FRU crash: Post-mortems reveal victims died from multiple injuries, police form special inquiry panel
IPOH, May 16 — Post-mortem examinations on the nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who died in the Teluk Intan crash Tuesday confirmed that all victims succumbed to multiple severe injuries sustained in the road collision.
As reported by Sinar Harian, Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the autopsies, conducted at Teluk Intan Hospital, found that the injuries were a direct result of the impact from the crash.
'The hospital that conducted the post-mortems found the cause of death to be multiple injuries due to a road traffic collision,' he told the Malay daily.
Noor Hisam added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with a comprehensive approach involving several agencies to determine the exact cause of the accident.
This includes cooperation with the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), the Road Transport Department (JPJ), and the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), particularly to assist with technical aspects of the investigation.
'PDRM will also establish a special investigation committee or Court of Enquiry.
'The formation of this committee is in line with PDRM's standard operating procedures in the event of an accident involving loss of life or government assets,' he was quoted as saying.
He added that police will also record statements from all individuals present at the scene, including FRU personnel who survived the crash.
Nine FRU personnel were killed and nine others injured in the 8.50am crash on Tuesday, when their truck collided with a lorry carrying stones on Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan, as they were returning to their base in Sungai Senam.
In addition, nine other personnel sustained various injuries and were hospitalised.

PETALING JAYA : A staggering 81% of vape-related poisoning cases handled by Universiti Sains Malaysia's poison centre involved products branded as 'magic mushroom' vapes, most of which were used by teenagers and young adults. The National Poison Centre (PRN) said it had seen a sharp rise in such cases since 2022, with many users experiencing seizures, hallucinations, vomiting, and behavioural changes after just one or two puffs. 'These are not harmless vapes. Most samples that we tested did not even contain real psilocybin, but synthetic drugs that can cause serious harm or death,' the centre's pharmacist Fadhli Razali said in a statement. He said between 2020 and 2024, the centre recorded 76 calls involving suspected illicit vape exposure. In 2022 alone, 65% of cases involved such vapes (17 cases), followed by 79% in 2023 (27 cases) and 68% so far this year (26 cases). PRN said the problem had increased among young people, with 41% of cases involving teens aged 15 to 19, and 53% involving those in their early 20s. 'These vapes are easily manipulated to include dangerous substances. Without strict control, it becomes an open door to drug abuse,' he said. Fadhli also warned that the synthetic cannabinoids found in these vapes could trigger violent or erratic behaviour, causing harm to users and those around them. He said these products, often sold online and marketed as trendy or exotic, were now considered a public health threat by PRN. 'We urge all state governments to act urgently and uniformly in banning vape sales, and the federal government must begin enforcing its laws immediately,' he said. He said PRN fully supported the current move by state governments to outlaw vape products and called for a nationwide ban to protect youths from a 'hidden but dangerous drug epidemic'.

Suspected foreign national found dead at Bangsar construction site; identity yet to be confirmed
KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — The body of a man, suspected to be a foreign national, was discovered at a construction site in Bangsar this afternoon. Brickfields district police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood told Bernama that the identity of the man has not been confirmed, and investigations are ongoing. 'It has not been established whether the body belongs to the British national who was recently reported missing,' he said when contacted by the news agency. 'Investigations are still underway, and the fire and rescue personnel are currently working to retrieve the body,' he added.
