BMW India has opened pre-bookings for its upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe. The carmaker is taking bookings for the coupe through its official dealerships as well as through the official online website. Slated to be launched on July 17, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be manufactured in Chennai.
The newly refreshed BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe gets a new and more sporty design and an updated engine. The interior of the luxury coupe has also been changed to match the German manufacturer's new design philosophy. The 2 Series Gran Coupe will be up against its rivals, such as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, Audi A3 Sedan, and the Toyota Camry. BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: Design
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with a significantly updated design. The nose section of the car looks more compact and sporty than before. It gets a flat nose. Also, there are peeled-back LED headlamps and bonnet lines that converge. Moving to the side profile, the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with bigger wheel arches. The rear gets angled LED taillights. The boot storage capacity is now 430 litres.

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe features a revamped cabin that incorporates the design philosophy from the carmaker's latest style guide. The interior of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe resembles that of other sedans from the brand. It gets a new curved display with BMW's latest software. This display combines both the touchscreen infotainment system and the fully digital instrument cluster. Other features include ambient lighting bars that react to temperature adjustments made inside the cabin, blue during cooler temperatures and red for a warmer cabin. The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is built on a front-wheel-drive platform. The OEM claims the chassis is more rigid and has stiffened front springs, and multi-valve dampers, enhancing ride comfort. Under the bonnet, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that comes with mild-hybrid technology. This engine is capable of churning out 154 bhp peak power and 230 Nm of maximum torque. These figures are marginally down from the previous car. However, BMW has made the car more responsive with the addition of the electric motor, which adds an extra 20 bhp and also helps the 2 Series Gran Coupe to reach 0-100 kmph in 8.6 seconds.

With new energy, JSW Group gets ready to disrupt EV market
New Delhi: Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Group has set up a dedicated automotive vertical-JSW Motors. This will be an umbrella platform under which the group will launch passenger cars focussed on new energy vehicles at an investment of up to $3 billion over the next five years with launches set to begin in the second half of FY26. It will be separate from the group's joint venture with China's SAIC, JSW MG Motor India. Elaborating on the expansion strategy, Nayak said JSW Motors is aiming to disrupt the domestic electric vehicle (EV) market by manufacturing "world class automotive products in the country" by leveraging the best technologies from across the globe, including Italy, Germany, South Korea and China, and combining that with India's own strengths in robust supply chain and digital integration. "We are looking at rapidly scaling up our in-house automotive technology, and not remain dependent on any external entity. Our integrated approach allows us to combine global excellence with local relevance, ensuring high performance, affordability and sustainability," Nayak said, adding, "Our first New Energy Vehicle (NEV) under the JSW badge will hit the roads in the second half of FY2026." "We will be combining the craftsmanship and aesthetics of Italian designers and the German precision in manufacturing and engineering with the advanced welding technologies from South Korea and China's expertise in electric propulsion systems, battery innovation and New Energy Vehicle (NEV) technologies with that of the Indian IT sector's deep capabilities in software and digital integration," said Nayak. He declined to share details of the investments the JSW Group has scheduled for its automotive venture. However, industry sources said the group has lined up an investment to the tune of $2-3 billion in its automotive business over the next five years. Similar to its strategy in the steel sector, JSW intends to "energize the auto ecosystem-spurring suppliers and competitors to rise with us" to accelerate India's shift to clean mobility and reduce its dependence on oil, said Nayak, who is also executive vice president and head, corporate strategy, JSW Group. "Our aim is to push New Energy Vehicle penetration to 50%, offering affordable, world-class electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles," he said. Nayak said China is at the forefront of EV and hybrid vehicle innovation and has become an integral part of the global automotive supply chain. Hamilton to start Belgian GP from pit lane after power unit change
Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton will start the Belgian Grand Prix from the pit lane after putting in a new power unit to his car following a horrible Qualifying on Saturday. Hamilton, who won the race last year in Mercedes, failed to get through the first phase qualifying and was scheduled to start 16th on Sunday after his best lap was deleted for exceeding track limits. "An updated grid for the Belgian GP @LewisHamilton will start from the pit lane with a new power unit," the Ferrari posted on X. The Briton had already faced a tough outing in Saturday's sprint race, starting 18th after a spin at the penultimate corner during qualifying and managing only a 15th-place finish. Hamilton, a five-time winner at Spa, is just one victory shy of matching Michael Schumacher's record at the iconic Belgian circuit. He claimed last year's win after former teammate George Russell was disqualified from first place due to his car being underweight. "We made some changes, the car didn't feel terrible," Hamilton told Sky Sports after the qualifying. "And then from my side, another mistake... I've got to apologise to my team because it's just unacceptable to be out in both Q1s (first qualifying for the sprint and main race). "It's a very, very poor performance for myself." Hamilton added that starting from the pitlane, allowing mechanics to work on the car before the race, would probably not improve matters. "I don't think there's really much we can do," he said. "So I just try and start from where I am and see where I can get from there. I don't agree, no, but I'm out," he added. Lando Norris will start the Belgian Grand Prix from pole position after going fastest of all in Qualifying, the McLaren driver beating team mate Oscar Piastri and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc with an impressive lap around Spa-Francorchamps. After setting the pace in Q1, Norris was bettered by Piastri in the Q2 segment – but the Briton was quick to lay a marker in Q3, grabbing provisional pole during the first runs with an effort of 1m 40.562s. That time proved unbeatable as the final laps played out, with Piastri ending up in second place just 0.085s away from the other papaya car. Leclerc, meanwhile, improved to put himself into P3 ahead of the Red Bull of Max Verstappen in fourth.

F1 Belgian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton to start from pit lane
Lewis Hamilton will start Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix from the pit lane with a new power unit after qualifying only 16th, Ferrari said. The seven-time Formula One world champion won at Spa with Mercedes last year but has had a nightmare so far, qualifying 18th in Friday's sprint qualifying and finishing 15th in Saturday's 100km race. Hamilton has won five times in Belgium and has been on the podium in all but two of the races he has finished at the longest circuit on the calendar. The Briton, who moved to the Italian team in January and has yet to stand on the podium for it, apologised to Ferrari on Saturday for a performance he said was unacceptable. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli will also start from the pit lane after those teams also changed engine components. Sunday's race is set to be wet. The Formula Two feature race started behind the safety car, while the Formula Three race was cancelled entirely due to the conditions.
