CBSE Allows Basic Math Students To Study Standard Math In Class 11
The decision, announced in an official notification dated May 27, 2025, marks a shift from the earlier rule where only students who had taken Mathematics Standard (041) in Class 10 were permitted to continue with the subject at the senior secondary level. Students with Basic Math were previously limited to choosing Applied Mathematics in Class 11.
According to the circular, heads of schools must assess and ensure that students who wish to switch from Basic Math to core Mathematics in Class 11 have the necessary aptitude and academic preparedness to handle the subject's rigour. The Board has instructed schools to communicate the change to parents and students so they can make informed subject choices while filling the List of Candidates (LOC). Once subjects are finalised in LOC, no modifications will be permitted.
This relaxation is a continuation of temporary exemptions introduced during the pandemic years, when students who opted for Basic Math were allowed to take Mathematics (041) in higher classes. However, the CBSE has clarified that the current decision will remain valid only until a new scheme of studies is introduced under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE). Until then, other provisions of the earlier circular issued on January 10, 2019, will continue to apply.
The dual-level Mathematics system was introduced by CBSE in the 2019-20 academic session to offer students options based on their interest and future academic plans. While Mathematics (Standard) caters to those wish to pursue the subject in higher studies, Mathematics (Basic) is designed for those who do not wish to continue with it beyond Class 10.

CBSE begins preparing students for board exams
Ranchi: Schools have begun to orient students for next year's board exams on the basis of sample papers and marking schemes which has been recently released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for the academic session 2025–26. According to the official CBSE circular, there has been no change in the exam pattern or marking scheme from the previous academic year (2024–25). This year, the CBSE released the sample papers earlier than usual, providing students more time to familiarise themselves with the structure of the upcoming exams. Alongside the sample papers, the marking schemes were also made available on the board's official website: Ravi Shekhar, academic coordinator at Oxford Public School, said, "These resources aim not only to aid exam preparation but also to strengthen classroom learning and conceptual understanding. CBSE has encouraged schools to integrate the sample papers into regular teaching practices." "CBSE's sample papers guide students preparing for competitive exams. It fully incorporates NCERT content. Students should start early and understand these papers thoroughly to perform better in boards," said Jaya Chauhan, Principal of Delhi Public School. An important change highlighted in CBSE's new approach is the decision to conduct Class X board examinations twice a year starting 2026. The main examination will be held in Feb–March, while a second attempt, termed the improvement exam, will be conducted in May. Following this, concerns emerged among students regarding possible changes in marking patterns, which the board has now addressed by maintaining consistency in the marking scheme. Principal of Gurunanak Higher Secondary School, captain Sumit Kaur, said, "To begin with, teachers need to thoroughly understand the sample papers and adjust their teaching methods accordingly to help students practice efficiently. When students become familiar with the exam pattern early on, it becomes easier for them to grasp the concepts and perform well in the exams." Aarav Kumar, a class X student at Dani Public School, Khunti, said, "The early release of CBSE sample papers has really helped us understand the exam pattern and focus on important topics. 170 Kannada teachers from CBSE schools across state honoured
Mysuru: In a proud celebration of Kannada language education, 170 Kannada teachers from CBSE schools across Karnataka were felicitated with the prestigious Pariksha Spoorthi Guru Shreshta Award–2025. The awards, instituted by the Pariksha Spoorthi Foundation in collaboration with the Mysuru Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat, were presented at an event hosted at the JSS Women's College on Sunday. The award recognises Kannada teachers whose students secured full marks (100/100) in the Kannada paper in the CBSE Class 10 exams of 2024. The initiative aims not only to celebrate teaching excellence, but also to ensure Kannada retains a strong presence within the national curriculum and continues to be a source of linguistic pride for future generations. Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa, who presented the awards, commended the teachers for their unwavering dedication in promoting Kannada in non-state board institutions.
