeral and cemetery services will also be upgraded. Dubai Municipality will improve mortuary washing facilities and provide logistical support, while IACAD will manage all Shariah-related aspects, from appointing staff for washing and shrouding to licensing mortuary washers and ensuring compliance with religious guidelines.
His Excellency Marwan Ahmad Bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the agreement strengthens efforts to deliver high-quality services while safeguarding historic mosques and prayer sites.
His Excellency Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director General of IACAD, highlighted the goal of creating spaces that reflect Islamic values, preserve heritage, and serve all segments of society.
The agreement also includes enhancements to Eid prayer grounds to meet urban and demographic needs. Dubai Municipality will undertake beautification works and develop upgraded facilities, while IACAD will manage operations and ensure readiness.
By integrating modern construction technologies with heritage preservation, the partnership is set to deliver sustainable, high-quality religious facilities that support Dubai's cultural identity and enhance community life.
