Eain Yow exits British Open, Sivasangari last Malaysian standing

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 12 Ng Eain Yow suffered a shock second-round exit at the British Open in Birmingham on Sunday.
The Asian champion, who received a first-round bye, went down 13-11, 11-5, 11-7 to world No. 14 Victor Crouin of France in 58 minutes.
It was Eain Yow's first loss to the Frenchman in four meetings and a disappointing step back after reaching the quarter-finals last year.
Malaysia's campaign in the women's category also took a hit, with Rachel Arnold, Aifa Azman and Ainaa Amani all bowing out in the first round.
S. Sivasangari is now the sole Malaysian left in the tournament.
She begins her campaign in the second round later today.
Despite the early exit, national coach Ajaz Azmat saw positives in Eain Yow's performance.
"Eain Yow fought really hard, but it just wasn't his day," said Ajaz.
"The first game was very close, and he had chances to take it. But Crouin was just too good, especially in the crucial stages."
Eain Yow will now shift focus to defending his title at the Asian Championships in Kuching, Sarawak, on June 17-21.
