Queen Elizabeth II's first cousin Lady Marina Windsor announces surprise engagement to boyfriend of two years Nico Macauley
Lady Marina Windsor has announced her engagement to her boyfriend of two years, Nico Macauley.
The first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, 32, took to Instagram on Sunday to share the happy news through a series of snaps with her now-fiancé.
Lady Marina beamed beside Nico, 32, who is the great-grandson of William Berry, 1st Viscount Camrose.
She showed off her new silver engagement ring, which features a small, smooth square onyx gemstone at its centre, with detailing on either side.
Lady Marina proudly displayed the band in another snap of her at a dimly lit restaurant where she looked elegant in a white dress.
The philanthropic executive and her beau celebrated their engagement with a glass of champagne.
Lady Marina cut a casual figure in a yellow dress and leaned into her fiancé, who wore a navy jumper, as the pair toasted to their wedding.
"Very happy!" the third cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry wrote of becoming the future Mrs Macauley in the caption.
While royal family members congratulated the soon-to-be husband and wife, others were taken aback by their seemingly sudden engagement.
Lady Marina's younger sister, Lady Amelia Windsor, 29, expressed her joy, writing: "Yippeeee!"
Her aunt, Lady Helen Taylor, who is the daughter of Prince Edward and Katharine, Duchess of Kent, said she was the "happiest auntie".
"Happiest auntie in the whole world - love u so much...the best best news," she wrote.
Lady Marina is seldom seen in public with Nico and was recently spotted at a charity event for Elephant Family, a not-for-profit dedicated to protecting the Asian elephant from extinction, in London without him.
The third cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry attended the star-studded charity bash alongside King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Beatrice, actor Ed Westwick and his wife, actress Amy Jackson, as well as Brazilian footballer Ronaldo Nazario and his wife, model Celina Locks.
Nevertheless, Nico routinely makes an appearance in loved snaps of the couple on Lady Marina's Instagram.
Last week, they were photographed embracing while sitting on a stone wall in Connemara, western Ireland, with two pints beside them.
In 2008, Lady Marina was 25th in line to the British throne when she was removed from the line of succession.
The news, which made headlines, came after the then 16-year-old was confirmed into the Roman Catholic Church.
According to the Act of Settlement 1701, this disqualified her.
In 2015, the succession to the Crown Act was changed to allow Catholics to marry into the royal family without losing their place in the line, though Lady Marina's position was not restored.

Danny Boyle reveals biggest regret about Olympics opening ceremony
Danny Boyle has one big regret about the way he handed the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony. The 28 Days Later director was put in charge of the spectacular event in the British capital and it included references to UK culture including nods to music, fashion, movies and the NHS (National Health Service), but Danny regrets failing to include a segment dedicated to the BBC to recognise the national broadcaster's work over the last 100 years. He told The Sunday Times newspaper: "Well, there was a lot of advice and warnings we ignored, but the one that we listened to that I regret deeply [meant] that we didn't feature the BBC enough. Because I look now at news values and who to trust, and think, 'F*** me - we should look after that'. "It doesn't matter whether you approve of it or not. It is just the idea of this national broadcaster with some kind of values you can rely on. "These technology internationalists will have you believe that they don't matter, that there's something global much more important. "But they do matter. They define us. But we were told we couldn't feature them by the IOC [International Olympic Committee]." Danny's opening ceremony included a memorable sketch featuring the late Queen Elizabeth teaming up with James Bond star Daniel Craig which seemingly ended with the monarch parachuting into the London Stadium. Lord Sebastian Coe, who served as London Organising Committee for the Olympics, previously said of the stunt: "There isn't a day that goes by without somebody somewhere in the world asking me about this. A whole heap of people still believe that she genuinely jumped from the helicopter. "It was an extraordinary moment because Danny Boyle, who was our director, it was the only day during the seven-year period of preparation of the games that I felt the globe wobble. "He came in and said: 'I've done some market research and it shows that the Queen and James Bond, in that order, are the global iconic figures' and I was fine until that moment when he said: 'Wouldn't it be great if we could get them to jump out of a helicopter?' "And in fairness, it was Danny who got it across the line. There are lots of things that are said about it but it was actually Danny who persuaded her." Lord Coe went on to explain he initially showed potential ideas for the skit to Anne, Princess Royal - the daughter of Queen Elizabeth - and was only asked one question when she saw the plans. He told BBC News "My first role was to take the Princess Royal through the creative thoughts and I remember these sort of hammed up drawings and the only question I got was: 'What kind of helicopter?'"

BRIT Awards moving to Manchester in 2026 after almost 50 years in London
The BRIT Awards with Mastercard is moving from London to Manchester after almost 50 years. The prestigious music ceremony has been held in the British capital since 1977 and first took place at the Wembley Conference Centre, before relocating to various prestigious venues over the years, including the Royal Albert Hall and Hammersmith Apollo. In recent years it has been hosted at The O2 arena. However, on February 28, 2026, the BRITs will be staged at the Co-op Live in Manchester. Manchester has taken over as MediaCityUK in recent years with corporations like the BBC moving their operations from London to reduce costs and better represent audiences across the UK. The move to Manchester also excited fans of local legends Oasis, especially after frontman Liam Gallagher jokingly teased a big announcement at 6.30am on Monday (09.06.25) with many X users suggesting it could be related to the BRITs heading to the city. The BRIT Awards 2026 will take place on Saturday February 28, and be broadcast exclusively on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player. The bash will remain at Co-op Live until at least 2027. The move has been spearheaded by Sony Music UK. Jason Iley MBE, Chairman and CEO, Sony Music UK and Ireland said: 'This is a very exciting time for The BRIT Awards. Moving to Manchester, the home of some of the most iconic and defining artists of our lifetime, will invigorate the show and build on the BRITs legacy of celebrating and reinvesting in world-class music. Hosting the show in Manchester, with its vibrant cultural history, perfectly captures the spirit and energy of the BRIT Awards. I can't wait to see the show at the amazing state-of-the art Co-op Live venue.' Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester commented: "For The BRIT Awards to move out of London is a massive coup for Greater Manchester. After 48 years, it is great that this prestigious global event is about to arrive in the UK capital of music and culture. Greater Manchester has an unparalleled music heritage known around the world, and this summer will play host to some of the biggest gigs on the planet. That was only made possible by our strong commitment to new talent and giving emerging artists the opportunities to make their name. We thank our friends at the BPI for choosing Manchester and we will pull out all the stops to show they made the right decision. Celebrating the BRIT Awards right here in the home of 24 hour party people is the next chapter in its story and you can be sure that we will help them do it in style.' The 2025 ceremony featured performances from the past year's biggest stars, including Charli xcx and Sabrina Carpenter.
