Gita's teachings sole path to peace amid intolerance, says Karnataka Guv
Udupi (Karnataka), Jul 25 (PTI) Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday said in a world increasingly plagued by violence and intolerance, the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita offer the sole path towards achieving lasting peace.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Sri Krishna Janmashtami Mandalotsava at Rajangana in Udupi organised by Paryaya Sri Puthige Matha today.
The 48-day festival, steeped in spiritual and cultural tradition, will take place from August 1 to September 17.
'The life of Lord Krishna offers profound lessons in Dharma Yoga, Karma Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. His teachings are timeless and especially relevant in the present era of unrest," Gehlot said.
The Governor referred to Lord Krishna's guidance to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita, stating that Nishkama Karma—performing one's duty without attachment—is a value the youth must adopt.
'Youngsters should embrace bhakti, kartavya and develop a fearless yet sensible mindset," he said.
He praised the Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi for being a beacon of Indian cultural and spiritual heritage.
Gehlot also lauded Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Sri Puthige Matha for spreading Sanatana Dharma globally through its branches.
He said festivals like the Mandalotsava not only celebrate religious traditions but also promote social harmony and instil cultural pride.
'Lord Krishna incarnated to uphold dharma and defeat adharma. His life continues to guide us towards righteousness, compassion and courage," the Governor said. PTI COR AMP ROH

The WWII stalwart believes it is never too late for him to fulfil his wish to go through the transition, and he is planning for the ceremony next year at the Pentagon outside Washington. 'I mentioned that I would like to be bar mitzvahed at 103, and he's the rabbi of the Pentagon, so that's my next bucket list. I am going to be bar mitzvahed in the Pentagon," he added. As per Terens' account of WWII contribution, the veteran official played an influential role, helping repair planes returning from France so that they could rejoin the battle. Twelve days after D-Day, Terens went to France and brought the Germans and American prisoners of war back to England. In June 2024, the war veteran was honoured by the French government at the 80th anniversary of the country's liberation from the cruel Nazis under their inhumane leader Adolf Hitler. Apart from his war credentials and reward, Terens also hit the news for marrying 97-year-old Jeanne Swerlin last year. 'I thought my wedding in Normandy last year was the highlight of my life," he said, adding, 'Number one of all the moments of my life. Andal Jayanti 2025: The auspicious day of Aadi Pooram, also called Andal Jayanti, honors Goddess Andal, who is believed to be a manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi. Andal Jayanti is celebrated during the Tamil month of Aadi and is observed under Pooram Nakshatra, one of the 27 Nakshatras. Andal Jayanti is being observed today, July 28, 2025, this year. After making another new garland for Shri Ranganatha, he offered it to the Lord, but it kept falling off his neck despite his repeated attempts. After he prayed to the Lord, Lord Ranganatha appeared before him and clarified that Andal is a manifestation of the Goddess Laxmi, and that he would only wear the garland if Andal would wear this . Goddess Andal wrote a great deal of music for Lord Ranganatha. Thiruppavai and Nachiyar Thirumozhi are two well-known pieces.
