Uros Medic thinks comeback KO start of welterweight rankings push after UFC on ESPN 72

USA Today3 days ago
LAS VEGAS – Uros Medic met the media Saturday after his knockout over Gilbert Urbina at UFC on ESPN 72.
Medic (11-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) starched Urbina (7-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) just 63 seconds into the first round on the prelims at the UFC Apex. But the finish only came after Medic himself was knocked down just a few seconds into the fight and was in trouble.
Medic said he had to get woken up, which he's making a habit of, but now thinks his knockout win could be the start of something big at welterweight. Medic has been in the UFC For nearly five years, but has had just one two-fight winning streak and has alternated wins and losses his past five fights.
"That's a foolish thing of me. (I did it) my last fight, as well, (against Punahele Soriano). I need to be more alert in these first minutes," Medic told MMA Junkie at his post-fight news conference. "Most of my fights do end in the first minutes, or the first (round).
"But I really need to work on staying more alert in the initial touching period. Everybody's so sharp and so fast, and I tend to be loose. I'm relaxed. I don't think much about it – no thoughts in my head. Just blank. I should be a little more sharp. I'll work on that. I don't want it to happen. It's foolish of me at this level to make those kinds of mistakes."
Medic said he was nervous about the fight this week because of digestive issues he had before the fight, but now he hopes this latest win will start a push into the rankings at welterweight.

Last-minute injury shakes up UFC 319 fight card, no replacement sought

Well, this sucks. King Green suffered an injury during fight week and was forced to withdraw from his Diego Ferreira bout, which was expected to serve as the featured 'Prelims' contest in this weekend's UFC 319 lineup. The longtime MMA veteran (32-17-1, 1 NC) has dropped two straight and three of his last four, suffering first-round finishes in all three losses. As for the 40 year-old Ferreira, he fell to 19-6 after losing a decision to Grant Dawson in January. Patchy Mix draws KSW champion Jakub Wiklacz in second octagon appearance at UFC 320

Patchy Mix will get another stern test as he looks to notch his first UFC win. Mix (20-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) welcomes KSW bantamweight champion Jakub Wiklacz (16-3-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) to the octagon at UFC 320 on Oct. 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the promotion announced Thursday. Mix dropped a lackluster unanimous decision to streaking contender Mario Bautista in his promotional debut at UFC 316 in June. Prior to that, the former Bellator champion was on a seven-fight winning streak, including wins over Magomed Magomedov, Kyoji Horiguchi and Sergio Pettis. Wiklacz is unbeaten in his past seven fights. The 28-year-old retained his KSW bantamweight title three times during his time with the promotion, most recently submitting Sebastian Przybysz last June – going 4-1 against his fellow Polish fighter.
