'Chilling' horror film with 100% RT rating heading to streaming service

Metro06-05-2025

A 'chilling' horror film with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating will soon be available to stream at home.
Good Boy, directed by Ben Leonard, created a storm when it screened at this year's SXSW Festival, earning a flurry of glowing reviews.
This is not to be confused with Viljar Bøe's shocking psychological thriller of the same name, or the K-drama heading to Amazon Prime Video this month.
Leonard's ghostly flick is a haunted house film with a twist – it is told entirely from the perspective of a dog, finally answering the question as to why man's best friend sometimes barks at seemingly empty spaces.
Indy is the focus of the tale, a lovable pooch who relocates to the home of owner Todd's (Shane Jensen) grandfather (Larry Fessenden) after Todd becomes sick.
The house is said to be haunted, something the duo soon come to realise is far from a terrifying story to tell around a campfire as they begin experiencing increasingly sinister paranormal phenomena.
A synopsis reads: 'Do you ever wonder why your dog stares at empty corners, barks for no reason, or refuses to go into the basement?
'Good Boy is the story of a dog who sees everything that goes bump in the night. No talking pets, just terrifying scares.'
Shudder has acquired the rights to Good Boy, meaning it will be available to stream through the service via Amazon Prime Video.
A release date has not yet been announced.
Speaking to Deadline, Amy Beecroft, head of Verve Ventures, who negotiated the deal, said: 'We immediately recognised the immense potential of Leonberg's debut and are thrilled to strike this deal with Shudder.'
Emily Gotto, SVP of Acquisitions and Production for Shudder, said in a statement: 'Ben Leonberg's debut is a singular experience in perspective-driven horror. Told entirely through the eyes of Indy, a devoted dog whose terror and determination to save his human become our own, the film delivers a haunting and emotional experience that introduces a surprising standout performance from Indy and a strikingly assured first feature from Leonberg.'
Film critics have dubbed Good Boy 'one of the best horror films so far this year', leading to its 100% rating thus far.
IndieWire wrote: 'What could have easily been a cheap gimmick instead provides the foundation for one of the best horror films so far this year.' More Trending
Bloody Disgusting said: 'Leonberg crafts a thoughtful, unnerving, and heartrending portrayal of how utterly terrifying it can be for a dog when his whole world is upended and he's unable to understand why.'
The Hollywood Reporter heaped praise on the canine actor playing Indy, writing: 'What comes across most strongly, and gives the film its emotional power, is Indy's unfailing loyalty to his beloved owner and his willingness do practically anything to protect him.'
Meanwhile, Dread Central warned: 'Don't let the gimmick fool you; Good Boy is primed to be one of the most chilling movies of 2025.'
Good Boy will be available to stream on Shudder via Amazon Prime Video

Love Island 2025 LIVE: Two bombshells arrive in villa as fans fear Alima will be booted out TONIGHT

RIGHT. Listen up, Love Island fanatics! Hold onto your sun hats, because two ridiculously fit new lads are about to strut into the villa, and things are about to get even hotter. We're talking semi-pro footballer Shea Mannings and fitness influencer Remell Mullins – get ready to swoon. These bombshells will be gracing our screens in the next few days, so prepare for some serious drama. But it's not all sunshine and cocktails, is it? Fans are getting a bit twitchy about Alima's future on the show. Word on the street – or should we say, on X – is that her partner Blu Chegini might be tempted to make a play for Shakira Khan, leaving Alima vulnerable. Could she be the first one packing her bags? One fan tweeted: "Alima might be in danger, there's actually no one in here for her.. The system has failed her.' Another viewer chimed in: 'Sneaky feeling Alima might be the girl that's been dumped,' while a third despairingly posted: 'Producers are actually going to hell if Alima gets dumped, Blu is going for Shakira and that will mean Alima is vulnerable and dumped, producers never get anything right.' Ouch. Make sure you're glued to your telly tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX for all the tears, tantrums, and traumas, as Maya Jama brings the heat. And don't forget to stick with our live blog below for all the latest gossip and the best reactions as they happen… It's going to be a belter! You can follow our live blog, below, for all the latest updates and best fan reaction ... Today, 08:42 By Allan Glen Watch: 'Too glamorous for a 9-5' One of the new contestants has already managed to annoy viewers. Shakira Khan, 22, entered the Love Island villa first alongside Meg Moore, 25, and the pair wasted no time getting to know each other. Shakira set about telling Megan that she was 'too glamorous for a 9-5' and must do something more exciting for a job. One fan wrote: "Watching shakira slag off 9-5 jobs as if she isn't an entertainer." Another posted: "Why does shakira have so much beef with 9-5ers" By Allan Glen Not a match It quickly became apparent to Love Island fans that one couple were definitely not a match last night. Meg and Dejon have been coupled up but they really didn't seem to be vibing with each other. On first impressions, it seemed that Dejon was NOT Meg's type on paper and visa versa. This wasn't helped by Meg saying she felt '50/50' about the personal trainer… But of course, by the time Maya Jama entered the villa again at the end of last night's show, they were all smiles and insisting they are the next Romeo and Juliet.

Love Island: Ben is slammed for saying Shakira 'needed to be humbled' as her place in the show is put at risk - before he FORGETS bombshell Toni's name

Love Island's Ben Holbrough was slammed by viewers during Tuesday night's episode for saying that Shakira Khan 'needed to be humbled'. The taxi driver, 23, made the comments to bombshell Toni after she stole him from Shakira on the opening episode. As Toni and Ben then sat down for one of their first chats Ben then quipped to her: 'You humbled Shakira, she needed that I think' - in reference to her now being at risk of being dumped. Toni quickly hit back: 'I don't want to talk about her I want to get to know you!' Shakira is now single and must be selected by one boy in tonight's recoupling or she will be going home. Later in the chat with Toni Ben then had a slip of the tongue as he accidentally called her Tori instead - much to her disgust. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Viewers were quick to react to his humbling comment as they penned on X: '2 episodes into uk love island and i HATE BEN. WDYM SHAKIRA NEEDED TO BE HUMBLED. WEIRDO', 'Ben saying Shakira needed to be humbled and he's known her for three hours, he's a weirdo he needs to leave already #loveisland', 'I like how Toni said she doesnt want to talk about Shakira after Ben made that comment about her being humbled. What was that comment #LoveIsland', 'Cause why does shakira need to be humbled', ''That humbled shakira' Yh that man is a sociopath #LoveIsland.', 'Why's this box head obsessed with humbling woman? Wtf does he mean by shakira got humbled #LoveIsland', 'Ben saying Shakira needs to be humbled..... I knew this guy was gonna get on my nerves. Love how Toni said I don't want to talk about her. Idiot #LoveIsland', 'Ben saying Shakira needed to be humbled and he's known her for three hours, he's a weirdo he needs to leave already #loveisland.' Shakira sparked a feud and was warned to 'keep it PG' as she flirted with the boys in scenes on Tuesday. Viewers were quick to react to his humbling comment as they penned on X: '2 episodes into uk love island and i HATE BEN' The construction project manager, 26, is currently vulnerable from being dumped from the Island following the entrance of bombshell Toni. And it would seem the other girls are feeling the pressure to keep hold of their men as Shakira kick starts her day of grafting. As Dejon checks in with Shakira, Meg watches on with worry, and tells the group: 'I don't have my man, Dejon's gone - that's it!' Meanwhile, Shakira is heard saying to Dejon: 'That was a lot, it was intense, I was trying not to shake like a leaf. I've got a busy day ahead of me by the looks of it!' Later, Dejon and Meg head to the Terrace, with Dejon keen to reassure Meg. He tells her: 'You haven't got anything to worry about, you're my favourite, one thing about me is I'll always be honest with my feelings.' The next morning Toni offers Shakira a pep talk and explains: 'Just so you know, it wasn't personal, I'm rooting for else are you interested in?' 'Everyone!' Shakira replied. Toni continues: 'I'm telling you, I believe in you, you're not leaving.' Shakira added: 'I know the boys are attracted to me on a surface level, but it's about whether we click.' Toni advises: 'I think today we'll find out, don't be afraid to talk to people…I'm telling you, nothing's locked in place - I'm only safe today.' Shakira wastes no time and asks Harry for a chat on the terrace, with her teasing: 'Haza you little minx!' Harry replies: 'It's day two come on let's keep it PG.' Putting the effort in to find a new connection, Shakira then pulls Conor for a chat and he tells her: 'You surprised me, you came in with massive energy, but I feel like you're not like that, you're chill and smart.' Shakira admits: 'I love the Irish accent, it's sexy! I've never dated an Irish guy.' She also catches up with Blu telling him: 'I think it's good cause it gives everyone a kick up the bum…I think you've got a good vibe…you're very calming and I don't have to put on a bravado.' Nicole Kidman's Nine Perfect Strangers co-star opens up on 'intimate' scenes

Mark Strong, who stars in the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers, has opened up about his character David and his connection with Nicole Kidman's Masha. Nine Perfect Strangers star Mark Strong has dished some details about his experience working alongside Nicole Kidman in the hit series. Returning for a gripping second season with Nicole leading the cast, the suspenseful drama sees Mark playing the role of David, a wealthy dad on a transformative retreat with his son. ‌ The renowned Kingsman actor, 61, hinted Nicole helped get him onboard with the show, and teased their "intimate" storyline. ‌ While chatting on The One Show this evening (June 10), he hinted at a blossoming intimacy between their characters, quipping: "I'm sure she had to work out whether she wanted to get intimate with me. "The storyline that we have, without giving too much away, becomes quite intimate," he confessed. Host Alex Jones responded with "That's a huge compliment," to which Mark agreed. Earlier in tonight's episode of The One Show on BBC, Mark delved into his character, stating: "It was nice to play a billionaire, I've got to that age where I'm the guy who has everything or knows everything so that's a good place to be." He hinted at a significant plot development involving his and Nicole's characters, remarking: "There is a connection between his character and Nicole's character that comes out through the series." ‌ Expressing his enthusiasm for the series, he added: "Drama TV needs plot, get nine people in a room, with their own problems, give them a load of psychedelics, and then see what happens, that's essentially what she did." Jokingly concluding, he said: "Not my idea of a wellness retreat I have to say!" ‌ The latest instalment of the psychological drama is teased in the show's plot summary: "Nine new strangers connected in ways they could never imagine are invited by mysterious guru Masha Dmitrichenko to join a transformational wellness retreat in the Austrian Alps. "Over the course of a week, she takes them to the brink. Will they make it? Will she? "Masha is willing to try anything in the interest of healing everyone involved, including herself." The star-studded cast also includes Henry Golding, Lena Olin, Annie Murphy, Christine Baranski, Lucas Englander, King Princess, Murray Bartlett, Dolly de Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and Aras Aydin. The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer. Nine Perfect Strangers is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video with new episodes dropping on Thursday.
