Leopard Kills Woman Sleeping On Open Roof Of Her House In UP

A woman died in a leopard attack in a village under Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, officials said on Sunday.
On Saturday night, Zahira (48) was sleeping on the open roof of her house in Ayodhyapurva village in Sujauli forest range when she was attacked by a leopard, Divisional Forest Officer B Shivshankar told PTI.
The village is located in the Sujauli forest range that falls under the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary.
"The woman fell from the roof onto the field. Her two children were also sleeping with her. They struggled to save their mother from the leopard and made noise, due to which the leopard ran away towards the fields," the DFO said, adding that the woman died on the spot.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and an immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 has been given to the family of the woman, he said.

Gujarat HC dismisses plea seeking injunction order to Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust from dispossessing family
Gujarat High Court (HC) on Tuesday dismissed a petition moved by a family living on a property within the Gandhi Ashram precincts, seeking injunction order to Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust (MGSAMT) from dispossessing them from two suit properties measuring a total of 6,000 square yards on which they claimed tenancy rights. The court of Justice Sanjeev Thaker passed the order. The MGSAMT is implementing the Rs 1,200 crore Sabarmati Ashram redevelopment project. The petition was moved by one Mohanbhai Rathod and his family members, who challenged the orders of a Small Causes Court and an appellate court rejecting their application to issue an injunction order for two properties over which they claimed tenancy rights. Originally, the plaintiff had moved a house rent petition (HRP) suit before the Small Causes Court with reference to three properties — A, B and C — situated within Sabarmati Ashram precincts. Property B is a residential accommodation and properties A and C are plots of land. They had also sought injunction orders against the concerned trust of the ashram in 2014 while claiming tenancy rights. The Small Causes Court had in 2019 granted injunction for Property B, while rejecting the application for properties A and C. This order was challenged before the appellate court which upheld the order. Following this, the plaintiff moved a revision application before the HC, which rejected the revision application while upholding the order of the appellate court. The plaintiff, among other things, had argued that the properties in dispute were handed over to the grandfather of the plaintiff by the trustee of the trust concerned somewhere in 1930. They also argued that the defendant trust accepted the rent for the all three properties since 1977. The defendant trust opposed the petition while arguing that there is nothing in the evidence, including rent receipts produced by the plaintiff, to suggest that the properties referred to in it are with respect to the property mentioned as Properties A and C.

Sacked driver & friend held for elderly couple's murder in Rajendranagar
Hyderabad: Five days after an elderly couple was murdered in their home in Rajendranagar, their former driver and his friend were arrested on Tuesday for the crime. The accused, ex-driver Mohammed Shakeel and his friend Mohammed Mujeebuddin, were caught based on CCTV footage, DCP (Rajendranagar) Ch Srinivas said. Police said the motive was unclear, but suspected that the driver may have bore a grudge as he had been jobless since being sacked. Cops also did not rule out robbery, but the accused claimed to have taken only Rs 600 from the man's pocket. The bodies of the couple – Shaik Abdullah Abdul Hamid (77), a retired assistant general manager of SBI, and his wife Ummatur Rafai Rizwana (70), a retired lecturer – were found by the watchman soon after two persons, one in burqa and another in a mask, left the duplex flat on June 5. The couple lived on the fifth and sixth floors of the building, while the remaining portions have been rented out. They have four children, two residing in the US and two in London, police said. Police found that Shakeel had worked for two years as a driver for Abdullah's family. About eight months ago, Shakeel was sacked by Abdullah as he was unhappy with his work. Cops said that the person in the burqa was Shakeel and Mujeebuddin was the one with the mask. On June 5, the duo had gained entry by telling the watchman they had come for physiotherapy. They locked the door and then allegedly attacked the couple who were found with several stab wounds.

11L MD drugs seized at lab run by MSc (Chem) grad
Mumbai: A mobile chat between a cab driver and a 43-year-old man from Palghar, who holds a postgraduate MSc (Chemistry) degree, prompted the MIDC police to raid the latter's Boisar laboratory, leading to seizure of MD drugs valued at Rs 11.2 lakh on Tuesday. MIDC police raided the laboratory where Vijay Katke, who was employed at a chemical factory, manufactured drugs during weekends. Katke had planned to commence mass-scale production after resigning from his job. The first arrest took place on June 7, when MIDC sub-inspector Mahendra Kangal and his team arrested Farhan Khan after he attempted to flee seeing police bandobast. "On suspicion, we took Khan to the police station. We searched his car and seized MD drugs worth Rs 2.8 lakh," said an MIDC police officer. Using information from Khan, DCP Zone X Datta Nalawade supervised a team of ACP Shashikant Bhosale, SI Rajiv Chavan, inspector Mahesh Gurav, sub-inspectors Kangal and Anand Kashid, who tracked down cab driver Pratik Jadhav in Palghar. Interrogation of Jadhav led the police to Katke. — V Narayan
