Farmers seek cash incentive for cultivation
Speaking to reporters at Kollidam in Mayiladuthurai district, association general secretary P.R. Pandian pointed out that farmers in Puducherry were being given ₹15,000 a hectare as incentive by the government. The Telangana government was extending an incentive of ₹15,000 an acre, he said and called upon the State government to implement a similar scheme.
Mr. Pandian urged the government to build a regulator at Vellamanal at Kollidam to prevent sea water intrusion. 'We have been fighting for this for long,' he said.
Similarly, funds had not been released for the renovation of shutters in the delta region planned at an estimated cost of ₹18 crore, he said.
He insisted that the cooperative societies should not check for CIBIL scores of farmers while sanctioning crop loan.

Cauvery Delta farmers call for early procurement of kuruvai paddy
The Tamizhaga Cauvery Vivasayigal Sangam has called upon the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that procurement of 'kuruvai' paddy begins from September 1, instead of October 1, at the minimum support price announced for the 2025-26 season. In a resolution passed at its meeting of State and district-level principal office-bearers in Thanjavur on Tuesday, August 12, it was pointed out that the harvesting of 'kuruvai' crop began during the first week of September and a majority of the cropped area got harvested by the end of the month. Hence, it would be beneficial to farmers if the procurement season was advanced by a month, and the State government must issue a Government Order in this regard as early as possible. Expressing its displeasure over relinquishment of 'open storage' concept by Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, the Sangam, in another resolution, claimed that the paddy procured by the Corporation was exposed to the natural elements as the bags were stored on the direct procurement centre premises itself. This practice and other issues in the process of procurement caused hardships to farmers when they brought the produce for measuring at the DPCs. The State government must initiate steps for smooth and speedy procurement of paddy at the new price and ensure safe storage, it added. Other resolutions opposing the introduction of genetically modified paddy seeds in delta districts, initiation of steps for construction of a dam across Cauvery river at Rasimanal, as agreed in principle by the present Tamil Nadu government, and declaring the preliminary works taken up by the Karnataka government with respect to Mekedatu dam project as illegal were also passed at the meeting. Later, a demonstration urging the Tamil Nadu government to procure 'kuruvai' paddy at the new price from September 1 was organised by the Sangam on the Thanjavur District Collectorate campus.

DYFI urges Telangana govt to implement Rajiv Yuva Vikas scheme
Hyderabad: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has demanded that the State government implement the Rajiv Yuva Vikas Scheme (RYVS) without further delay. DYFI state president Kota Ramesh and state secretary Anganganti Venkatesh said on Sunday that the Congress government, after coming to power, has not only limited itself to applications but also has failed to implement its promises. Speaking at the DYFI State Committee meeting on Sunday, the two leaders noted that the state government had allocated Rs 6,000 crore to provide self-employment loans to unemployed youth through the RYVS. They said about 16,25,000 unemployed people in the state have applied for this scheme. However, the government postponed the announcement of RYVS beneficiaries on June 2, Telangana State Formation Day. They demanded that the government should not neglect or delay the scheme and should grant funds to all eligible beneficiaries through the RYVS. They warned that this scheme should be implemented for unemployed youth even if they do not have a CIBIL score, and that otherwise, the DYFI would organise agitations. They also demanded that all vacant posts in the state should be filled and that the state government should implement the job calendar it announced and fill the jobs by issuing notifications.

Crop loan circular withdrawn after AIADMK petition: Edappadi K Palaniswami
TIRUCHY: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami claimed it was after his party submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the state withdrew the circular mandating submission of CIBIL scores to avail crop loans. After submitting the memorandum to Modi, DMK was left with no choice but to withdraw the circular, said Palaniswami, who was on the way to Sivagangai district as part of his campaign. He said during his campaign in the delta districts, farmers had consistently raised the issue. Palaniswami said the state remained unresponsive despite his repeated appeals on behalf of the farmers. 'However, after the petition was submitted to the Prime Minister, the state government quickly issued a circular on July 28, stating the existing procedures for providing crop loans to farmers would continue unchanged. We are glad that the government has finally listened to the farmers' demand,' he said Answering to the question on which all parties are part of the NDA, he said currently both the AIADMK and the BJP are part of the alliance. There are other parties allied with the BJP as well and the full list of allies will be clear when election approaches.
