KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 16): Police are investigating a TikTok account suspected of posting inaccurate and unverified content about the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir, which has caused concern in the community.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the investigation is being conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
'It involves the offence of improper use of network facilities and services, as well as content that has the potential to incite hatred against any party and cause public anxiety or fear,' he said.
'The spread of unverified content could affect the efficiency and smooth conduct of the police investigation,' he said in a statement today.
Kumar also urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information, warning that it can cause confusion within the community.
Zara Qairina, 13, was confirmed dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, on July 17, after being found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha, in Papar, at about 4 am on July 16. – Bernama investigation lead police TikTok Zara Qairina Mahathir

Chinese national faces charges over attack on immigration officer at KLIA

SEPANG: A Chinese woman who was detained in connection with injuring an immigration officer at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last Wednesday will be charged in the Sessions Court here tomorrow. KLIA deputy district police chief Superintendent Albany Hamzah said statements from five individuals, including the counter officer involved, had been recorded in the case. "The Chinese woman will be charged in court tomorrow," he told BuletinTV3, today. On the woman's entry record into Malaysia, Albany said the matter was being investigated by the Immigration Department. The incident, which occurred at about 7.40pm at the Departure Hall of KLIA Terminal 1, involved four Chinese nationals — two adults and two children — undergoing immigration clearance. The woman was detained for acting aggressively and injuring an Immigration counter officer during clearance, allegedly because she was worried about missing her flight. She is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant, Section 332 for causing hurt to a public servant and Section 353 for using criminal force against a public servant.
